Cool amp! I like that it has an FX-loop. And just 15 watt that can be halfed. I would use it as a pedal platform but I definitely want to set the amp to at least edge of breakup so I could use the guitars volume knob and clean up the sound etc. And if its loud as you say I would definitely consider using a JHS little black amp box in the FX loop as a volume control to be able to turn the gain up and volume on the amp while still staying at reasonable volumes. Also it has that half watt mode so.. Seems cool. Actually a guy selling one right now here in Sweden locally atm. Maybe I should give it a try.

There is a wiring defect in the FX loop section in earlier versions of this amp that is likely causing the noise. But I agree, FX loop is probably not critical in this amp.
Does anyone know what this “defect” or wiring issue is? I have noticed a similar thing - took in for repair and they couldn’t identify or isolate the issue - so no fix yet. Any advice on this?
I wanted to love this amp so badly but I still cannot deal with it. I love the fact that it is capable of blacface clarity as well as tweed quality overdrive. Bu the clean headroom is very limited, even for a 15 watt amp.Should not be a problem for club gigs should the amp have a line out feature, which it lacks. The various speaker resistance outputs are nice additions, should make sense for the head variant,, but it is unlikely that I’d ever bother with extension cabinets for a combo of this size. Also this combo weighs a ton, thanks to the plywood cabinet. But in the end of the day, I always end up packing my pv Classic 30, that delivers more power at the same weigth, OR when less power is enough, like in a trio format, I reach to my Super champ X2, which is a much more portable amp than the GVT, with the same power capacity and versatility.
The tubes are new and the headroom is accurate for a 15 watter. Indeed, it has more clean headroom than a BJ. Only the size and weigth is comparable to a 30 watt amp, like the C30, which has more headroom in a compact size. Don’t take me wrong, I’m happy with this amp as long as the sound matters. But I believe it has a linited use in a live setup, as miking is not always an option, and for a small coffee shop gig it’s just huge.
Its a great litte amp! The effect loop on mine dont work. I have replaced the speaker with a WGS Blackhawk Hp, MOD large reverb tank and NOS tubes (6L6) and have opened up the back ca 50%. Sounds great!
Larger, longer decay, more splashy when you turn it up, but quite discret/subtil. The reverb starts to feedback around 1 oclock when in full mode, but 12 oclock is more than enough! @@ZachariahConnor

Interesting, I've played bars with a brutal drummer and had more than enough volume. But the classic 30 must have way more since it's higher wattage.

Nice! Yeah maybe the effects loop is the failure point. How did the reverb tank improve the reverb? Longer decay? More splashy?

I own the VT40 and it turned me into an Ampeg fanboy. It hurt a little when you called it a VT44 but other than that it was great video
