Yashiki's the heart and the spiritual medium. Mashita's the brain and the brawn.
Yashiki unfortunately needs Mashita to get the investigation running - he gets easily waylaid by the cunning spirits.
It's different from NG, where Akira is the brawn and the spiritual medium, but his companions are the heart and the brain. Akira can focus on appeasing the spirits no problem, but he needs his companions to point him where to even start.

Why some people expect Yashiki to show professionalism when it's been only... three months since the events of DM1? Even he himself states that he's not an expert in this field, not that so-called "Spirit Doctor". Mashita could remain calm and guess who The Departed is almost straight away 'cause he has years of experience. And these years not only brought skills and knowledge, but also built his character. Unlike Mashita, Yashiki is losing it pretty quickly. At this point he's too stressed and too scared to think straight. In this state of mind he made a hell of a lot mistakes (but that's to be expected??). Not to mention that even though in a first place he was here for the investigation, all this time he was more into saving people? Because this is who he is, naive and altruistic. It's just too much for him??? He's in danger. Students are in danger. His friends are in danger. Daimon is in coma. Rumors about him and student council are roaming around. Students he must protect keep dying. And despite all of that he has to focus on suspecting everyone and search for The Departed.
Also want to add that in DM1 he was dealing with spirit's grudges, but in DM2 he has to do BOTH - deal with spirits (and he's doing it just fine) AND investigate The Departed identity (in the school among hundreds of students).
I kinda blame storytelling 'cause for the player everything is pretty obvious, but I think I understand how Yashiki must feel. Just let him chill in his mansion, brew coffee and learn how to use internet.

I do think they should go easier on Yashiki, after all like you said he is doing what he can, not only that but The Departed is a very clever spirit, it has been leading him in a goose chace all this time, but the other charecters havent been healping with that ether, they have mencioned it, but havent investigated on theyr own while Yashiki works on the notices (wich I doubt he could just ignore), and he has alsow exorcised many spirits that could cause truble, preventing more people from dying

For some people, I've heard it was something along the lines of him seeming more... I don't know, experienced or hardened? Pre Mary memory loss, but to me we never really knew that Yashiki, did we? Also, his sister was killed then and it doesn't seem like he has any other family. Mashita's more cynical and a realist. Yashiki's "soft" and more empathetic/sympathetic. So the threat of others getting hurt stresses Yashiki out far more than Mashita. Yashiki's caring nature is both his strongest and weakest point in the context of all this spirit hunting stuff.

Being in such a a stressful and hostile situation, alone for most of the time infact. Prioritizing saving the students, not wanting to involve his friend anymore than they all really have. Neglecting his own trying to deal with the spirits (that would have killed more people had he not saved them) and trying to solve a terrifying case. People should give him more credit. the word I'd use for Yashiki in the investigations so far is aimless, like he'll deal with the ghost at hand well but be too exhausted/injured/otherwise fucked up to properly follow-up or otherwise decide on any further actions to take other than just waiting for the next notice to arrive. not to mention his whole thing about not wanting to worry the friends (who have survived ghost hunting with him and know exactly how taxing it is) leading to him being essentially manipulated into venting to and emotionally relying on two highschool girls (who are probably the departed) is not his best moment, the man needs to either communicate more or keep around someone who won't take his bullshit lol

I love how so many of us are defending yashiki in the comments. Cut my man some slack he's sleep deprived, exhausted, emotionally manipulated, traumatized, having to deal with so many unfamiliar things.... This is just 4 months after the events of the first game and and yashiki is still tryna figure things out for himself.
His kind heart and naivete is his strength and weakness. His self sacrifice led him to isolate himself further instead of relying more on his friends like he should've done. This goes to show he needs someone like Mashita, whose more logical, analytical and blunt, to balance him out.
Yashiki is a pathetic wet paper bag of a man in his mid to late thirties (haha) he's trying his damn best here

