Frank Castle, otherwise known as the Punisher, is an unusual case when it comes to superheroes. He’s got no power, but a killer Punisher costume complete with the iconic Punisher skull. Throughout Punisher history and the evolution of the Punisher, Frank hasn’t changed his outfit much. The Punisher, then and now, is still quite similar to his original appearance from his Punisher origin, but across the history of the Punisher and Punisher evolution, Frank Castle has undergone some drastic comics changes.
The Marvel comics killer isn’t exactly your friendly neighborhood superhero, but across Punisher movies, Punisher comics, Punisher videogames and the MCU Punisher Netflix series, Frank has been a killer fashion plate. Outside of the comics, the Punisher has laid waste to various different mediums, starting with the 1989 Punisher, starring a skull-less Dolph Lundgren Punisher, to the Punisher 2004 film starring a Thomas Jane Punisher, Ray Stevenson’s over-the-top kills in Punisher: War Zone, and finally the Netflix Punisher introduced in the Netflix Daredevil series as a Jon Bernthal Punisher. As The Punisher Season 2 nears, where Punisher is set to showdown with Billy Russo, AKA Jigsaw, we’ve been scouring every brutal trailer, clip and scene to see what else we can learn about the mysterious man in black, but we can barely scratch the surface of Frank Castle and his never-ending quest for vengeance.

Saying his "politics" are "beyond antiquated" was pretty daft, and shows a lack of knowledge/understanding of the character beyond a few basic bulletpoints. Frank doesn't care about politics, he functions on a moral basis, and morality runs a lot deeper than anything political.
B Heironymosch that’s cos he’s a stupid liberal
No, morality is the foundation of politics and law, you chose one party or another based on how close their moral stance on certain issues are to your own. The Punisher, as a character, isn't about morality, he is all about pain, a broken man that lost everything that tries ease his suffering doing the only thing he was ever good at, killing, a tragic character.
Exactly. The Punisher doesn't care about any political party, if he cared at all about them he'd say they all failed. He cares about punishing wrong doers, which is why to me personally he's probably one of the best heroes, vs a certain bat themed one that constantly saves the life of a mass murderer.
I like that about Frank he's not political cuz politics are a waste and do not do anything good or make the world a better place
@@arx3516 you said something really stupid and then something really smart.
“The only thing separating the Punisher from your run of the mill serial killer is a cool costume”
And a set of morals. An interesting concept.
How are we taking this sprinkle genie's opinion seriously? This is how he chooses to present himself in public?
The Punisher's politics are hardly antiquated. He is far different from a serial killer in cause, motive, and method. His characterization isn't as "paper thin" as many other characters, having a layered personality. He endures because he's as delusional as Batman thinking ge can end crime, yet picks a much more effective method.
Jacob Staten thanks for saying it. Glad someone did, when this guy said that the Punishers politics were antiquated I rolled my eyes. Didn’t think it was a good sign that man bun was going to talk about the Punisher
Actually, in Punisher MAX Slavers, Frank says that he cannot stop or end the crime.
The Ramo Batman doesn’t think he can end crime either. He wants to make a difference in it
@Rockin' Roll guy shows up to a formal event smelling of B.O., food in his neck beard, wearing a wrinkled smedium tank top, stained sweat pants, and Crocs insisting the Earth is flat. Saying he's a slob does not make my argument that the Earth is round any less accurate. It means he's wrong and presenting himself poorly.
@@NerdGasims I doubt man bun here knew any of this before he made this video... Id like to see his nerd credentials.
Please get people who are actual comic readers and fans to host this show.
What makes you think this isn't the case ?
Why isn't he a fan? Just because he claimed Frank was a serial killer that represents the failure the justice system doesn't means he's not a fan. That is what Frank represents, but that's what makes his character interesting. A troubled man avenging his family the only way he knows how to: with brute force.
