This is literally my favorite song and I can't believe in 2022 I still have to go on RUclips to listen to it
Omg I'm so glad I'm not the only one in 2022 who loves this song
Been saying this for yeara
It's not my all time favorite but it's a damn good one
2023 and I still can't listen anywhere besides youtube and on the podcast ep itself
This comment only hurts more as time passes 😅
This episode has one of the best matches of Weather to story. For some reason, this song just fits the Dana Arc well!
Because they're both gay
I thought the same. One of the best episodes, and songs
This is one of my favorite weather segments. I love how it seemed to flow with the narrative, rather than being a counterpoint, as so many of them are.
Same. This song just fit so perfectly that this episode destroyed me a little. Seems only a few other songs fit the episode, but this one was just perfect.
"so you frighten the ghost town
and ground them all down
til one day you'd reach a consensus
and I know from your verse
you put America first
and all others you simply beat senseless"
Relevant
Ho, you have no idea...
You mean relevant to the Ukraine war?
it is just sad that this don't exist on spotify.... this is one of the songs/bands that deserves my money, and youtube just f**ks em over... because youtube got that kind of power
Spotify pays very very little even to really popular musicians
There’s actually a cover of it on Spotify. By Bill something or other. It’s not at great as this one, but it’s not bad.
DESPAIR NO LONGER open.spotify.com/track/4Q7odFHC0GmAVNqXO3nPPs
Buy their CD that does more for you and them than a digital purchase
It's actually on spotify, however it was never released from the region lock, and probably won't be for a long time
I know this was used in WTNV but it gives me such Alice isn’t Dead vibes
Absolutely!
My favourite song I've heared in Night Vale so far.
I dunno. I can get the suicide thing but I always got the heroin addiction vibe from it (lethal temptress) Heroin is the only drug that has a genuinely feminine name to it. I always interpreted it as being about two lovers getting caught with theirs drugs and the boyfriend testifying against her in court (boardroom that left me defenseless, you'll put America first, reach a consensus.) the wound in her head is the her mind being blown that he would turn on her. she's going to have one last shot on the night before she goes to prison where she knows she won't be able to get any dope so but for obe final sin we wont see her again being held by this addiction.
Maybe the reason the song is so good is because the interpretation can be so personal for people.
You've given me something to think about.
I think it's just a song about a shitty, but really hot, ex that you still want to sleep with
It literally has "bottle of gin" in the texts, she's an alcoholic
I dunno, Marijuana is literally feminine in Spanish and is Americanized as Mary Jane.
That said, I get your point and its something to consider.
@@kas8ia maybe but alcohol isnt the lethal temptress
I love getting to see everyone else's views on what this song means to them - the band gave us a lot we can chew on. It seems like everyone gets to relate in their own way, which feels like the best way to experience this song. Art is subjective, pain is subjective, and this song gives both. I hope we all do okay.
Why are the country songs from the weather always the best?
The only song in NightVale I actually listened to and took the time to look up.
mijn maneir is good too!
oh and neptunes jewels! but i only found three so far I really digged'
I now have several more on my playlist
Ghost Story by Charming Disaster is also really good, but I agree this one is the best, and went along with the episode the best
*quiet yelling* DANAAAAA
god i love this episode
and this song
and this everything...
My guess is that she tried to commit suicide, blacked out, came to, and is going to have one last drink before finishing the job
"and I know from your verse
// you put America first //and all others you simply beat senseless " according to google it was released in 2005. seers...
There have always been people like that.
This is an absolute banger.
I find it funny I was listening to Alice isnt dead before i listened to this episode and I was thinking Dana... is definitely Chanterelle. Great episode all around.
Interesting that the singer sounds like the voice actress that voiced Dana. Honestly it’s one of the best songs chosen for the weather section
I love this one, I want to waltz to it!
But then you realize it's about suicide...
still... sad dances are fun too
VenetianTemper yeah.
nice weather we're having!
Really bothers me this is my favourite album of theirs and it's not on Spotify.
Sad this isn’t on Spotify
Mercy, this song has it all!
I love this band and I love the show.
A bit of a resemblance to the cadence/phrasing of Chelsea Hotel #2 (Leonard Cohen)
woodweezel1 I instinctively began singing "Don't mean to suggest...I loved ya the best" when I first heard it. Its a classic GCG GDG song as well
+woodweezel1 I recalled this song when I was listening to a cover of Chelsea Hotel #2
this song has been in my head for years but i could never find it.
And now the weather...
Is this not Neko Case? It sounds like her singing.
Yeah pls upload more video I love all the song you upload
this song is so beautiful and painful...
Reminds me of Mazzy Star!!
So is this song about addiction? That's what I always took it as.
This song is sung by Shannon McCardle. Her ex husband was in TML with her. I think this is about their dysfunctional marriage, and yes, using drugs (or something?) as an escape.
カロ in my opinion it's about alcoholism. But I think it's somewhat open to interpretation
Its about a feeling that kicks a lot harder than any drug.
sound wise, it reminds me a lot of Phil Ochs - The Ringing of Revolution
I wonder if this song was by a male vocalist, whether the comments section would be THIS intent on proving that it's 'definitely about drugs, or suicide, or some other METAPHOR', and not about having sex with a woman.
222ravens cause she talks about death, she has a gun shot wound in her head, she apologizes about falling to this 'lethal temptress ', she sings about being defenseless in a courtroom ( may be a metaphor but perhaps she had a traumatic/abusive experience and doesn't feel like she got the justice she deserves)...
Could be a metaphor for her but for the purposes of the songs narrative I think it's supposed to be literal
"The Lethal Temptress" Just sounds like a BED to me XD
Or more darkly, the temptation to just sprawl out in bed and not care. To sleep away your life or your guilt rather than face it is the 'temptation' it offers. The verses seem to imply a kind person being unable to compete with an unkind person, because an unkind person isn't saddled with things like guilt or responsibility for their actions.
Which puts a quasi-humorous lilt to her promise that the person she's singing to "Won't see her again, in the arms of the lethal temptress" (IE, you're not going to see me in bed anymore).
222ravens ive always thought it was about an abusive relationship that led to drinking
not every opinion saying that a song isnt about lesbians is because the person hates lesbians (im pansexual, but i never thought that it was about her loving another woman before)
You know it wouldn’t be. People would just accept it’s about a sexy, mean woman and move on. Great song though.
Because all clues lyrical and as far as ate easily as retained about the artists personal life are indicative of the lethal temptress being metaphorical and not actual.

Came here looking for baseball left with a good song
I ♥ this so much! *sway*
next weathers please
A song about addiction...and it's exactly 4:20 minutes long...coincidence?
"so you frighten the ghost town
and ground them all down
til one day you'd reach a consensus
and I know from your verse
you put America first
and all others you simply beat senseless
and worship like this
is to honor the fist
and to conjure what's cruel and licentious "
Does this remind anyone else of Donald Trump?
YES
@@aetherel nope only Nancy Polisi
i never realized how gay this song was when i was little, now i know :)
Leonard Myers imo that’s kinda disrespectful to the song, it’s a metaphor for suicide & addiction, not really about love
@@krissy4052 says who
Lot of people guessing what this song is about, but I just wanted to throw out that they're gay.
boring, (YAWN)
