whoever voted "thumbs down" on this video for this song was probably born way way after the 70's....I love this song, thank you for uploading.
My life long love of music was given to me by my uncle who used to take me with him cruising in the early 60's up and down Classen playing music and singing. when I grew older I moved away. One visit home he drove me back to the airport to leave and this came on the radio. As was his way he turned it up ands sang to me as the tears flowed. He passed not long ago. I cannot express how deeply this song affects me. I miss you Uncle Chris and I hope whenI die we cruise and sing again down Classen.XO
Yes, the Summer of 1979!!! This song was number one and I was test driving a car I only dreamed about. I cruised over to my girlfriends house to give her a ride; we took off the T-top and cruised down the highway. She said turn on the radio and this was the first song that car's radio played for us. It was magic and I still have the vette and girl.
Lucky you!
I was born in 73 and I can remember my mom listening to this song on her light up speakers in the living room. I would lay on my stomach on the shaggy rug and watch the multi colored lights from the speaker until I peacefully fell asleep
I'm 14 and my mum and I are sitting in the car singing this together. I love this music. It has meaning. It has feeling. It has emotion. Not to mention it sounds absolutely beautiful.
This is one of the most beautiful saddest songs....i'm lost for words to express the feelings it evokes within me.....awesome song....
There is just something about this song!! It gets me every time I hear it!!!
My mother loved this song and played it over and over. God rest her soul.😭😿
The 70's were such a special time for music.
I just slow danced with Angela to this song every chance I could, she was first love, she is in heaven but I still love her.
if you were a child of the 70s this song was part of your life
+yellward I Wish I had been. 70s looked awesome.
It was!
Loved the seventies.
No you don't!! Because if you were you would be 50+ years old and when you turn 50 everything starts to go downhill and your body falls apart and grey hair and wrinkles and everything hurts when you get out of bed in the morning. LOL!! But, yes, the music was epic!!!
But you could go to you tube and recapture all the wonderful memories of what ever time you grew up in. I am 75 born in 1941. Each decade has a special memory. So enjoy every stage of life.
This was my fathers favorite song. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
they dont play enough of this music anymore on the radio! The good old days I love this music!
Omg, rip my heart out 40+ yrs later! I had forgotten how much I love this song and once had the album but got destroyed in flood. Thanks for the memories! At 65, I was & still am a Hopeless Romantic, waiting for another chance to share my love in my last years.
It's never too late
L Bluebird hey big man. Lot of people looking for a gentleman type guy. She's out there ol buddy.
One of my all time favourite songs. I started loving this type of music when I was 18 and I have never stopped, 10 years on. Music that makes you cry, not because you are sad but because it is just awesome.
They don't make good music like this anymore (BeeGees, Earth, Wind and Fire, Commodores, KC & the sunshine band, Lobo and many, many more). I may be only in my 40's but love me some oldies easy listening music.
"Sad Eyes" is a song written and recorded by Robert John, and released in April 1979. It debuted May 19 on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching the top of the chart on October 6. The song was produced by George Tobin in Association With Mike Piccirillo.
"Sad Eyes" is one of just a few non-disco, or disco-influenced, songs to top the 1979 pop charts, although by the time it went to number one the anti-disco backlash had made it easier for other styles to reach the top.
joe r newsom it might not have been disco but it definitely did have that falsetto Bee Gees sound. In fact many people thought it was a Bee Gees record.
I was born in 2000 but my mother and father were born in the 70s so I listen to 60's 70's and 80's they r all good wish I was born in the 70s 😫
Brings back a FLOOD of memories, from a time that was better, when people respected each other, before all the evil in the world became so prevalent. Those times now seem like a dream...
I so agree. Seems like a million years away and Yet like only yesterday. Lots of memories for me too.
I was growing up in New York City I was 10 years old and a girl gave this to me for my birthday the song on a 38 special... Now I'm 50 and I still think about 40 years ago
Todays singers can't touch the singers from that erea
I had to get old to finally appreciate music like this. Very pleasant, yet sad song. I guess with a lifetime of experience's one finally understands life.
my favorite of all time. I'm a 70's child so I still melt when I listen to this song
what hurts the most was you never saw it coming..... till it was too late....
This is the definition of beautiful music! Listen closley cuz they dont make them like this anymore!
This song is so sad it makes me want to cry. Beautiful song.
Beautiful sad song....some of these one hit wonders are unforgettable..... this always makes me emotional.....
You're welcome...glad you enjoyed it.....I love it heaps! Renee Paul
I've always liked this song it is a sad one though. The nice thing about these videos with the words is you get to really see what they are singing, not what you think you heard Jacqui Crawford
I agree...like seeing the lyrics on screen... Bill Wilson
I love this song....reminds me of my teenage years and a broken relationship.
one of the most beautiful and sad songs ever made.
"You knew there'd come a day." Too many of those goodbye days for me to ever trust love again. I'll settle for just being content with someone. Still, I'll always be content to let the music take me back to when it was good. Thanks for the posting.
One the all time classics & a favorite of mine. Robert John's had such a unique pitch for Sad Eye's. You can really feel the lyrics and this guys remorse, it's beautifully haunting.
Oh the memories this one evokes. Great song.
Alice Lam brings skating rink on Friday night memories
Robbie Hawkins I used to go skating with friends in early 80s!
