    Nothing better than that new (old) camera smell! Glad I found your channel, I was browsing youtube while scanning the negatives from a roll of Lomo 800 I developed about two hours ago! We will see how they turn out as I just repaired the camera (Bronica EC.) Now I can binge your vids while waiting on the slow-roll progress of the Epson!

      @@viewfindings V550 - I like the results - but it is a pain in the butt to use. The software is annoying, the film holders are annoying, and you have to keep the little calibration sensors spotless or you get lines in your scans. And it is slooooooow. I recently started scanning my negatives flat on the glass, held down by glass - as "positives" then import into Negative Lab Pro - and that gives the best results IMO.

    Thanks for this video, really enjoyed it. Also made me a little homesick for my old neighborhood there :-).
    The RZ is a studio camera for sure, but tell that to Annie Leibovitz, who frequently used them all the time in on-location setups. Still easier to haul around than a Sinar P2! When I worked at a commercial color lab in Hollywood in the 90's, I can tell you 6x7 negs were my favorite job order to see come in -- so much information, so much gorgeous color in those negs, a perfect format for large prints, and virtually every major shooter was using them. As far as the batteries go, buy a few and keep them in your bag -- not a big deal. These cameras are extremely well-built, and if you treat them with reasonable care (and not like a power tool thrown into the back of a truck, as many I've rented were lol), it might just outlast you.
    And now you've convinced me I need to pick one up again 🙂

    • @viewfindings
      @viewfindings  6 месяцев назад

      Oh to be a fly on the wall of a lab in Hollywood in the 90’s. How cool that must’ve been. Just looked up the Sinar P2 and sheesh it def makes the RZ look like an itty bitty thing haha i hope you get another one and love it! Thank you for sharing this!

    I'm so happy for you, this camera is insanely good. Tricky to use sometimes, and electronics can die sometimes. Don't forget the bellows extension exposure compensation when metering manually. If you can, when you have money for that, get the additional diopter for the AE prism (since you wear glasses like me it could spare you some headache with focusing) and maybe one of the very hard to find focusing screens with microprism or split prism assist. as for the weight, yeah it's not made to walk around with it but the results when you do... I suggest using a small monopod, it helps a lot in the field.

    So happy you found this! I know the RB was a disappointment, so I hope you find joy with this one. You have the right attitude- don’t worry about the electronics, just enjoy it! You’re going to treat it a lot better than if it were being used full time in a studio. Next stop, the Bronica GS-1 and Pentax 67! 😂

    The RZ67 is one of the two cameras I use the most (the other being an Intrepid 4x5). Maybe I'm lucky but the only thing that's ever broken on mine is the M-R switch, and even while waiting to fix it it was still operable with pliers or a binder clip - this is across 8 years of heavy use in the field (I take it hiking; very much not just a studio camera for me either!). The negatives are super silky. Enjoy!

    • @viewfindings
      @viewfindings  5 месяцев назад

      I have only ever gotten insurance for gear when making an initial purchase on ebay. It's an option when checking out or you can apparently do so within 30 days of purchase. It's with Allstate. I don't know much about insuring gear otherwise.

    Congratulations.. what bag do you use for it? Can you talk a little bit more on insurance? Isn't insurance more expensive in the long run? Isn't it better to let go if it breaks on you and get another rather than the never ending insurance?

    • @viewfindings
      @viewfindings  6 месяцев назад

      Hey thank you for watching and great questions. I mainly use a brevite camera bookbag and I love it.
      The insurance I’m referring to in this video is the one that you can add to an eBay purchase that is a one time cost for either 1 or 2 years- which works for me. There are lots of different types of insurance out there though. Which I can’t really speak on since I haven’t tried them out.

  • @dps6198
    @dps6198 6 месяцев назад

    I camera that I have mastered is my dream camera. Most of us barely know how to use the camera we have and believe a more expensive camera will change how we take photos. No it won't.

    • @viewfindings
      @viewfindings  6 месяцев назад

      Adding allstate insurance is an option when purchasing on eBay. I’ve never purchased insurance after the fact, but I’ve read that a plan can be bought within 30 days of your eBay purchase

  • @katboll123

    How much was it?

  • @jpjast5739
    @jpjast5739 6 месяцев назад

    The problem with Mamiy rz67 is really not electronics but gears. Rather than online forums, you should speak to repair techs. Nippon Photo Clinic in nyc does repairs at $400 + tax and this camera’s gears strip and need replacement. Electronics can be a problem but that is more in the PRO II model, not the first PRO version. As for RB66, you need to buy from a reputable seller. All cameras like cars need maintenance and 40+ years later it’s normal.

    My best wishes for your new buddy ;-) Incidentally, Photographers like *Roger Fenton and Mathew Brady photographed the Crimean war and the civil war with silver plate, i.e. 9 x 4.5 and 8 x 12 glass plates, (large format) cameras. They carried their eqipments on horse wagons, not only because of the size of the cameras, but because every negative was one glass plate! Both produced thousands! I think it is fair to say, that they would have considert your Mamia as a point and shoot...;-) * en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Roger_Fenton%27s_waggon.jpg
