      This is a really popular video; when I first posted it as an experiment I wasn't sure it would stay up. I have always hoped that the participants and their families have enjoyed it. BTW, that looks like Rockford's Firebird. And Thank You for the comment.

    I pulled minis with my dad in the 80's and it was sure fun being in the pits talking with Art and everyone else during that time period. Brings back a lot of great memories. Thanks for posting the video.

    Oh my god! I never thought I would see this event again! My dad recorded this on VHS for me decades ago when it happened live! I watched it constantly but unfortunately, the show got taped over in the early 90's. I never knew the name of the event so I have just been doing searches on RUclips starting with 1985 tractor pulls and just happened to find this upload! Thank you so much!!!
    Me and my dad went to old MSG and saw Art Afron's Green Monster in action in 1985/86ish. I have some photos kicking around the house.
    Just so you know, my video from way back in the day also ran out of tape right before the finals. IIRC, my copy ran out when they were down to the final 3. Tim Engler, with Mission Impossible, Milton Bergman with Rambunctious and I forget who the third guy was. The search is still on for a complete copy of this event, but thanks again for giving me a name of the show to go by!
    Steve Jaske driving The Blazing Bison was competing in this show and during the first round (after this tape cuts off unfortunately) he took the sled out of bounds and was DQ'D. I don't know if there were any other tractors besides his that were yet to appear before this video runs out.

      The NTPA website shows that Tim Engler won the pull-off. If you find the pull-off video upload it and/or put a link in a comment. And Thanks for your comment.

    Do any of these vehicles have any cooling systems/radiators?

    • @vidwilzvids9587
      @vidwilzvids9587  6 лет назад +2

      Like drag racers: No. No radiator, no coolant pump, and in most cases, no coolant. Beyond that, maybe a viewer can provide more info.

    Tim Engler said " I kept hitting the right brake cause it wanted to keep going to the right. Would you not hit the left brake to cause more traction to move it to the left ?

    • @vidwilzvids9587
      @vidwilzvids9587  6 лет назад +3

      It seemed like he was saying the flexing of the frame was causing the right wheel to lift and rob power from the left wheel which still had enough traction to nudge the rig to the right. Just my guess.

    • @MisterTee2010
      @MisterTee2010 6 лет назад +1

      Kind of makes sense. But I've driven a few tractors in my time. Not in tractor pulls. But when I've gotten bogged down and one wheel is stuck. I would apply the brake to that wheel to help me shift the tractor a bit to maybe improve the traction. Thanks for the reply.

    • @vidwilzvids9587
      @vidwilzvids9587  6 лет назад +2

      I've also experienced similar situations with farm tractors in wet spring ground and snow; I'd venture to say that a four engine 2000 horsepower mechanical draft beast may have some quirks that neither one of us can relate to. Thanks again for the comment.

    • @whatsinanamethatthecaptive577
      @whatsinanamethatthecaptive577 5 лет назад

      You are correct @mistertee2010, you would use the left brake. Tim misspoke. I pulled minis in the early 80's. The physics are the same on the tractors you drove, the minis I drove and the modified. Using the left brake slows the left tire and turns the tractor to the left. Just like steering a zero turn lawn mower.
