I hadn't thought about it until you called the boat a "human invention" but in the myths, Poseidon and Athena were rivals, and one of her ways to make trouble for him was helping to inspire sailors to make improvements to boats to reduce their reliance on Poseidon.
I think there's an easy-to-miss demonstration of their skills between Kojiro and Musashi Miyamoto at their introductions. Miyamato, when slashing the sword technique scrolls, does the same to his son's shirt, showing that he's a bit away from being completely refined. Sasaki, in contrast, catches all the spilt milk and that's it; he doesn't accidentally hit anyone else with his larger than average sword, despite there being three other people in close proximity. This shows his mastery and control.
There’s a subtle kindness to Kojiro that becomes apparent retroactively. He loses to his foes but rather than show off his superiority after surpassing them he doesn’t fight them again- defeating them which would lead to publicly shaming them thus allowing them to maintain their integrity. He doesn’t truly has to really win until it’s against someone who truly doesn’t deserve that respect.
I never knew who Saske was before ROR but he won me over in his first chapter. Okita souji was revealed years ago and I still couldn’t name a single character trait he has and it makes me mad when I see him taking up screen time from a character I want to hear from. All I know is he is short swings a sword and his secret “heart technique” and disease aren’t interesting. He is the first human I am hoping dies
I dont’t hate Okita because he is a second Japanese swordsmen but because he is far less compelling than Sasake and I don’t care if the author had a previous manga about him, there is a reason ROR is a international success and no one knows the name of the Okita manga
I think it is interesting Sasaki only desired to win against an opponent that could teach him nothing. Poseidon's fighting style had no technique and was wholly uninteresting. In every other fight Sasaki took something from it. He could take nothing from this fight other than his first victory.
The problem with Tenkaichi is that the fights were too predictable at the beginning. First Fight - Musashi, the guy with an obvious "main character energy", is obviously going to win. That is predictable, especially since he is also very famous throughout the world in real life. Second Fight - Kotaro, who is the only female fighter in the series, and is also a coomer bait, is an obvious winner. It is obvious that the author won't kill her off during the first round. Third Fight - Yagyu Munenori vs William Adams. A Japanese swordsman vs a foreigner. I have read enough Kengan Ashura to know that the Japanese fighter will obviously win. And the entire fight is just a curbstomp too, what a disappointment. Fourth Fight - This is where the fights are becoming less predictable. It is still somewhat obvious that Hino would be the winner, since he is Oda Nobunaga's fighter, but it is less predictable than the previous fights. Fifth Fight - I like this round since this is the first time the author subverted the reader's expectation by making Kojiro lose. But, predictably, Kojiro survived the fight. I think the author should have learnt to write tournament stories from mangas like Kengan Ashura, since the fights from Kengan Ashura are less predictable. Sure, the strongest fighter (and the supposed final boss) would win the first round, but nobody could have expected that his opponent would actually give him trouble. On top of that, most of the fighters are actually decent and likable people, even the assassins, so it makes it harder for the readers to choose which fighter they want to root for.
@@AzureTank776 I have to mostly agree with this. Despite the author (or authors, can’t recall if it’s multiple) even said that a coin flip is what decides the winner after backstories are made, it really doesn’t seem like it. I’ve been able to guess every round so far as well started.
Okay but the buddha parallels is a nice catch. And that made me think of how sasaki's 'scanning' is similar to buddha's 'foresight' Excellent video as always
Thanks and yeah its not something you pick up on till a reread since you know at that point in the series we didn't even know what Buddha was all about and how enlightenment would be presented in the series
This has nothing to do with the video, but I HAD to post this. Someone in the comments just said, out loud, without any hint of irony, that Record of Ragnarok, a manga/anime about gods fighting humans, is better than Shakespeare! That's hilarious!
A Posideon that is fighting seriosuly from the jump isn't Posideon, its an OC with the same power set as him, the fact he doesn't try until its too late is a fundemental aspect of his character
You make quite a few sound statements in your videos, which shows good intelligence, but you still lack the insight into fundamental themes and symbols of the manga, due to your lack of general and academic knowledge. And despite my warning, you refer to the will again, multiple times. I know I promised to provide my own analysis and didn't deliver it, but that's because it takes a lot of time to write, and also because analysing Record of Ragnarok is not my main occupation. You will have to wait for a few more years until I finish my analysis as promised. Until then, I have no choice but to talk big, but have nothing to stand on. If you persist in acting in such a petulant way, I might reconsider sharing my knowledge with you. That is because all this talk about will makes you sound like a fascist, and I don't want this manga to be used for right-wing propaganda.
if someone is wrong why not show your ideas with them to show why they are wrong? second, why is having will considered fascist or a right wing propaganda? everyone has a will no matter who they are a will to live, a will to create, a will to help and so on
@@creeperchumsworth1219 agreed , I don't get why this guy thinks he's fascist and selling propaganda when he's making an character analysis on his interpretation of how Sasaki was written

Agreed
An excellent point, and definitely one I missed, there's so many cool bits of symbolism like that

Kojiro sasaki is like the embodiment of a phrase i once came up with. My phrase was "failure is an underrated teacher that nobody wants to learn from"
Dude put that on a shrit.
@@khalidsirad6555 what does "shrit" mean? Wait, did you try to say "shirt"?

Kojiro was a fascinating character. A warrior who looks to the future than focusing on the here and now.
And thank you again for putting me in the grigori Rasputin video

Interesting analysis, I think you can enjoy a manga like Tenkaichi with its Interesting character choices to the death
Tenkaichi is an odd series to me.

A warrior who never fails, never learns.
