I 100% agree with your take on 'joyful skincare' and I apply this to everything in my life because everything feels like a chore to me. Before I discovered skin care, hygiene and selfcare tiktok/youtube I literally didn't take care of myself or my basic personal hygiene because I hated it so much. Now I have shower, hygiene and skin care routines that I will stick to everyday because I actually enjoy it, I use nice looking and smelling products and that motivates me to take care of myself.
I love both the simplicity and complexity of The Ordinary. The simplicity allows me to pick the specific ingredients I know works for my skin, and them being in separate bottles makes me feel like a scientist mixing up the perfect concoction in my lab aka my bathroom. Also i'm cheap AF and the ordinary is my most trusted budget brand. I can see that our philosophies towards skincare are the complete opposite but I still love seeing all the products you talk about on the channel. Now its time to watch the other video that just got posted!
I feel very called out by the thumbnail… I use CeraVe SA for cleanser, Thayers Witch Hazel for toner, Cosrx Snail Mucin Essence, and the CeraVe lotion! Completely understand the points about skincare being something “special” but I def use cerave because I have eczema & sensitive skin. I’ve gone through trying to use “fancy” stuff but it never works and is too expensive!
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Moisturizer is the best moisturizer I've ever used till now...not only that it weightlessly hydrate and moisturize my skin,it also make my skin looks glowy and make my skin texture look very smooth
@@thisizshortlycherifa7810Yes,it literally make my skin feel and look so smooth, hydrated and plump...It also makes my pores looks smaller...I've tried so many moisturizers for years, but nothing can beat the Neutrogena Hydro Boost..we all have different skin, which works for 1 person might not work for the other and vice versa...Yoi can try their gel cream or nourishing cream version too if u want..
@@thisizshortlycherifa7810 same. Every time I used it, my skin would be really irritated and red the next day. I don't think my skin like hyaluronic acid.
Their body gel is one of my holy grails. I absolutely love this line too and had to chime in about their micellar water and how awesome it's been. Everyone's skin is different so test wisely 😊
Omg, back to back good ones! I think my biggest recommendation from this list is the CeraVe hyaluronic niacinamide toner. It’s super soothing and affordable while also eliminating the need for a separate niacinamide serum.
I use la roche as a second cleanse and thayers for toner, because to me they’re a basic step so I’m fine with whatever works. What gives me joy are oil cleansers and serums! I remember to wash and tone my face more regularly because I love that part of the routine 😂
Cerave hydrating cleanser, nivea and la roche posay saved my skin, i really love those brands. But it depends on the person. Every skin is different, what is good for me may not be good for everyone.
I have same thoughts about cerave too, yeah it feels like medical paste lol. I still think its a safe choice for people who have skin issues, but do nothing for my skin, id like skincare with centella extract or some ingredients like mugwort and so that soothing my skin. Also as a skincare addiction i found its more fun to have flawless skin 🗿✨
Used to hide my dislike for CeraVe anytime a girl found out i was into skincare and raved about it. It feels like medication for my skin - not a joyful experience at all
I love skincare as self care, but most days I just need it to work so I keep it very simple. My armpits love cerave sa smoothing cleanser😅 it’s the only product that I have found that I feel like actually remove my deodorant. I also jumped on the ordinary glycolic acid train. I haven’t used it for very long but so far my feet and legs seem to like it😅
So fascinating cause I love medical blandness of cerave. It brings me joy how bland it it. My house is also poster, painting and Knick-knacked up so I call it balance.
I actually cannot stand micellar water and cleansing foams, but there are so many good ones on the market that I would recommend. I think its just a personal issue. My skin always feels too damaged after cleansing, though i never got an actual problem from it. edit: oh btw, I would love a video about the inkey list and other affordable options that are suitable for rosacea! I recently struggeling with it and some guidance here would be really awesome
I cannot stand fragrance so I do have to be particular about skincare. Drugstore skin care does have a time and a place, especially when you don’t want to wait for shipping for the punkyang yul or go over $20 in your skin care products
I have had rosacea and extremely sensitive skin since I was about 16 and I tried cera-ve after hearing all the hype about how good it is for sensitive skin, it burned the shit out of my face! I stay FAR away from that stuff now 😅