  • @kittine6060
    @kittine6060 2 месяца назад +228

I think Yashiki for the most part just kinda needs someone to be a guide for him lol. First Death Mark had Mary do that, and whenever she was unable to we had some character who had a connection to the next area - and thus spirit - we need to investigate. Without that Yashiki's basically flying blind and is a bit too passive (of a person) to figure out what he should do next. Hell even in this game 90% of the time it's Michiho or Douryou who have to tell him abt the spirits or whatever new rumor's come around. Man can't catch a break when he's on his own💀
(adding to this tho since someone made a good counterpoint regarding his passivity, is that Yashiki admits that he isn't an expert; only a guy caught in some terrible circumstances. But I think the game doesn't really highlight that? They focus a lot on Yashiki's own sense of failure and ppl comforting him about it, and not the fact that he's just inexperienced. Hence why a emotional support/directional guide, like the girls or Mashita, really help to compliment what he lacks, at least until he's good enough to stand on his own. Kinda like NG's bad end, when Yashiki only goes "damn, too late." when he saw Akira. Very different from this Yashiki)
It leaves me curious though for what the devs will do with this development of Yashiki tho, if another Death Mark ends up coming out. It's been honed into us time and time again that his altruism, while beneficial for saving spirits, often leads to his personal detriment and for even more spirits to close in on him. Mashita has to remind him constantly to stay grounded to his goal and not get carried away with the dead (they're in an actual marriage for real, The Departed could never)
And this isn't really a spoiler, but if you're ever curious Manly, the game has 2 DLCs; one is accessible in the Eng release, and another was for players who backed the game on the Japan Kickstarter. Idk if you'll be able to play the second, but I know there's a translation floating somewhere around RUclips, I suggest you go check it out once you're done!
And another thing: in the sidescrolling segments, the characters actually have different idle animations if you leave them alone for long enough. Kinda surprised that Manly didn't show em, because they're pretty cute :D

I kinda understand why"d some say Yashiki has been useless so far, but I also honestly can understand why hes written that way. Having just rewatched DM1+dlc+SHNG, I see that: 1) cannonically, there werent many deaths that Yashiki witnessed himself, so having to witness more and more people diying must have hit him hard mentally. 2) he's not a professional yet! this game takes place just a few months after DM1, so he doesnt have THAT much expiriense. 3) he's thrown in stressful situations constantly. Having to worry not only about the Departed, but also about random spirits constanly + having to suddenly work as a teacher + hostile work inviroment (thanks sakamoto) + having very little sleep/food... I think it all just comes down to him being a bit too amateur for such a touth case like this. Tho I agree with the point Mashita makes about being too trusting with Hime and Michiho. As soon as it was made clear that anyone in the school could be the Departed, Yashiki should have made a point to not yap about the case to them and NOT bring them to his home!

I'll be honest and say DM2/Shibito Magire seemed to have a lot of missed potential (e.g., sidescrolling element, particular writing choices, and, at times, the spirit designs), but I don't think Yashiki as a character is necessarily a portion of that. This is just weird rambling in defense of Yashiki, so feel free to take it with a grain of salt or disregard if wanted.
I want ya'll to consider that DM1 only happened about 4 months ago before DM2- where during that time, man was similarly misguided and being pulled into weird situations while trying his damnedest to NOT DIE. However, he had structure and guidelines he could actually follow, as well as important people basically grouped together to help him out. He also had a time limit to work around, which probably made him solely focus on more important things than really dilly-dally. Then he had several revelations to come to terms with.
Now, he's tasked with a situation that spiraled out bigger than he thought, it's no longer like the usual find out about ghost>gather things to face ghost>defeat ghost one-and-done situation (there's a root cause, but several hurdles to get to it). There's actual expectations from Konoe, appearances to keep up, faculty/students he has to worry over, and his friends' safety that he feels responsible for. On top of it, he's basically a naive, nervous wreck (at the time of DM2), and his train of thought often gets the better of him (e.g., Red Riding Hood DLC). If you were in his shoes, burdened with this many deaths/casualties and visions, you probably wouldn't be able to formulate a reasonable plan either- especially with the lack of sleep and proper care. The fact that the clues and such are obvious to US, the readers, are more likely just direction/storywriting issues than "Yashiki is stupid or useless."
But, yeah, if anything, Yashiki really, REALLY needs people to tell him to chill and not rush headfirst into situations just because he feels awful for them. Though I do get it, The Departed in DM2 was likely the first "big" case he got and caught him off-guard (dude literally sits in his mansion either working on or investigating stuff, probably rendered him with zero social skills to do work in a public setting). His markbearer friends are also generally busy so it's not like he can call them up on a whim most days. I'm still glad that the writers at least emphasized that his friends know Yashiki is a sopping wet middle-aged man who is both self-sacrificing and self-deprecating-but are perfectly understanding and willing to pushback on his more pessimistic thoughts.
tldr; Yashiki is still in the process of becoming his NG counterpart (5 years later), and DM2 emphasizes the growing pains of that.

