Is it possible to alleviate pain due to physical injury ( not injury in the mind like psychosomatic pain)? I have had lower bowel adhesions for 5 yrs since tearing abdominal muscles and rupturing stomach wall lifting a heavy weight. Daily pain is terrible. Can meditation/ self hypnosis/ other help alleviate pain from physical injury?

Hi Brian, I get what you are feeling. I’m convinced that I got adhesions too after abdominal open surgery early 2018. How was your found? as they say you can’t see them on scan. I told the surgeon when I went back for post op check about the awful feeling of pulling & tight heavy feeling in my abdomen (still have) He replied in a cocky tone that he was a too good surgeon for my op to result in that. The only other thing is poor weak tummy muscles, but it’s hard for me to exercise the muscles as I’ve also got persistent low back pain. If I didn’t have children & grandchildren I wouldn’t want to be here.

Hi Helen, sorry to hear about your issues and your surgeon being an arrogant imbecile. Surgery can most certainly be the cause of your scar tissue, regardless of how great a surgeon he is. I got injured lifting a heavy weight. You can see scar tissue in a ct scan and the radiologist even noted the scar tissue in my scan. Clonazepam really helps my pain because it causes abdominal muscles to relax causing less pulling on the scar tissue. Talk to your physician about trying small doses of clonazepam. And no, having strong abdominal muscles won't change anything with the pain from your scar tissue, my doctor explained one can develop the abdominals of an Olympic gymnast but it won't help the pain one iota as the scar tissue won't change due to strong abdominal muscles.