Read alot of comments and there was ABSOLUTELY no better music than late 50s, all 60s, most 70s and some 80s. And each year, generation & moment in those times were memories, choices, paths we were glad we took & some paths we regret, but it was our precious life!! I'm 65, & sooooo want to do ALL those years again, and live life to the max...travel, school, help more people, wait for the REAL love. My heart is duct taped together from being broken so many times in life. Not just by men, but family, friends, jobs, just life. Encourage the young to do what they love, not what others think they should do. Hug your kids alot today, read to them at night if u can, try not to yell, smile more, love more and listen to great music! Also LOVE "Lion Sleeps Tonight" by Robert John...God bless
Well said L!
You nailed it!!
It will be 38 years ago on 7/16/17 that my 3 year old brother was taken from my family by a car that hit him. My dad used to get drunk and listen to this song over and over again. I still miss him every day, and this song reminds me of him every time I hear it. I do still have my dad, and he has been alcohol free for the last 14 years. I miss you Craig Hill.
One of my favorite songs out of the thousands I adore.
This song takes me back to the 70s
I remember this song playing on the radio during the summer of 1979. It was on the charts then. I was still sad about, "Emergency!," folding. But I was, however, happy the stars of that show got opportunities to do other projects.
Can't deny what the heart feels
I heard this playing on a radio at the end of the summer, I was 14 and he was my first dirty thought. I married him, and I still remember how sad I felt walking away from him. Songs!
So sad and so beautiful. Makes me cry every time I hear it. So indicative of the 70's.
awesomely beautiful!!! love his song !!!
Classic song, timeless.
great song I grew up in 70s this one was my favorite
OMG My mom on her stereo in the 80'
s would play this song. Why now at my age these words have so much meaning.
# 1 in 1979-Fantastic song!
This beautifull song takes me way back! How can you compare modern music to this!
Excellent voice.
I loved this song as a teenager but didn't really know what it was about until now. Day'um it's about cheating!!!
had'nt heard this for about 40 years, then wonderful memories of the 70s came flooding back..wish i had a time machine, they dont press tracks like this any more unfortunately
What a great song! What a voice. Great stuff
i always get teary eyed and a huge lump in my throat!! it's 1 of greatest sad songs of all time here i go with the shiver of tears welling up in my eyes, i can never say goodbye to the love of my life, but she says i lost my love for her!!! i will love her all the more that i can possibly give her
excellent photos. Love this video and song. Thanks for sharing.
Damn I love these oldies
One of those unforgettable one hit wonders from the 70's. One hit wonders were a lot more common during that decade than they seem to be today.
Robert John also had a 1972 cover hit with The Tokens' 1961 #1 hit "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". His version hit #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Oh my...the fantastic wholesome memories this one brings back...to think of the evil that has infiltrated our lives since then...sad
Very True....
Ken Santiago Boy you sure can say that again
+Ken Santiago The memories are wholesome, but the lyric is about cheating......
There has always been evil. It's just more noticeable now in this age of instant information.
Beautiful song. Forgive us lord for our sins. All tears come from the holy spirit for we're part of Jesus his love.
i love this song! and its funny to see all the women on her who think its a love song but just incase you missed the point of it its about a guy who is cheating on his wife or girlfriend then telling his lover he has to leave her for his wife or girlfriend listen to the opening line
"looks like its over you knew i couldn't stay she's coming home today"
hence "sad eyes turn the other way"
Can't deny what the ❤ feels
I love the screaming back up at the end. _Heeeeeeey!_ 3:30
I so love this song for some reason. It's sad but it's so lovely
Swear to god...My ex had this down to the note when we broke up. “You knew I couldn’t stay, you knew it had to end, I’ll miss the good times, don’t wanna see you cry...”If people realize how it hurts when you’re using someone, but everyone gets used
born in 1969 i love this and so many even older...thank God for music. does anyone feel it and more no b.s. family love life music how else la lady true love true trust or throw it all away
LOVE THIS SONG EVEN THOUGH ITS SAD XXX
wow not heard this song for ages.what a voice so cool....I can't get enough of this song, I always liked it and always will, the 70's-80's was awesome years of good music and would go back in a split second to live some of those times...Crazy good. Insanely good. Ridiculously good..... Did I mention this is pretty good....>:()
Looked it up and said it was released in 1979. I sure thought closer to 77. Oh well, it was a good song. Not long out of army, Drive in movies, small town, hot summer nights in the woods. All the girls loved me. Well, not quite all. Lol. Good song and good times.
I grew up in the 70s an truly loved the music, i wouldnt trade those memories for nothing ♥
Oh, that guitar! ♥
Always the best slow-dance song at high school dances...brings back alot of great memories. :-)

70s music 🎶 what a beautiful time in music so many hits were put out in the 70s
Finaly!! I get to hear this song again!!! I have been looking for it for a very long time...I have not heard it since the 70's or when I was a kid. It reminds me of a favorite elementary school teacher...when I passed on to the next grade, I developed sad eyes beacause I was not going to be in her class anymore! :(
I'm 65 and realize why this old dancer slash musician still has it..its the music kiddies
Beautiful song, I love it!
Forever Sad Eyes, Love this song !!
A beautiful forgotten classic...
I was born in the 80s, 1989 to be exact, but 70s music is awesome! This makes me think about how the groupies and the rest must've felt when the 70s was coming to a close. Everybody had sad eyes.

On this day in 1979 {August 4th} Robert John performed "Sad Eyes" on the late Dick Clark's American Bandstand...
Three months earlier on May 19th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; and on October 6th it peaked at #1 {for 1 week} and spent over a half-year on the Top 100 chart {27 weeks}...
He first charted 21 years earlier in 1958, using the name Bobby Pedrick, Jr., he peaked at #74 with "White Bucks and Saddle Shoes"...
R.I.P. Mr. Clark...