The doll has been helping us so far, while Michiho and Douryou are the prime suspects, which leads me to believe that they didn't just happen to see the doll in the clock tower but were seeking it out. Adding on to the discussion regarding Yashiki in DM2, you could definitely say that the events of DM1 was Yashiki on tutorial mode. Mary acted as his teacher, his guide, and his emotional support when things went wrong. Even if she did lie to him to lead him down the wrong path. Like if you think about it, if Mary wasn’t so bent on playing with the Kujou heirs, and just left enough hints to get Yashiki started without making her presence known, Yashiki would’ve been similar to how he acts here.
There has also been a couple of mentions of what kind of relationship that Kujous had prior to DM1, and it appears like Saya Kujou also acted similarly, maybe less of a teacher/guide but being that emotional support and logical side for him that he lacks. In one way, Yashiki has lost two major pillars in his life in a very short time frame (even if one of them was evil) and is still floundering because of it. The Mark Bearers offer that support he needs to get by, but he is still a far cry from standing on his own two feet.

Suppose Karma was bound to eventually hit em. That Grudge from that wedding was so powerful it practically wrecked the village populace and carried onto the Academy.

I wouldn't call Yashiki "dumb" or anything, to a degree I think I understand his mindset. Since Spirits are always dangerous all of the time, I wouldn't be surprised if his justification for letting himself get tangled in all these other cases was to prevent them from becoming as powerful as The Departed someday, since these sociopathic shits keep turning their school's suicide victims into ghostly horror stories (except Mr. Castle Doctrine Kokkuri).
That being said, I would definitely say that Yashiki is too soft to carry out such a long Spirit case. His heart bleeds for sob stories and that's exactly why Mashita (or someone like him) needs to keep his ass on the straight and narrow.

