Lucky child, and what sweet whippets :) I hope they're doing splendid and are both healthy. I have a very old whippet and I'm planning to get a new puppy next year. I'm SUPER picky about the breeder I will get it from. When I got my first one, it was a pretty common thing to not do any health checks for whippets - I guess they were just considered so heathy, and they are when compared to many other breeds. I'm glad to see that policy has changed, here where I live at least. I hope there will be similar changes in other countries so that we might give these magnificent dogs the best possible start for their lives. My whippet suffers from spondylosis, it was diagnosed when she was 8, and until then there were zero problems with her. Whippets need their hearts and eyes checked but I wish more breeders would also get a vet to check the backs. I know that in most countries - even some really progressive ones where dog breeding is mostly really responsible - breeders aren't worried about whippets' health. But they should be. Just one look at how recless their breeding was a just a couple of decades ago, should tell us that there definitely might be problems with some of the today's whippet generations. We need smart choices in breeding and health checks on at least the dogs that are used for breeding.
Yes the baby thing was adorable but the first part, when mum came home, was making me miss my own whippet so much. They love their people/pack so much.
Funny how dogs and cats instinctively understand what a baby is, care for it, and guard it, especially female cats and dogs. Ours mothered our baby sons, fussed and worried about them, and stayed right by their side. They'd get nervous and try to help if the baby started crying.

I think they are spread all around the world, though they're not the most common in most places. And I think that's a good thing, it's never good for a dog breed to get popular, because when they do there are always scummy people to make profit off of the situation. I live in Northern Europe where whippets are semi popular, but still a rare sight. They're not well suited for our cold and snowy winters, but some good overalls and warm indoors will keep them comfy. I did some dog skiing with my whippet when she was still young and full of energy. She didn't quite get the hang of it but at times we were going fairly fast thanks to her.
Good thing they aren't dingoes. As any Australian can tell you, dingoes and babies do not go well together. Seriously though, congratulations, and good that the dogs seem to be getting along with the little one.
You have obviously never seen a greyhound, whippet, or Italian greyhound. The dogs look to be a healthy weight for the breed. It would help if you knew something about the topic before giving your ignorant opinion.