@@skinc4rverbecause it’s not really the punisher ( or at least the punisher of modern day). He’s a serial killer sure but he kills people he enjoys it and he knows it. It’s not a political stance on anything these days because Frank isn’t advocating for others to do it
You *DON’T* upset Stan Lee
YaBoiPandaMan And if you do it now. You’re going to hell
well you cant cause he's dead
Hey gang, Moose here with a correction: War Zone Frank is played by Ray Stevenson, not Peterson. I apparently have a Laurel/Yanny type blind spot for this name because I watched this video a dozen times and thought we said "Stevenson" every time. I only hope the 13th will forgive me...
John Bernthal is the BEST PUNISHER. AND THE NETFLIX SHOWS ARE THE BEST.
@blake bishop not really
love ernthals punisher, hated warzone and lundgren, i enjoyed thomas Jane punisher, the epicness of him tricking his enemy into killing his own number 1 guy and wife was great, jane had it down pretty good
@@edwhalen2869 Agreed
I'm glad you give credit to the lesser known Punishers. A lot of people just dismiss all the pre-MCU Punisher adaptions, but they really all have something unique to offer.
My favorite Punisher will always be Garth Ennis' entire run. The best on screen version is definitely Jon Bernthal. But keep in mind that his successful performance is so great largely because the character is fleshed out from Daredevil S2 & then his own solo series of 2 seasons. Thomas Jane & Ray Stevenson had only one movie, each with a poor supporting cast and bad writing.
Aaron Negron NowThis Nerd I’d be interested in an Punisher elseworld where he goes after infamous serial killers like Zodiac, Manson, Jack the Ripper, etc. I mean he’s going to low life mobsters(who aren’t the worst) to Supervillains. Those types of villains aren’t shown much and those are the types of villains Punisher was meant to fight(pure evil people who get away with their actions) and if that means there wouldn’t be any story then make it a short else-world mini series. Also he should go after real evil villains like Fisk, Carnage, Green Goblin, Sabertooth, Bullseye, Purple Man, Jeri Hogarth, etc
Steve Dillon and garth ennis really blew me away with it. I have the whole run including welcome back frank and return of MA gnucci. Ohhh yeas! The max series seemed like it tried a little hard to be edgy but I still loved it!
Jane, Stevenson, and lundgren more than likely didnt do all the research that bernthal did either though. Bernthal stated on both conan and Kimmel that he went to comic book store all over the country to acquire as many punisher issues as he possibly could to help him get into the history and persona of Frank. While yes I do believe the writing for the show was better than the older movies, bernthals dedication to the character as a whole shows.
I prefer max and stevenson version
2004 version to me is a classic i love that movie
Definitely my favorite too! Thomas Jane is so cool as frank castle!
Kinda wish this weirdly hateful narrator didn't bring down such a great video
How's that ?
@@Vapouriste how's what?
@@StewartFletcher how is he hateful?
@@Vapouriste The tone, the attitude, the word choice, it all gives off this vibe that he hates Punisher which is exactly what you don't want from a Nerd channel talking about Punisher
@@StewartFletcher He's smirky but I wouldn't say hateful at all.
The first yellow spandex of 2019
Awesome
Loved War Zone. So glad it was my first and only movie of The Punisher over the other movies.
Kya would've gotten Ray's name right.
But good on you for not sleepin on Stevenson's Punisher. Dude stepped straight out of a MAX comic.
Punisher PS2 game was great you should have talked about it.
Shazam ( the original Captian Marvel ) please. And Black lightning, you guys should doing villains yellow spandex, like for Mysterio lol.
"Ray Peterson" Quality control department is hard at work.
I love the more tactical looks over the spandex and overcoat
Rey stevenson not peterson
We should also give a shoutout to Big Shot from "The Tick"-- easily the best Punisher parody out there.
They had a man bun talk about the punisher......
And ?
I mean we didn't really need the sjw giving his liberal opinion about the punisher
I always figured Lundgren not having the skull on his chest was because you could see the skull on his face, thus the spray painted black 5 o’clock shadow and sharp cheek bones.