He's still inexperienced, mostly likely still traumatized and getting his bearings back. Not to mention he's mostly alone without support for the entire time (we're not counting the rest the mark bears when helping to investigate) in a hostile, stressful environmental. He's naive, far too empathetic, self-depreciating and he cares far too much for others than himself, but he's human and I'm surprised he hadn't snapped earlier when most y'all would in such a situation. Hm. I've been thinking something for a while, but chapter 6 truly cemented that idea for me. The knowledge between the player and Yashiki in this game has been differing greatly when it comes to The Departed and its (probably) obvious identity, and it's been both frustrating and understandable. Just by seeing the attitude and the weird circumstances surrounding Michiho and Douryou you can see they're not ordinary cursed students that are suffering The Departed's consequences; they're clearly involved and it's frustrating to see Yashiki being oblivious to all of it. Why is he so lenient to the circumstances and to these two? Why is he not questioning these things? Why has he been so passive to the main objective of this case all this time? Everything that seems obvious to us is not perceived by Yashiki and I can comprehend the frustration, but I do believe it shows that the game is staying loyal to his character and the mental state he's in after the events from the first game. He constantly underestimates himself and his abilities, and he is also sometimes slow to grasp things rationally despite his quick way to understand others due to his empathy, so Yashiki needs someone to give him directions. He needs other people to help him confirm what to do and what direction to follow in order to know he did the right thing. "It seems like I made the right choice." This was true even before he was "Yashiki": he depended on his sister and even let her be the head of the family, he stepped down on his position to give it to her and let her handle these things. In the first game he depended on the mark bearers, mostly Mashita yes, but also Mary. That's why her "death" and true identity is still impactful to us and to him as well. Yashiki depends on other people because he can't handle responsability well, that's why he seems quite detached when he's held accountable by Konoe and Mashita. Or at least to me it seems that way. It's curious to me how the responses to Konoe after being scolded by him are only apologize, protest or remain silent. He might feel responsible for the deaths, but I believe his self-pity is what stops him from truly feeling accountable for all of this.
I liked how Mashita didn't justify all the way that Yashiki potentially killed Michiho just because he was controlled by The Departed. These kind of situations are mostly written off like "yeah I forgive you it wasn't your fault", when the person still did the action anyways and should feel at least some responsability. Seeing the reaction of the people around him to his pasiveness to this case, it seems that everything is intentional to a potential change in character at the end of this game. I do hope Yashiki has a great character growth in here. If I remember correctly, I think Mashita foreshadowed something about this at the end of the Red Riding Hood DLC. Maybe he starts being more active and leading in future spiritual cases or recognizes his inability to handle these things alone and depends on Yasuoka, Mashita or Daimon to guide him through these cases. Who knows. Maybe none of these really.
I also hope this translates to him putting limits to others because even if I like that the game is shaped with Yashiki's mentality in mind despite to our frustration, I don't like how he lets Michiho do as she pleases with him and lets her.... curious comments slide lmao. It's also interesting the decision of letting Yashiki open up to these two random students about his feelings and being comforted by them instead of the mark bearers who he knows 4 months ago and should trust them more to open up to them about these things but whatever. It was a choice. It was also a choice the characterization of Michiho and Doryou here but I will refrain from saying something stupid if they both end up being The Departed together 🤕🤕 which would justify a lot. It already does with Michiho anyways.
I can't believe we're already near the end though... I've been waiting so long for this game I don't want to let it go 😭 but I'm expecting to what will be the pay off here. I still have a lot of thoughts already and seeing everyone's theory has been really entertainting, so we will see.

I know Manly uploaded the finale already but I haven't caught up with that yet so no spoiler pls, but I agree with your take about Yashiki's attitude toward the student coucil girls. It's just feel weird to me, like although at least the adults (Yashiki included) were somewhat wary about student-teacher relationship, Yashiki still let those two girl (mainly Michiho) actively flirt with him, way until Douryou stated that Michiho had been in love with him and then Yashiki just said "but student-teacher is wrong" bla bla. Like, he's so oblivious to those situations that it makes me feel frustrated lol. And then the suggestive, fan-servicy CGs of schoolgirls make it worst. I'm not blaming Yashiki's incompetence or anything, it's just the game's storywriting and fan-service are really weird here, although they were doing just fine with NG? That michiho part really caught me off guard… but I really liked Yashiki’s stance in the drawing! Whatever the hell was going on with him, the artist did it right
1:29:52 the idea of them being the departed and michiho just getting up from the ground and walking off is a funny scenario to think of
1:37:53 he really doesn’t know… the cut to his expression after they tell him cracks me the hell up. But it’s also just as said; Mashita is the brains of the group, and thinks of the things Yashiki would think without him having to voice them. They are the real marriage indeed
But overall, it’s kind of shocking but not at the same time? Michiho has always had the big red arrow on her as The Departed, so much so that it almost feels like bait, yet also not. I can’t wait to find out more. Was she really possessed at this time, or was she dead from the start, is her friend the other spirit…

    SPOILER for theory:
Michiho is totally the Departed. She became the Departed when she first encountered the Bridal Doll, and I think her soul is trapped inside of it. This is why the doll (known for being the Uber Evil Antags of the series) has actually been helpful to Yashiki so far. That's the original Michiho.
Douryou could be involved, but I'm actually leaning towards her being innocent. You could say they're both representing the two different gods, but I don't think that's the case. The original ritual called for the deities to exchange vows with one another, so I think the Departed (insect god) thinks that Yashiki is the second god... or is maybe trying to defy the original marriage arrangement? Hence the repeated use of the phrase 'true husband'. The Doll (Michiho) also tried to help Yashiki save Douryou, which I don't suspect would have happened if she was aware that Douryou was also evil/possessed.

