Tremendous night, remember in well. My daughter was born in Raigmore Hospital and I watched this through a haze of cigar smoke and drams. Rooted for United as a Tic fan. RIP Ian Redford

Ian Redford was a superb player for every team he played for...what a performance from Dundee United that was. Imagine a Scottish team now going to play a top German side in their own stadium and getting a result like that

Timbuk2 fan here. Great United team did not concede a goal to Gothenburg in the final. The ball was outside the post but squirmed under the side net. Look it up on RUclips.

Last time they played rangers United had a decent team... Andy Robertson, Gauld, Armstrong, Ciftci, Makay Stevens. 3-1 in a. semi at Ibrox. Rangers much stronger now, but United would be up for it with Shankland. See you next season ;)

@sqwertery As a fellow Rangers fan I was also cheering for United in that game, the ones against Barca and the final - great times. Same for Aberdeen in their 83 cup winners cup win - I almost hit the roof when Hewitt scored in ET. Can't say I was equally pro-Scottish teams in Seville though....:)

IFK Goteborg were one of the best teams in Europe in the 1980s. They won the UEFA Cup twice and were very close to a European Cup final in 1986.

It is something that usually happens, when you think you have a more affordable rival, it is normal that you can fall into overconfidence.
It is true that Borussia and Barcelona were teams that had played and won several European finals, but Goteborg in the 1980s was also at a high level and could beat many big teams.

You haven't seen much football, Borussia Mëchengladbach in the 70's played 5 continental finals. In the 80s it was not so powerful anymore, but it was always a team that nobody wanted to meet on the road.
