Lei Xu is really exceptional and has a beautiful depth of feeling & sincerity in her voice. The orchestra plays beautifully, and complements that voice so much.
My God, what a voice!!!! I have never heard of her before (I'm embarrassed to say) but I'm so happy I found this. I will be looking for more of her recordings and performances. This is one of my favorite pieces so I tend to be critical, but she was flawless.
Best interpretation of this piece in my opinion, most sopranos, after the first part become very smug and proud, they make the performance to be about them. Here the Water-Nymph is humbled and field with desperation, this is what the interpret must transmit to me.

Japan looks like a breathtakingly beautiful country. I would love to visit some time. Nebraska is in the center of the United States. There are relatively few people in Nebraska compared to most other states, except for in the eastern part of the state. The capital is Lincoln, and the biggest city in Nebraska is Omaha. Many people out here in the countryside have never been to Japan, but some have. One of our artists, Barbara Takenaga, was born and raised in North Platte, Nebraska. Her family was Japanese American. She lives in New York now. We are doing fine, but there was severe flooding over large parts of Nebraska last spring, and many areas are still flooded. Our rivers are beautiful, but they can flood really badly. Thank you so much for sharing about Japan! 🌺🌼🌳

She is NOT amplified. Those microphones onstage are recording microphones, not amplifying microphones. There are NO loudspeakers on the stage. My biggest problem with her voice is that on certain notes, the vibrato is quite wide.