    • @videogamergirls
      @videogamergirls 2 месяца назад +1

On the dual-god point: something I thought was interesting in the last episode was in the good end when Hiroo was talking to Yashiki in the car home about saving people, and the answer Manly gave (saying "but still..." when told we can't save everyone) prompted her to respond "So you believe you can be a god, huh?" In the first game, there's an option you can pick when talking to Moe at the start of the game that foreshadows the fact that Saya is actually our sister (if you pick "relative" when asked what our relationship is); I wonder if this line is foreshadowing the concept of someone thinking Yashiki is a god or can act as one? I thought it was a weird response because it's obvious Yashiki's "but still" was supposed to mean "there has to be something more to be done than letting people die", but the emphasis was specifically drawn to the god aspect of it.
I definitely agree with you that Michiho is trapped in the doll-- I wonder if it's even a bodyswap of sorts, where the Departed originated in the doll and was broken by the girls when they went inside, enraging her and causing her to frantically try to regain her beauty in time for whatever wedding she's been waiting for? I'm sure the actual grudge that created her is much worse than accidental damage (I can't tell if it's a long string of events that built up her rage over the century or if it was one horrific act in M Town that spawned the whole thing), but something like that would definitely set off an unstable spirit.
As for Douryou: I'm leaning toward her being innocent because I think you're right that Michiho wouldn't be helping her if she were possessed, but there's something that I've been wondering for a while: what exactly is Douryou's curse? In the first game, the mark given by a spirit meant almost certain death at the hands of whatever spirit had given it. For the second game, people were more marked by Kakuya's calling cards iirc (haven't had the chance to rewatch NG yet) and it also meant the same, and this time people seem to be marked for death by the notices. But Douryou has an actual mark, and since Michiho is confirmed to be the Departed (or at least I don't think they'll go back on that aspect at this point)-- so far, she's only been targeted once, and outside of that and losing her friend (which, if she's innocent, only just now occurred) not much seems to have happened to her. If she hadn't told us that she was cursed, I don't know if we would have even thought that (at least in-universe). I doubt a curse from the Departed is simply aesthetic. I wonder if her curse is something latent, like the Departed is able to do something or use her as a pawn at some point? Though, if any spirit can give a curse-- and if Michiho has a similar power level as the Departed, since they're entwined as shown by the double transformation, then maybe the spirit that cursed Douryou was actually Michiho as soon as she died (hence "the doll cursed us"), and it's actually something positive?

"Can't a ghost just like me, without the whole eating thing?" - the short answer is "no", the long answer is this: it's a common thing in paramormal practices to see all living things as relaters of energy, as in, everything you see is either a provider or a consumer. While you are alive, your body is a provider, and your consciousness is a consumer. However, if your soul doesn't find closure after death and refuses to dissipate peacefully, you'd need to find yourself another provider of energy in order to stay active. Most ghosts scare people as means to somewhat supplement this need (and that is also true of some living, go figure - ever dealt with so called "energy vampires"?), and this is also why a common sign of places inhabited by ghosts is that they are colder than they suppose to be - heat is a form of energy too. But the more active a ghost is (or wants to be) the more energy it needs, and vengeful spirits do want to be very active, they have avenging to do after all. So it's no wonder their interest in spiritualy-charged protagonist is purely gastronomical, imagine yourself have a VERY taxing job and then seeing a huge juicy burger just sitting out there on a table.

    What a chapter!!!
With the confirmation from checking Michiho's room, it seems pretty clear now that Michiho and Hime are (likely) representatives of the 2 gods mentioned in the town Lore (Mushibito being Michiho), they probably died together at the clock tower and Yashiki's supposed "murder" was the real Michiho's corpse. Hime even mentions the idea of there being 2 clock towers and the hiding of the bodies has been her theory for awhile now?
Based off the artwork from the last time the Doll was shown, its put back together but still cracked where Hime has her mark.

