US Clears $138Mn Sale Of Hawk Missile System As Ukraine Seeks To Bolster Air Defences Against Russia

- The United States will sell Ukraine up to $138 million worth of equipment to maintain and upgrade its HAWK air defence systems to help defend against Russian drone and cruise missile attacks, a U.S. State Department official told Reuters.
The US began shipping HAWK interceptor missiles to Ukraine in 2022 as an upgrade to the shoulder-launched Stinger air defence missile systems - a smaller, shorter-range system.
Since then, Ukraine has received several air defence systems, including the US-made Patriot system.
Tuesday's emergency foreign military sale is worth as much as $138 million, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Although Ukraine has run out of many sources of U.S. funds, Kyiv was given a grant of $300 million in foreign military financing as part of the annual defence spending bill recently signed into law. The grant money will be used to pay for the equipment, which includes engineering and integration for communications and refurbishment of HAWK fire units.

Its weapon debt trapping; Ukraine will have to pay it back sometime in the future. Just like UK paying back weapons/money borrowed for ww1 and ww2. The difference is this time it is clearly caused by us political agitation in Ukraine, using it's propaganda media to cause discontent in Ukraine.. On why weapons dumping is good for weapons manufacturers and politicians especially those from usa, when countries give away their old stocks, they need new stocks to keep their arsenal up to date, and you can guess who they going to buy new weapons from.

I am quite sure that if the USA withdraws from NATO, it is the American arms industry that will lose the most. There are so many good alternatives with European ownership rights that are currently produced under license in the USA. If we cannot trust the US as an ally, these agreements will most likely be terminated. In addition, European weapon systems will be reduced. Thus releasing large sums for the build-up, development and production of European weapon systems.
Europe should anyway produce a bulk of its arms, trade specialized or low volume arms.
