@@CockneyRebel1979 1967 was an explosive year in musical creativity but thanks to the internet we can still enjoy it’s reverberations! Besides being born in 1979 you’ve got youth on your side.Cheers.
Adored Paul as a kid. His face was plastered on my bedroom walls. Many years later my husband worked with him. I went to see one of the performances. What a blast. Privilege!!!
I was 16 y.o and living in Putney in '67. what a time, what music, what a privilege. And the girls backing vocals on this song are as smooth as silk. Absolutely beautiful
I adored Paul and this song was especially poignant on my young life. Little did I know that years later my husband would do live sessions for Paul. What a blast.
I adore this song. My folks had it on a 45 rpm in the 60s. When they allowed me to use their records in the 70s I used to love playing this. It's beautiful. God bless you Paul Jones.
@ 45rpmSINGLES Thanks for posting! Brilliant singer he was and is; just the other night he sang the blues on a Jools Holland thingmediddle; on some channel I happened upon in front of tv, absolutely gobsmacking, the way he sang. Privately I wouldn't trust him for a minute to take care of my old dogs, however, don't know why. Greetings from The Netherlands
Good track. Recommended by Mozzer's biog. which is why I listened to it. The line 'I'm not the man you think I am' ended up in Pretty Girls Make Graves'. A classic Smiths track of coarse !! Peace y'all. Rxx
what a classic song ! think Mike Leander wrote Early in the Morning too... another classic. Mike was a big cricket enthusiast too sadly he died a while ago .
After Elvis Presley and the Beatles and the Stones Paul Jones was the next biggest star, with Manfred Mann also and with his own solo career selling Millions.
My Dad wanted a Son, and oh Boy what a failure I was to be born a girl, he never wanted me, so this song means a lot , only should sing, I've been a bad bad girl,
Written and probably produced by Mike Leander who went on to co-write all of Gary Glitter`s hit songs in the 70s. I dont know if Gary subsequently recorded a version this song....
Fabulous images! Notable points: At 1:22, translation of the Spanish - Taken from the comedy musical Hair. Hmmmm....not really a comedy, methinks. At 1:36....Boyfriends by computer. Very prescient!
I remember seeing the film Privilege in the cinema , lots of gay bondage as I recall mixed with political overtones, very brave as , homosexuality was only just about to become legal in the UK , don't think its ever been on TV..
What a blast!1967 was a great year for music.
Sadly, I wouldn't know, having been born in 1979. It'd appear that I missed out big-time!

Paul Jones was a bad boy because when he left Manfred Mann they had more success with mike d'abo .
Wtf is this cook from skins
And why the fuc* the singer sounds like David bowie?
he was getting hits well before Bowie was around, it's just a very 60s sound a lot of singers did that style but Paul Jones was one of the best
@Nicholas Sunshine Pasty You're so right Nicholas, all the best from a fellow traveller.
