    I have an issue where in winter there's water on the inside of window frame but not on the glass itself. Is it because of condensation? Thanks

  • @vtechead1
    @vtechead1 Год назад

    Just dry the glass and smear the affected area with washing up liquid. It will look foggy at first , but will clear once it dries onto the glass. No more condensation forming on the area that was treated.

    Hi Paddy, that’s very good advice on the inside of windows steaming up in winter!
    My windows only steam up bad on frosty nights, windows were made in 2001, when ya stand inside the window glass on a frosty night ya can feel the cold , frames are in good condition, would it be worth fitting new double glazed glass units?
    Thanks
    Dermot.

      If the frames are pvc there would be a case to replace the double glazing for "A" energy rated double glazing. If your frames are aluminium there would be no benefit in doing it. It'll be approx half the cost of new windows. But get some quotes from different companies.

    Hi, Paddy, very nicely composed video. Tell me have you ever fitted a Window Trickle Vent Airbox? I've recently been looking at fitting air vents to my three windows and I watched the video on how these are fitted, but after studying the video I thought why not just cut the rubber and leave the box out? I know you will not be able to turn the ventilation off but that might be a good thing as it's only a slight air flow. What are your thoughts on this idea? Regards. Paul

    • @PaddysDiy
      @PaddysDiy  2 года назад

      Hi Paul, best piece of advice i can give you is to try closing your window on the night vent setting. If you have pvc windows it allows you to close and lock your window in a partially open position. Only about 1/2 an inch. Either that or wedge your window so it leaves it partially open. See if you can live with it like that for a week or more. If it helps with the condensation and you don't mind the street noise etc. Then trickle vents would be a good idea. As for your suggestion about the seals. Just try grabbing hold of the seal and try pulling it out. A lot of the seals on windows are just pushed into a groove and held in by friction. If the seal doesn't come out when you pull it, it's probably co-extruded and made part of the window. If thats the case i wouldn't cut the seal. Last thing you want is to cause another issue that can't be fixed after. At least if the seal pulls out you can always put it back if it didn't work out for you. Only downside i can see to your suggestion is that you will have a very narrow gap with the seal removed, and this can cause a whistling or howling noise if the wind is strong. Hope that helps

    Hi Paddy, we get condensation on our windows over the winter months; oddly though, condensation doesn't form in the corners of the windows. Does this indicate there are air leaks in the corners? Thank you

    Hi paddy would u be doing a video on how to router out a single glazed window to receive a new d.g.u. I have been asked by some ppl if it can be done which I know it can but how to go about it is another thing. .Cheers on any advice.

    • @PaddysDiy
      @PaddysDiy  5 лет назад +2

      Hi David, don't have any plans at the minute but i'll keep it in mind. On wooden windows that are only rebated for single glazing, the easiest solution is to get a stepped double glazed unit made up. Done a few jobs like this over the years, especially on protected buildings. No messing around with a router. Nice neat job
      Never routed out a window in place, i would imagine you would need a special router as the plaster reveals of the walls would block most standard routers. I always steered clear of these jobs :)
      Most wooden windows I've came across would have a pretty wide rebate, wide enough to fit a narrow DG unit and a slimmer glazing bead. You can get the units filled with Krypton gas instead of Argon in these narrow units to give a U-Value comparable to a thicker DG unit.

      Window and Door Parts Ireland ah yes I heard a couple of old time fitters on about stepped units going into wooden windows .as for the krypton gas I never thought u could put it into a 4x6x4 d.g.u. or upwards .must keep this in mind.once again thanks for getting back to me.cheers :-)

    In the UK if you open a window between Nov-March you are letting more humidity into your house than out. I have triple glazing plus trickle vents and the still mist up inside and out. I'm running a dehumidifier all day every day. The perils of living in a mobile home, drinking tea all day I guess.