Every brand you mentioned with the exception of The Ordinary & the dupes -- I have never tried The Ordinary or the dupes-- and the reasons you gave for not caring for those brands are the same thoughts I have had about those brands. I have used CereVe, Neutrogena, and Thayer's and never reordered. I like the sensory calming feeling to my skincare routine. And my rosacea-prone aging skin absolutely loves certain K-Beauty brands like Beauty of Joseon, CosRx, TirTir, and a brand I found called Gangnam Glow, and some Purito products, too.
I have fungal acne and cerave is the only moisturizer I can use. It’s no frills and not super moisturizing but it doesn’t feed the yeast bumps on my skin.
I use the Japanese Hada Labo Gokujyun line. It's based on hyaluronic acid, very moisturizing, has good packaging, & doesn't break the bank. I'm pretty lazy when it comes to skin care, so having an entire product line that caters to my dry, acne prone skin needs is great.
James your uploads always brighten my day, so thank you!! Request / suggestion : pleaaase do a tour of your skincare shelves behind you, every video I see something shiny that I want 🤣 and can’t tell what they are lol
I don’t use CeraVe because of the boycott but I have used neutrogena. I use their ultra gentle cleaner now because besides dry skin i have no skin issues. It’s cheap and it cleans my face. I would prefer to try new products later in the future
Ahahahah I totally understand your feelings around CeraVe, I'm the same. I always have an unopened SA cleanser for emergencies at home, bc it saved me many times, but yeah. Their products feel clinical. I actually buy it in a pharmacy too ahahah
With the rate in which new products get released, one big, 'revolutionary' thing is already dated before the next thing comes along. I tend to keep to my holy grails but research new products to maybe try when I run out of something.
Relatable. Lately, it seems like everything is a trend, which is fine if you like to splurge on skincare (no judging), but it can be exhausting at times... as well as exciting bc "look at all of this new stuff!" But yeah, always a good idea to have a Holy Grail "library" at home ahah
@@aronhelios1734 Yes--and you have to find space for it all plus you risk your skin every time you try something new then are stuck with another bottle barely used and money wasted. You can have fun trying new things but still be smart about it.
While it's not my job, I'm 100% with you on trying new and fun skincare bringing joy 🖤💜 Also, a double upload plus a Robert Reacts video made my day!!!
right now i'm using thayers with glycolic and lactic acids toner and a toner with salicylic acid and witch hazel along with a rice milk toner. is that too much?
@@nailkittyare you using the glycolic, lactic, and salicylic acids all at once? If so, it really depends on the percentage of the acids, how often you’re using them, and how sensitive your skin is. If it’s a high percentage of salicylic acid, I would probably alternate between that and the glycolic/lactic acid toner just to avoid over doing it and compromising your skin barrier function. All of those acids are exfoliants, and you should avoid over exfoliating because you could end up with dry, peeling, irritated skin. If that happens, try reducing how often you use them to like every other night or every 3rd night. Also, are you using sunscreen? If not, stop using the acids until you find one you like. They make your skin very sensitive to sunlight and may cause more harm than good if you don’t wear sunscreen while using them. Toners usually go before serums. You want to apply products from lightest/thinnest consistency to heaviest. Water or milky toners first, then serums (they usually are a little bit thicker than toners/essences), then moisturizer/ oils/ sunscreen to lock in all in. Hope this helps!
You like what you like so there should never be any rules for that, except for your own personal preference. I personally try to get the most affordable but effective products for my main gripes about my skin, but that is just me. Now, if free though I would try anything at least once..haha!😉
@sandramatras8345 well i have dry skin and they have very good face and body creams. My favorite is the moisturizing and hydrating provitamine b3 face and body cream.
Hoping James is doing well health-wise. I've noticed significant weight loss, and while that's great when you're trying, I always grow concerned. I had a friend who lost a lot of weight rapidly and people were congratulating her, meanwhile she was living undiagnosed with lymphoma because she couldn't get to a doctor.
Audi Dupes? Sorry was listening rather than looking at screen ( doing dishes). Wait, these arent dupes via the product only the packaging? Id love to learn more sbout this issue. Any video suggestions?
I never liked CeraVe!! Their products are not cosmetic elegant and most of their products don’t agree with my skin. Never understood why people love this brand. But, if their products work for you and other people, then continue to use CeraVe 🙌🏻

The ordinarys glycolic acid is my holy grail for my armpits lol. For that reason alone i love them.
And for 'active' men, it keeps it all fresh down there, til the end of the day 😇

Ugh! The CeraVe SA moisturizer… I hate it but sometimes it’s the only thing my skin tolerates… but it’s so boring

Does it work well? I've only ever used a face mist, but I am in Denmark so it's easy for me to find. Do you have any good recommendations?
