Meng Yao tricked Nie Huaisang into helping kill the one person Nie Huaisang really loved, his brother Nie Mingjue. So as part of his revenge on Meng Yao, Nie Huaisang tricked Lan Xichen the one person Meng Yao really loved, into killing him. Nie Huaisang'a revenge was systematic and brutal, and ended up hurting just as many people as Meng Yao did.

ngl the only reason Meng Yao's death made me feel bad was Xichen. Xichen is such a kind character so his suffering hurts, but other than that Meng Yao 1000% deserved that ending.

It's never really shown or explained in the show, but after Meng Yao dies, Lan Xichen locks himself away and punishes himself, he blames himself for his death. The guilt doesn't leave him because he believes he should've been there for Yao more, then Yao wouldn't have ended up the way he did :(
Ok guys, it isn't specifically said but it is very heavily implied

Where does it say that? And does it specify that reason for why he locks himself away?

@jerrytube & @breezy3392 Unfortunately since we never go directly into Lan Xichens thought process within the book and he is not the type of character to state his reasoning for something so personally we only have conjectue from Wei Wuxian and towns people to go off of. (But that is the case of most of this book which is filled with the perspective of multiple unreliable narrorators and its one of the reasons I love it so much.) All we get are four points in the book that give us slight moment which show us how distraught he is and the possibilities as to why.
Chapter 22 pg.126 has two paragraphs of Xichen in shock wondering exactly why it was Guangyao did what he did in which no one could answer. Pg has Lan Qiren noticing Xichen is still out of it and berating him for it with Xichen begging him to stop.
Chapter 23 pg, 182 has the townspeople mentioning how upset Xichen looked at the coffin sealing ceremony and speculating various reasons why that may be with it ening in all of them shrugging it off with a i"Who knows"
And finally Extra 1 pg 207 mentions how three months later Xichen is in seclusion and seems to have lost a considerable amount of weight continuing onto page 210 which states that even in a small family gathering he is getting multiple things wrong in his speach to the point that Qiren pulls him aside to scold him.
So no, it never directly states that he's mourning Guangyao specifically, but it is heavily implied that the finalie to his relationship with Guangyao has left a heavy emotional turmoil on him that has left him questioning and out of it even months later.

I hope you have the opportunity to watch the series. The edits are excellent- the last dialog between Xichen and Weng Yao is a very powerful moment.

@@14blackhearts JC and Wei thought it was more important yo Meng Yao that others called him “Son of a w$(;:” , however, it became obvious that it was important to Meng Yao, that Xichen understood how much he cherished their relationship. When Xichen bowed his head to accept death, the gesture seemed to revitalized Meng Yao’s fierceness and he made his last act as one of love- pushing Xichen into Lan Wange’s arms. I love this drama’s multi-layered portrayal of even the minor characters stories.

In the official MV for Lan xichen, meng Yao is featured a lot. I’ll say that … I think it’s canon at least in the show that they were… something. It’s complicated though 😅 there are some things I hope u don’t get spoiled for and just watch it because… wow.
My favorite thing in this series is some of the follow through - a small moment early in the show comes back later with so much more meaning and is illuminated. Small characters come back and are actually really important. There’s things that aren’t finalized until ep 50 and you go back and watch ep 1 and are shocked at what you missed

i love the untamed because even Meng yao had justification it was an excessively dealt with wrongs justification none the less the only one that i cant find any justified reasoning was Wen Chao he was just a rich psycho bully teenager lol

I'm guessing you haven't watched The Untamed yet. I've seen your reactions for these. You have got to watch this series. It's amazing, and the music is beautiful, not the same as the ones on these videos. The main song of Wei and Wanji's love is my ringtone! And has been for a loooog time 🥰

Jin Guangyao is my favourite MDZS character. His relationship with Lan Xichen is heartbreaking because he's objectively a bad person. Despite all his justifications (and he had some good reasons, at least at the beginning), he decided to turn into someone who'd hurt anyone to get what he wants. But he would NEVER be able to bring himself to hurt Lan Xichen. I just love it when even villains have a weakness. Like a sibling, a friend, or a lover. I think in a way Lan Xichen is all three of those for Jin Guangyao, depending on how you interpret their relationship. I lean more towards lover than sibling, but that's just me. Either way it's heartbreaking when even though he lied to Lan Xichen about almost everything, he was always truthful when he said he cared about him the most.
