    Breaching shot only affects single weapon shots, but that is single weapons per attack. With multi target you get the bonus on every individual target so long as you only fire one weapon at each of them.

      @Sic semper tyrannis single weapon, so an Awesome with a multitargeting breaching shot pilot can get the bonus on all three shots

      i usually use my heavy LRMs as well as big energy weapons and autocannons with the breaching shot.
      can be good with SRM6 too.
      sometimes coolant vent is more useful though...especially if your mech runs hot and uses smaller weapons. In hot biomes its very useful. I think ill get my base crew to have 6 lancers and 3 gladiators

    Some more things to keep in mind: in later missions you run into elite pilots and evasion is less valuable because their skills in gunnery are higher. You could bring faster mechs with defense gyros but they tend to be rather frail. Also. Juggernaut might sound cool but knocking an assault mech back one phase does ziltch unless the enemy target is a master tactition. Lastly. The leg mod that reduces dfa damage to your mech does a fixed amount reduction and not a percentage (correct me if I an wrong) but the damage to your mech is based on its weight. This means that the mods are better in lighter mechs but then again they might not have the weight to spare. Personally. I never use dfa because it leaves your mech unstable which is a stupid idea imho.

    • @ShadowcoastGaming
      @ShadowcoastGaming  6 лет назад

      Werner, thanks for the post and great points to keep in mind! And correct, reduction is a set damage amount (ie. reduce 30 DFA self-damage taken)!

      I'm still new & learning this game. Haven't finished it yet. My lance consists of 2 brawlers & 2 LRM boats. All my pilots have Bulwark, Sensor Lock, & Master Tactician. I want breaching shot, but that's in the gunnery tree. Any suggestions??

    • @ShadowcoastGaming
      @ShadowcoastGaming  6 лет назад +1

      Nice lineup and Master tactician becomes extremely powerful especially once you start getting Assault Mechs! I'd recommend you level up a Mechwarrior in gunnery to get Breaching Shot - if you multi-shot with a Mechwarrior with Breaching Shot, each Mech he fires at will get the Breaching Shot bonus for one of the weapons fired. This becomes important later on when Assaults either have Bulwark or Brace to mitigate your damage output. I like the Breaching Shot/Multi shot and bulwark combo if you like to run your Mechs hot (great combo for a sniping Mech) or with piloting (extra evasion is nice if you run your Mechs cool and can afford to jump jet each turn). Hope that helps, let me know how things work out! Also, love the brawler/LRM combo - great for farming/salvaging!

  • @PyroMancer2k
    @PyroMancer2k 5 лет назад +2

    I like the High Guns & Tactics combo. Tactics gives you Call Shot Mastery and with an AC/20 I have 18% chance to head shot so I typically get 1-2 per match. It's backed up by 2-3 Brawlers who go in hard hitting after opening sniper round. As each round I tend to try and snipe a different mech as no point in one shooting a mech that is near death already. Instead go for the untouched ones.
    The 4th mech in the lance varies depending on whatever is available as I try to cycle through my mechs as they go in for repairs while minimizing how much time passes. Currently I got 12 Mechs and 9 Pilots and can run all the missions in a system before all my injured mech warriors get out of medbay.
    Then travel contract to next system which gives some time to heal and repair. Basically I figure if your sitting around waiting for stuff to repair/heal your doing it wrong as that's wasting money.

    Breaching shot does not work on the first shot at a target, it works on the ONLY shot on the target. Breaching shot only procs (goes into effect/triggers) if you fire only 1 weapon at the target, if you fire more than one then none of the shots get breaching shot. This is one reason why multi target is in that tree, so you can use breaching shot and still use multiple weapons in that turn by shooting other targets as well, and you can do multiple breaching shots on different targets. It's also important to note that you should mate breaching shot pilots with mechs that have high dmg single weapons. A hunchback 4P is not a great choice (stock at least) as a med laser will only give you a breaching shot with 25 dmg while a mech with large lasers or AC20s will give you it with 40 and 100 dmg respectively. Course all this is situational anyways as breaching shot only applies to mechs in cover or braced.

    • @redelephantsdotnl
      @redelephantsdotnl 5 лет назад

      This tactic is great when a lance is in defense mode, and for the next round you want some openings. So you target your breaching shots at all the tanks; use your med lasers at annoying lights - not for damage but to get rid of the evasion pips.

    I am new to the Battletech universe and just completed my first run to victory. I saw your pilot skill vid and learned new things. I like this vid too but I *really* would like to see your recommendations for the early game since I am about to start a second run. I don't look forward to doing the prologue again... oh well. New campaign. Thank you. The reason I ask is that I won't have all those King Crabs and Battlemasters 😟 With warriors maxed on skills 😥

      Make your small mechs have one LRM5 and medium lasers. Avoid putting stuff in the arms, because they are weak in armor. 4 medium lasers are equivalent to a medium range PPC.
      Mechs are a mix of armor, speed and firepower (range and damage). Knowing how high or low each one is, will determine your strategy. If you are not familiar with the stats of the mech, you may download the wave one and two record sheets from the official website bg dot battletech dor com slash downloads slash
      These record sheets are used to play the tabletop version of the game. Range of each weapon is measured in units that are 30 meters wide. Movement points describe speed. 12MP are approximately 120kph. These record sheets help you to understand the stats without using trial and error.
      For example, a Locust is fast, but has little armor and firepower, make it run sideways as fast as you can and use it as spotter for indirect LRM attacks.
      Do not use too many weapon systems. For example, if you have one mech with LRM5 and another with LRM20 you may run short on ammo for one system and you will need to spend money on both. If instead of LRM20 you use LRM5 only, you can use ammo for both mechs and it is harder to run out of ammo.
      Commando is a decent small mech. A Jenner is a fast tough one. Panther is a good one, but it has the PPC in its arm, so if it loses the arm, it is done.

