This is probably the most dramatic and terrifying pieces of Tsunami footage I’ve seen, rarely does footage capture the scale of the wave height. Thanks for sharing.
When the power of the wave breaks, there is a moment... is that it? Could something that size have just broken? But then brown earth erupts and trees are pulled down by the road at the edge of the field. It's not stopped. Time to go.
I'm glad you made this video. I've watched every video of the Japan tsunami out there, and this is the one I've always thought was the eeriest and most intimidating view of any of the waves. The way you can see it approaching so easily over that wall, and then the enormous height the wave reaches when it crashes into it are the best displays of true power the tsunami possessed. Scary stuff..thanks for the slow-motion views 👍
If you can see the effing wave from that distance, it is absolutely massive. I don't live anywhere near close to Japan but still 10 years later, I still can't get over the scale of this destruction.
Its hard to judge the height of that monster. It looks like something just so far beyond what that area would have ever anticipated. Like the biggest Waimea wave breaking on a 2 to 3 foot day... 🌊
This wave seems to be one of the largest that could be captured on video, near the Fukushima station. Minami soma prefecture is a village. In some videos, cars drove into the field to survive. Here the cars just keep going along the highway. It's a good idea to slow down the video and look at the monster. Thank you. my video on this topic is about watercolor with these waves, you can find it by name on the channel here- "Minamisanriku Tsunami 2011- art Tukin Aleksey 2020"
I use to dream of waves like this and I'm standing on the shore looking at it frozen terrified, R.I.P to the ones who lost there lives in Japan, and love and courage to the survivors ❤️

Height of wave before breaking: ~45 Feet (13.7 Meters) As Tall As The Hollywood Signs Height of wave immediately after breaking: ~33 Feet (10 Meters) As Tall As A 3-Story House Height of tsunami near cameraman: ~23 Feet (7 Meters) 3x The Height of a Christmas Tree How far inland the tsunami traveled here: ~2.23Km (~18 Feet above sea level) *You dont need to read this* The average height of a 2 story house in japan is probably ~18-20 feet, the houses are on land ~6 feet higher than the sea. so the wave is probably around 45 feet. Theres a photograph of the tsunami after it broke south of the video. It was compared to the 65 foot tree, and the tsunami was half its size, ~33 feet. In the original video, the person climbed the hill next to him and filmed the road (~20 feet above sea level), and the tsunami reached ~half the height of a car. so thats around 3 feet. Its confirmed again after the camera films the road after the tsunami recedes, the water leaving marks up the road (23 feet).
There's another vid that shows the massive height of the tsunami. If I can find it I'll share it here. It blew my mind the first time I saw it and it still does to this day.

Hi Yes I have watched a lot of the tsunami videos as well. Couldn't believe it when I found this footage. 👍

Imagine being there in person seeing that coming!

Those waves look like they are about 50 feet high. This is the biggest tsunami wave I ever seen in my life.
Footage totally deserving of the extra analysis. These aren't tornadoes; you don't get a dozen chances a year.
If possible, someone needs to get to the same location where this was recorded and try to figure out the height of that wave.

The interwebs says the peak wave was 126 feet high
@@Superdog-gr5yh yes there was a 40+metre one or 126 feet in Omoe.
@@cryingforbread I thought it looked bigger than this but I couldn't say for sure.
Wow that thing is massive
20m?
I think it must be somewhere around that height.
They cut off the video the moment before it envelopes the cars.
The channel didn't cut off, the cameraman decided to stop recording, you can see the cam pointing down before it stops
When you dangle a camera from the strap remember to nudge it once in a while or it will stop jerking around.
Those people need to turn right and just drive across the field :(
In those little cars?
They'd have a better chance running on foot