Though we only get that one line about Douryou reminding him of her, since she passed only months before the events of this game and was implied to be pretty close to him as well as a fellow powerful spiritualist, I think there's grounds for an interesting interpretation that he's somewhat falling back on them subconsciously as little sister substitutes for Saya.

The real horror of this game is having to deal with students confessing their love to you (or their friend's love for you anyway).
    ---
People criticize Yashiki for getting "distracted" by investigating the notices instead of the Departed, but like ... what else was he supposed to do? If what happened to Izumi is to be believed, then ignoring the Departed's notices would've just lead to Yashiki being the next victim for "failing" their trial. In addition, ignoring the spirits would likely have lead to them hurting more students later on, whether on their own or as part of the Departed's trial for their future "husband".
I also disagree with Manly's claim that Yashiki is useless without Mashita. Mashita is smart, yeah, but there were times in the first Death Mark where he was wrong. Not to mention that Yashiki has been able to solve the cases perfectly fine after Mashita left. I think Manly's favouritism towards Mashita is starting to cloud his judgment a little bit here.

Agree. Manly looooves mashita, but he needs to know that mashita and yashiki make up for each other's weaknesses. They're best as a duo. Yashiki isn't totally useless either.

It's obvious that Michiho is part of the departed but the questions is how? Was she just possessed? The way she acts is still very similar to a human with memories, personality and everything. If the departed was able to so effortlessly replace her, I don't see why they wouldn't have also tried hiding her tendencies for her room. I'm suspecting that the departed is having some influence or influencing her during certain times.

SPOILERS FOR THIS EPISODE. putting my predictions below before I watch last ep.
The red doll is used to trap The Departed. When the girls discovered the doll in the clock tower, The Departed body swapped with Michiho essentially and that is why the doll is trying to help Yashiki. It's Michiho in there. This also could explain why the doll is being repaired as The Departed gets stronger. The Departed is trying to reseal the doll so Michiho will be contained inside like The Departed was. The only thing I cant figure out his how this will possibly tie into there possibly being 2 Departeds. Perhaps both were in the one doll and were both body swapped into the teens?

so what I gather here is that 1. Yashiki is a dormat, doesnt know how to put boundries, and can't multi-task 2. this man needs a therapist stop talking to teenagers about ur trauma like i get you but also please no 3. he is like that one robot art piece that tries to save itself from being broken by pushing oil away from itself but fails.
there are also many good points in the comments about why Yashiki might be written so frustratingly. Like this takes place after DM1 after three months of which he lost his sister, find out ghosts are real, and having to deal with many life-or-death situation. I wish he was written with better choices, but for what he's been through and his mid-almost-end-of life crisis? They make sense. Also I feel like Yashiki has not had time to process his feelings at all I mean he wasn't given any time at all. He hasn't mourned the spirit's he had saved nor the lives that were lost. Every spirit has an absolutely gut-wrenching story, having to hear stuff like that over and over during like half a year? It'll distress anyone. Plus no training in detective work at all. Yes he's useless in that aspect but that's a skill to be trained. He has the natural abilities but lacks the actual effort and experience that one should have when dealing with high stress situations. And honestly yeah I expected Yashiki to be more self-assured after that one ending of NG. it's very annoying how he's kind of like well a doll or puppet, being forced to act because of someone else. He's so reactionary in DM2 and when he lost his memories in DM1 which is completely different from the vibes we get after the end of the 1st game. His past self tried to place preventative measures while current yashiki is decidedly not doing that. ( though I'm pretty sure the reason why he's so reactionary is because his preventative measures failed and reactionary measures was all he had)

I'm glad Mashita and Konoe came out and said it. Yashiki has been a useless wishy-washy lump this whole time. I could forgive it in the first game because he had amnesia and didn't know he was from some super ghostbusting bloodline and neither did the player, but seriously Yashiki, your sucking is costing lives here.