      I recommend to buy the tabletop game, first Battletech Beginner Box, and then Battletech a game of armored combat boxset. Battletech fan channel has a great visual guide for the rules, as well as a product catalog. Learning on tabletop will make your PC game easier. And you will enjoy a lot.

    Looks like you are doing a modded game (or maybe you are playing an older build of the game than I have); I've only played the base game with DLCs; not sure if anyone else mentioned this but Breaching Shot only applies in vanilla if you only shoot one weapon at the target. If you have Multi-Target which you have to have to get Breaching Shot you can shoot one weapon at each Guarded or other damage-reduction affected Mech from each pilot that has Breaching Shot. It doesn't matter how many weapons hit, it only matters how many you fired from that pilot.

    Breaching shot triggers when you only fire one weapon at an opponent, therefore you multishot your three main weapons at three targets with cover/bulwark and bypass the damage mitigation. Dunno if it applies to stab damage too

    I like to think of my Lance as two "wings" akin to fighter pilots.
    I have two pairs consisting of a Lancer (Gunnery 2/Guts 1) in either a LRM boat or Sniper, and a Vanguard (Tactics 2/Guts 1) that act as spotters/tanks/brawlers. Two of these pairs can split up and cover each other, or assist with Sensor Locking and scouting reinforcements.
    Master Tactician is better than Ace Pilot, because it allows you to use a heavier class of mech while still being able to do the Reserve double-attack with a heavier payload of damage. Combined with Bulwark after the second shot, you can do two alphas and then get 50% DR.
    Juggernaut doesn't really do much end-game unfortunately thanks to no Initiative 0 that you can kick Assaults into. The Pilot skills tend to be very meh in end-game as well. A Vanguard who levels up Piloting is arguably more deadly at Melee due to the ability to Reserve-Double Strike.
    The Vanguard Mechwarrior is probably the most versatile pilot build, and can make use of a variety of tactics and mech builds, while the Lancer is arguably the most deadly when combined with high damaging weapons.

    • @ShadowcoastGaming
      @ShadowcoastGaming  6 лет назад

      Thanks for sharing and tend to agree on the Vanguard and Lancer comments. I'm now recommending everyone level up at least 2 Vanguard (Tactics 2/Guts 1) Mechwarriors during the campaign!

    • @steeltrap3800
      @steeltrap3800 6 лет назад

      Given the Vanguard gets higher initiative, called shot bonuses and indirect fire penalty reductions, don't see why you'd put a Lancer in an LRM boat.
      With the exception of breaching shot, I'm increasingly of the view that the end game is better served by Vanguards for everything. Any of them can sensor lock, any of them can get entrenched with bulwark, and they all get called shot bonuses. The LRM boats knock mechs down, the others do accurate called shots.
      Not convinced evasion is all that valuable later in the game v bulwark's ability to reduce all damage by 50%.
      Gunnery and piloting will still get all the basic bonuses as they increase, and I'm not convinced their specialist skills are worth it once using heavies and assaults (remember the Vanguard will have higher initiative than enemy mechs of the same class, an important point in itself).

    • @Kaleban
      @Kaleban 6 лет назад

      Except for initiative and sensor lock, any Mechwarrior can get all the bonuses of Tactics as well, such as called shots and indirect fire.
      I like having Multi-shot enabled pilots in my long range units, whether direct fire or LRM to be able to destabilize multiple targets. And that is why I'm working up some Strikers to replace my Lancers, since from what I gather Breaching Shot does nothing for the Stability damage applied to targets.
      I have a feeling that four Master Tacticians, two with Bulwark on the front line and two with Multi-shot on the backline will be the most efficient builds. Just have to make sure the Strikers aren't focus fired and keep them moving. It's conceivable with +++ gear that two Strikers could knock over three mechs per round, with the Vanguards then coring/legging them on the ground. In that scenario Breaching Shot it pointless, allowing the whole lance to benefit from Master Tactician.

    • @steeltrap3800
      @steeltrap3800 6 лет назад

      Yeah, I see what you're saying. Have to wonder, however, if having your heavies and assaults go one initiative earlier than their equivalent opponents isn't telling. Means you can delay and then get all your heavies and assaults acting in initiative 2 before enemy assaults can act.
      I'm playing two campaigns, one with mainly Lancers and the other mainly Vanguards to see how it pans out. I certainly don't see the pilot skills as being especially important late game in the campaign as there are often enough opponents that they can remove your evasion chevrons.
      Cheers
