I am not saying that. But when you said that the movie should have been (much more) French, it reminded me of an old grievance I have with what my country did to Inglorious Basterds. "Oh a trilingual movie? Let's dub over that with one of the languages highlighted in the movie." Never had I seen such bullshit.
Inglorious Basterds deserves a lot of credit for not only having characters speak the right languages but actually casting actors who can speak in the right accents. It's so annoying to be taken out of an otherwise good and serious movie by characters speaking a language I know like an alien attempting to produce human-like sounds with its mouth-like organ. It's a shame that the practice of dubbing over everything ruined this great work!
Napoleon conquered Egypt, or whatever. Your commentary on the ego-stroking thingy crystalized and gave words to an aversion I have had to the present tone of media. Many thanks!
If the characters are white but don’t speak English Hollywood immediately goes for British accents which is such a baffling choice. The more I notice it the more annoying it gets.
@@cmkosemeni mean there is a unique example of rome total war 1 with american accents, british accent could be the result of british english being the old world and european version of all the english dialects. so if an old world character speaks in english, it is always in british accent.
For me the reason I didn't care about anything was because they do pretty much nothing to characterize Napoleon? They introduce him and he's some boring rando and then you blink and he is suddenly staging a coup and I'm just going "Wait WHY tho??" Esp cuz he was such a weirdo in real life!
I felt like this movie was kind of like.. fast food, in a way. In the sense that it played fast & loose with the history and the choppy editing made it feel so nothing… Like a fast food meal, pulled out quickly without quality control, just a basic sloppy indulgence. Was quite a shame; I hoped this movie might highlight more of the historical and sociopolitical elements, yet instead was more focused on it’s weird caricature of Napoleon without allowing us to understand him. It keeps pulling back and forth between the political and romantic plotlines and yet barely shows any actual interest in either. It felt like there was very little purpose in the images being shown… Whether that is a combination of director & actors or should be blamed more on the director or studio’s side, I’m not sure… And it really should have been made in French for sure - without the French language and vision, on top of the aforementioned issues, it certainly feels quite wholly inauthentic. Quite a slog to get through. My first thought upon finishing was “there’s probably going to be a 4 hour director’s cut made of it.. And I doubt that will be any more worth my time.” One last thing; the composition of the movie also just really hampered my enjoyment. It felt so dull and gray! I don’t know what cameras they filmed this with or if this was something done intentionally in editing, but the picture felt so desaturated and lifeless at so many moments.
@@cmkosemen To my knowledge it’s the most accurate comparison there is. The Burger King of historical epics… Truly, Hollywood continues to surprise us…
Everything being in English was the most annoying part of it. It ruins the immersive experience of a historical movie. I would add also Josephine looking younger (especially since her not being able to get pregnant is a major point in the movie) and obviously how choppy the events are portrayed. the Spanish conflict was not even mentioned. The battle sequences and the soundtrack at least were very enjoyable
Napoleon was charismatic, energetic, intelligent and articulate. He was generous even in victory and a poor horseman, on his own admission. Who was this film about?
I saw the movie myself. Also, I agree that the movie is not done in French regarding Napoleon itself. The portrayal of the character in this film is not accurate enough.
I wanna be your egyptian mummy Kosemen Daddy. Your description of how Napoleon is portrayed as a meek and soft creature rather than the insufferable asshole he is reminds me of how Illumination Entertainment poorly portrayed THE GRINCH

“You think that you’re so GREAT, because you have BOATS!!!” 😂 Give that man an Oscar 🏆
That was brilliant, I almost laughed out loud at the cinema. 😅
Still sad that Stanley Kubrick never got to film his planned Napoleon biopic
Bruh, Barry Lyndon is more than enough to make up for it.
I am not saying that.

Iirc the Wellington's comment to the supposed sniper was actually made to an artilleryman.
It's BIZARRE why Scott didn't include it with an artilleryman and had to invent a... TIME SNIPER somehow...
I’m not going to say that Kosemen dad- I mean uh Mr Kosemen
Great review. I agree 100% the movie should have been done in french.
Thanks for watching all the way!
4:40 The movie is The Master (2012) directed by Paul Thomas Anderson.

Yes - esp. with ancient Rome and stuff...
They did it in the Chernobyl HBO series too. Something about American audiences' suspension of disbelief.

Fast food is a great reference. Fast food from a BK that has been using the same oil for an entire week...

Now after watching more reviews the battle scenes seem very faulty too :)
I feel like it had a charm to it in the beginning that it just couldn't keep up. This movie just overstayed it's welcome.
Very true!

Some whiny gen x-er...
I feel like it should've been directed like oppenheimer. something more achronological and more historical.
Yeah - or a smaller part of his career//
CMKoseman have you watched any Marx Bros. movies? I like Duck Soup. Neapolitan I mean Napoleon.
No unfortunately....

Egypt conquered Napoleon.
Example?
that's a weird statement, british fought againts napoleon in egypt.