Why do they keep acting like Frank is some kind of mindless serial killing psychopath? He’s an exterminator exterminating vermin, child molesters and drug dealers and people that poison this world. Sounds perfectly sane to me.
because they're liberals, and they are NOT sane.
I'm glad this guy took off his thick black-rimmed glasses so we can tell that he was a guy and not a female librarian
What exactly does he look like now! He looks even worse with his hair tied in a really girley bun! What the hell is all that about. And not forgetting the satanic hand gestures haven't gone unnoticed matey! 😁😁
David The Great I picture you as an anti-vax Christian parent.

Sounds like something my 7 year old nephew would say. "only girls have long hair" uhh... Maybe in your sick fantasy, you want that lol
They got the wrong person to talk about this character.
You better include black Punisher.
He did.
ah yes, ray peterson. my favourite actor
The Punisher being appraised by a bloke in a pink sweater and a man bun 😂
Could you cover Emma Frost, she has had amazing costumes, they may be impracticke at times but they suit the character
I don't think pink shirted man-bun was the best person to do a video on the Punisher...
If my man was just a serial killer with a cool costume he wouldn't be such big character in Marvel like he his now. There's much more to Frank than "grr kill bad person"
the punisher is probably one of my favorite anti-heroes. he has a good motive, a great costume and he is so good with guns and at combat that he is a challenge to literal superheroes!

@@Seasonal-Shadow_4674 true
For all the people mad at a liberal bringing politics in the video, maybe he wouldn't have adress it if people hadn't already started using it as a political symbol. Wolverine is as savage as frank castle, but because there is political activist group using him as a symbol there is no need to think about his moral standards when he slices people in half. There's also the fact that this is one if the easiest to emulate comics characters, no one in real life has enhanced healing factors or laser eyes, but there's a lot of people with a big arsenal and a thirst for vengeance. Note that I'm not saying that if you like the punisher you will become a school shooter, one is perfectly capable of enjoying violence in media while not wanting to recreated in real life. For example, this guy has an obvious left leaning bias but he still claims many times in the video "the punisher is badass". Because no matter is you are team gun control or team second amendment I there's no way to change the fact that the punisher is a mutherfucking badass.
Rip stan lee
Glad you brought police skepticism into this.....
John Wick vs The Punisher, who wins?
Can you do Spawn next?
He is not deranged he's my kind of of superhero

Frank Castle or Johnny Blaze?

Ray Stevenson was a great looking Punisher but it was a shame the movie wasnt so great.
That run in Marvel Knights where Punisher kill demons was painful. They even retconned his origin making a demon responsible for his family's deaths. Bernie Wrightson's talents were totally wasted on that story line.
Warzone has the best design
The actor who portrayed the Punisher in Punisher War Zone is Ray Stevenson. Not Peterson.
"Paper thin characterization"? Uh what?
I liked 2004 punisher thought Tom Jane was dope
Great quick and subtle cut to the Freakazoid footage.
I was only two years old when punisher war zone came out
That is the best and most random Bullet Club reference.
I didn’t even know the punisher was a marvel character when the 2004 movie came out. So him wearing skull on his vest that given to him as a gift from his dead son made since to me.
I personally liked all the punisher movies in the 2000s
This video came out 1 day before Punisher Season 2 came out.
Needed this thank you!
IT’S RAY STEVENSON YOU FOOL
Wrong on the Cartoon. Spiderman was not the first Punisher Cartoon Appearance. It was X-Men on Mojos Wolrd Episode.
Well, that isn’t the only separation, he doesn’t kill women or children, unless it HAS to be done, and he only kills people who deserve it
Serial killers have their own codes too sometimes, still love the punisher and he shouldnt be called that lol
He also doesn't kill police or innocents in general.
Spooky what are you talking about? He has killed plenty of women
punisher rocks

Hawkeye next, please... anyone?
hey guys!! I am a big fan of your Yelow Spandex series and would love to know if you guys woulde consider doing a Kingpin episode in the Future. I know he his mostly a big guy in a white suite, but id be fun to see the all the version , from the comics, to the netflixs Daredevil series.