@@gaminggoddess85I would less say character assassination and more trying to emphasize their different approaches.
Yashiki easily gets distracted by the small details in the moment. In the first game, he was also tugged along from case to case, focusing on just surviving the night and that has to be good enough.
Wich actually helps him pick out the details needed to put a spirit to rest. As competent as Mashita is, I don't think he would be able to do the same. Mashita would get someone killed by not exorcising the spirit properly.
Yashiki is empathetic, emotional and a pushover, to be blunt. He would probably do better as a spirit therapist, really xD
Mashita on the other hand has experience with investigations, and is not nearly as easily distracted. He is more focused on the whole, and a lot more driven than Yashiki. He does not care about manners or appearances, he will get results.
While Yashiki is emotional, Mashita is logical.
Lost in the details opposed to focused on the end goal, solving the immediate problem against solving the entire case.
Putting the spirits to rest opposed to pissing them off enough for them to show xD
Both are needed for a case to be successful.
Yashiki needs someone to bring him back into focus, and Mashita needs someone who can actually understand the very emotional spirits on their own level. Mashita would probably just shoot them if he could xD
In the first game, it also helped that Yashiki did not need to spend any time trying to find the potential victims, they came to him. With that time not wasted, investigating was easier.

    • @gaminggoddess85
      @gaminggoddess85 2 месяца назад +2

@@tmpwow4282 That was where the "sloppy writing" question was directed, so yes I did? One could explain it as dumb scared kids being dumb and scared I guess, but it wasn't particularly like Yashiki had been expending much effort to explain the situation to the Departed's targets or reassure them so they don't run straight to their doom.

Lowkey sad that (so far) we have yet to get any characters from NG making an appearance. While I enjoy the idea that Death Mark could just be an ongoing series of Yashiki solving unrelated spooky ghost stories, I thought we'd have this greater plot involving the first two games' antagonists.

      @hasashikisara 2 месяца назад +5

@@Hennichell I think in this episode, when people come up with doll-speculations about the 1st headmaster's Red Doll, they also refer to a doll made after sacrificed girls, which might be a nod towards the Screaming Author - Miroku case where he made dolls out of little girls for Kakuya to play with and appease her, but I could be wrong. Thought it might be the case, because the 1st rumour with the Doll from the European family might refer to Mary. Either way, I agree, I wish there was more NG stuff drizzled in the plot, even if the game takes place 5 years after Death Mark.

@@hasashikisara Yeah, even if small things - like, Himeko's personal item, the Favorite Novel, it could say it was "written by renowned author Miroku", for example (in a way it would make sense Himeko wouldn't like Miroku's novels for their dark thematic, but I'm starting to think she's not the scaredy-cat she presents herself as, and it could serve as a discreet hint that she has something weird going on with her)

I really thought Douryou is going to be the doll (I still see the resemblance), but if the Departed is a twin god, then it probably makes more sense for her to be another aspect of the Departed. But if Douryou turns out to be the doll-- I'd be lowkey happy that I called something right lol.
At first I was like, "Michiho is too obvious. She's got to be a red herring, right?", but then they started trying to direct suspicion away from her, which makes her even more suspicious (the whole "oh I trust them so much! They give me hope" thing from Yashiki). If they had never done that, then I'd still be "no, she's too obvious". But to be fair, Michiho is REALLY suspicious. I still think they should have held off the "the Departed is hiding as a human" info for a bit longer, so that we can have this realization a little bit later (or for the smart/savvy people, they can feel proud for suspecting Michiho even before the info is revealed). Just let people say "the Departed is here", and we can assume it meant the spirit is here, and then someone can correct us "No, people are saying the Departed has been blending in as a human!"
Although... who started this rumor anyway? How could anyone know the Departed is taking a human form? It's the doll who has been leaking information, I assume. I kinda don't believe Izumi would figure out that Michiho is the Departed either, unless Michiho revealed it herself. Just some strange details to me. Kakuta might have been blackmailed by Michiho though, but he might not actually know she's the Departed. It's just Izumi who claimed to know who the Departed is as a human, right?
And funny observation: I think I saw more views for the next chapter than this one. Did some people skip this chapter? To be honest, it also took me like two days to get through the previous chapter. Was pausing and resuming for later rather than watching the whole thing in one setting.
