I live in Scotland, and i often go down to England, and i pass lockerbie on the M74. This disaster shows, as well as with flight 587 and many others, you can get killed in a air accident without ever stepping on a plane.
Remember landing at Heathrow that day, December 21 1988, and as we taxied in my mum leaned over and said 'look at the size of that plane' pointing at a pan am 747 being prepped for departure. Such evil.
This is from the miniseries about Lockerbie that came out earlier this month. Colin Firth plays Jim Swire, the father of one of the victims who became involved with the investigation.
engines too close, passengers boarding from the right side instead of left. The flight departed Heathrow so I guess it should be using a jetway instead of airstairs? At 0:05 the blue cheatline on the windows disappeared.
I was at the vet picking up medication for my dog when the crash was announced on the news. I couldn't quite figure out what Dan Rather was trying to say. At first, he made it sound like a Pan Am 727 tried to make an emergency landing in Scotland but crashed during its attempt. I thought PA doesn't fly 727s domestically in the UK or from the UK to the US. It had to be a 747. I've flown on many PA 747s during my childhood travels from 1970 to 1991. From 1981 to 1988, we often flew Clipper Class, which was situated above the forward main cargo area.
@thetruthbehindplanes The look of the middle section is fairly accurate (we'll never have a true idea how it looked as it fell), but my problem stems from it flying level overhead, instead of screaming down in a fireball as eyewitnesses saw that night.
First couple of seconds there are a few mistakes. The tail fin is crooked, the engines are too close to each other and the outer one is probably also crooked, the bottom half is painted light gray isntead of bare metal, the light gray gets cut off by the nose cone instead of curving downwards, and in the scene showing the cargo being loaded the whole plane becomes white
@hoshimaruhajime7933 I wasn't hating. Farewell Life has been featured in almost every plane crash animation I've watched. It gets annoying and repetitive after a while. It is the Sleeping Sun of crash animations. Not to mention "Lockerbie: A Search For Truth" already has a decent soundtrack composed by Rupert Gregson-Williams for this scene.
Boarding from the right side and seeing more than 3 windows on the top deck in the trailer for this series made me give it a miss. If they can’t get this simple bit accurate what’s to say about the credibility of the rest of it?
it’s not an animation at 0:00, that’s actually a plain white 747 with the Pan Am livery digitally overlayed on it for the production of this 5-part miniseries
@@robertmcghintheorca49 G-BDXJ has B-52 styled engines…which would look more like them being attached to each other with the double nacelles. This is still separate nacelles but they seem closer together. Maybe it’s the angle more than anything. Looks like a regular 747 to me, digitally overlayed in Pan-Am colors. The movement of the people boarding looks too real to be animated.
Yeah, no. That's not how a 747 at Heathrow would usually board. It'd be by a jetway and not airstairs (unless it was one of the remote stands, in which case I rescind my comment) At least they got the name right, "Clipper Maid Of The Seas"
A huge error. Passengers hardly board on the starboard side of the aircraft as that is the side cargo is loaded. Their is lots of movement on that side and a higher risk of passengers being injured. Secondly, given it's an international flight, passengers would've boarded via an aerobridge on the port side of the aircraft.

May all the innocent people who died in Lockerbie that day rest in peace
And this, ladies and gentlemen, was the beginning of the end of Pan Am.
The full crisis and merger with National was actually the beginning of the end
I can vaguely remember this happening when I was very small and only recently at Christmas I decided to travel to Lockerbie and visit the crash site.
Wow, this is incredible
No disrespect to the people who lost their lives
I found you And I agree it’s very well made
Rip for that bozo's police car
The first mistake in 0:03 is that the engines are too close and the tail is crooked
It's just the angle perspective

0:32, that is the mid section of Pan Am Flight 103 where the two wings was
it literally flies like normal....is this animation accurate?
@thetruthbehindplanes Well the mid section I do believe stayed intact but it was more of a vertical impact
@thetruthbehindplanesnot rlly this looks like it’s out of a movie tbh

According to this animation, they boarded on the wrong side of the plane.

This is based off a search for the truth series
Besides the engines being way to close to each other at 0:00 this animation was quite good
This was probably because they might have used G-BDXJ (the aircraft modified for "Casino Royale") as a double for N739PA.

The engines look a bit close together too. And the police car is a model not yet available then.
Otherwise nice use of practical sets & effects
And boarding actually took place during early evening/dusk time conditions, not during nigh time. The plane crashed when the night just hit.
According to International Civilian Aviation Organization rules,Explosives like bombs are not allowed on planes.