I love the punisher nes game it’s just so fun to play love that you mentioned it
Something else about the Police using his logo: Frank himself doesn't like it. In Punisher Vol. 12, he happened upon two Cops that had a sticker of his logo on their car. They wanted a selfie with him, and he tore up the sticker. Telling them "I'll say this once, we're not the same. You took an oath to uphold the law. You help people. I gave that up a long time ago. You don't do what I do. Nobody does. You boys need a role model? His name's Captain America, and he'd be happy to have you.... If I find out you are trying to do what I do, I'll come for you next." Probably should've said that in the section about it in the vid.
Calling the punisher a deranged killer makes him out to be like the joker or something. He’s a soldier who went to war with the criminal forces that killed his family. That’s like saying any soldier is just a deranged killer, he has morals, a code, and lines he won’t cross
Anyone know the name of the comic where he goes Punished Snake ?
The Punisher isn’t a Super Hero. He’s an anti-hero.
The Punisher did nothing wrong
Ray Stevenson all the way! Respect the skull, my brothers! Respect it!
Fun fact Frank dispises anyone who wears his symbol going so far as to killing them for it.
Ray Stevenson, not Ray Peterson, for Punisher: War Zone
War zone punisher is my favorite look for punisher.
I like how they have Frank in tactical style not a spandex suit that Looks terrible
The Punisher has paper thin characterization ? Seriously?
You forgot Dirty Laundry!
Nice outfit, Andrew. What do you call those? And how do you make your hair long ?
Where's Kya?
Paper thing characterization??? Have u even seen or read any punisher stories, *caugh Netflix series caugh*
Frank will only kill you if you’re a criminal. If you’re an innocent, you’re safe. This guy seems awfully scared of the Punisher. What did he do?
You guys should do Blade next
Hey guys! Can you maybe make a Pennywise Yellow Spandex?
The best thing for me at least about the Punisher was that he had no powers and was still very competitive with powered super heroes/villains. Always the underdog and most times the winner.
Man where kiya at?
She left
Really
‘Ray Peterson’??! Did you actually research this piece, bro?! ‘Ray Stevenson’, Andrew, STEVENSON! I’m used to better quality research from my favourite channel......
All punshier outfit fits squidward from spongebob
7:20 yeah just go with it I have dark brown hair close to black and my facial hair is light brown (my dad is the same but his hair is black)
Do a yellow spandex on the joker
Paper thin characterization? Yup. That's a downvote.
This will get me killed, but I prefer the version of Punisher before Garth Ennis made him 10 times darker, back when he would pull a pickpocket to the side and learn why the person is pickpocketing, instead of shooting him.
Season 2 was awesome!
You mean "Ray Stevenson"?
Ray Peterson?.......Stevenson...
Weak Reaper Ult but I'll allow it 😂
There is something inherently wrong with a 'Man-bun' in a Pink sweater trying to analyze the Punisher
We need about a dozen punishers dropped in DC, the swamp needs drained and so do a few politicians, starts with a D and are a bunch of rats.
Nathan Edmonson and Mitch Gerard’s punisher was the best
What the hell is up with kids fashion sense nowadays?
Its Ray Stevenson, Not Ray "Peterson"....
WTF did I just watch! I’ll never get this minute back
Yellow spandex carnage
I can't believe what he says about the characters in the Netflix shows, Frank doesn't wear the vest cause he's supposed to be dead and it would blow his cover, Jessica is accurate to the comics and the same with Luke cage, also daredevil wears the suit pretty much all of season two and he doesn't wear it in season 1 cause it's about him becoming daredevil, and then he doesn't wear it in season 3 cause what the suit represents gets destroyed by bullseye wearing it
Wasn't the netflix shows cancelled because marvel didn't have enough budget to keep it up?
no..just for wrights,...
Do Luke cage
