Great now I want an AM10. It seems a daunting build, though. Vertically mounted resisters, eh? Hmmm. I tried looking on the Capi site but I can't find a prebuilt one. Still, $17. I might get two of them because have you heard my voice? Mid-city. I want something smoother. Great vid, man!
I had a feeling you’d dig it based on our convo yesterday. It has such a nice warmth to it, possibly similar to the Aubergine’s sound. The GAR uAM-10 is indeed a tough build with like 30 parts and I believe Resistance Audio sells them already built for like $50. www.resistanceaudio.com/products/gar-am10-discrete-opamp-2520-footprint
Great video I am really enjoying this series. Would you consider A/B'ing these two with the Hairball Lola and Gold? I'd be interested to hear how these compare to those two.
Thank you! Right? I totally agree. DIYRE has the best build guides, to make those great kits within reach of more people, and it’s a formula that too many other diy kit companies are too lazy to follow.
Hi. If you want your recordings to be as clean and accurate as possible, the Jensen 990 is likely the better choice. However, if you’re looking for a touch of warmth and character, the AM-10 might be more to your liking.
Very interesting idea. My two concerns would be that I don't know how to do that, LOL, and second, I'd be afraid that to cover the potting compound with a cover/box may add any extra width to the footprint of the op amp as I have other devices where there is almost no additional space. I have one op amp that has a support bracket for the large transistor and it just pokes out a tiny bit, but it's enough to keep me from being able to install it in my EQP-5. The Hardy 990 is potted in a box, but that's part of the design to keep it within the footprint. Might be cool to pot them in something clear to still see all the guts inside.

Great suggestion. I do need to do the Hairball Gold vs Lola at some point soon and we'll see where that takes us.
I love their kits. Fantastic video

Hi Mark, Thanks - interesting tonal differences. How do these compare to the Deane Jensen 990?

Would you consider 'potting' them? Would it be substantially beneficial for any particular reason other than handing them often?
