You should get vordts greathammer it is a great weapon for beginners like u or u could go down road of sacrifices there you will find a black knight who respawns who you can farm for the black knight greatsword and the armour set and yoel gives u a free lvl every two times you die at firelink shrine. He gives a maximum of 5 free lvls. And going down to road of sacrifices you will find a giant crab behind it you will find a body with the grass crest shield.
I've gone thru road of sacrifices already and got my ass kicked by the black knight xD. I did miss the grass crest shield tho so I'll have to go back for that. I did end up finding the level guy, I think I got 2 from him so far.
