I agree with all you said in this video. I have been RVing over 35 years, have owned small & medium size class Cs, and TTs 17 to 34 feet. I currently have a Casita and Bigfoot TT. I can go everywhere a large RV can go… but, a big one can’t go everywhere my little ones will 😁

All depends on where you want to go camping. These big rigs can't get into anywhere other than a trailer park which ends up being just another city . A bit pointless really. Stick with your smaller rig and enjoy nature

This video is fun and informative. I recently got my first trailer pop up camper, an Aliner Ranger 12'. Lots of windows and very spacious feeling, tall ceiling. Just me and my small dog and maybe my cats...who knows. So many beautiful places.

100% agree with you Randi! We just returned from a 3 week trip with multiple stops and love our Little Guy Max-perfect size for the two of us, we would never want something bigger! What we love so much is the flexibility and ease of backing and the spaces we can fit into plus all the windows! This is our first RV ever and we are so happy with our small camper❤

Our first camper was 23 feet, second was 23 feet, third was 26 feet, fourth camper is 20 feet. Smaller is definitely better for all the reasons you mention. Small is so much more simple and with that the fun factor increases!

Another vote for team small! We have a teardrop & a clam quickset tent. We also have a kick- a$$ shower, with the enclosure. I will admit, showering outside & of course, no bathroom can be a pain when you are cold! When we get tired of it, we can take the $$$ saved by boon docking, and apply it to a campground with bathrooms & showers, an overnight in a hotel (longer trips) or just do a truck stop shower. The ease of towing, RV storage & availability to go to more remote places...priceless. We have made focaccia, pizza, and baked potato in the campfire! Another pro tip for food...Costco canned pork, small can of green salsa or diced chili & pinto beans can make some great burritos!!!!!!! Thanks for your vid!

That is why they make all kinds of RVs, we personally like a larger rv for the room, ( nothing larger then 35ft), we have kids, grandkids and friends we travel with, (they have their own rvs) but if it is rainy or cold, we can still be together in one rv. We say, buy what works for you.

I agree with you. We love our little Rockwood Geo Pro 19FD. It has a full bath room with a tub and shower. The queen size murphy bed folds away during the day that gives us the space of a much larger trailer. We have everything a larger camper has. AC, oven microwave, stove, refrigerator, TV and more. We can maneuver into campsites that larger ones can't. When you pull a trailer you unhook your little house and have the tow vehicle to use to drive around for site seeing, dining and shopping. We travel from Pennsylvania to Florida every year and stay for weeks at a time. It's very comfortable. We thought we wanted a large Class A, but our little trailer has been a better choice. You may need a bigger RV for a large family, but for a couple, our little trailer has been the perfect choice. We usually stay at one place for at least 5 days.

Started with Nucamp 320, way too small ( 6ft ). Upgraded to Nucamp 400. The worked well. Still wanted more space so got 22ft NASH 17K. Perfect. Sold it and now building out Sprinter 170 to be more agile and elinate the hassle. Different strokes for different folks. 😊

I have a humble Citroën Aircross Stealth where I put my batteriers, my bed, my kitchen & my small DIY furniture for the waters tanks & a small trailer where I put my recording studio, another eventual bed, my motorbike & my bathroom. We have a 2022 Little Guy Mini Max that we bought in 2023. Our longest trip was this spring for 61 days, putting 11,000 miles on our 3/4 ton truck with cap (for extra storage and we used to pull a 5th wheel). Didn't take to long to figure out how to sleep 2 adults and 2 dogs manageable. The refrig is actually bigger than we had in the 5th wheel we had, and we carried a battery powered refrig/freezer (ran as a freezer) the whole trip recharging the battery pack nightly normally. Wife loves her own toilet and wet bath, and we carry a small dehumidifier that helps a lot. We do miss the oven a little but carry and used a toaster oven outside on a good day to re-stock the freezer with mainly her breakfasts.

We have a 17' Keystone Hideout. Going on 5 yrs. with it and love it. It has a full bath across the back, a large bed and kitchen area. We camp between 4 days to seven weeks. We mostly dry camp at state and federal parks. Can't see getting anything larger. Spend most of my time outside enjoying nature and wood carving anyway. We have our own place when we go to visit our kids and go to bed and getup when we feel like it.

I agree with her, the only caviot is when you are 6'4", I can't stand up in most of tiny trailers. I settled on a 7x22' micro minnie because it was the smallest I could fit in. If I was shorter, I definitely would buy one of these types of trailers.

I’ve always been enamored with small cozy spaces, so I’m team small! Currently IP of building a square-ish drop that won’t leave me feeling like I have to squat to get dressed. Simple and small doesn’t equate to claustrophobic for me. I don’t need bells and whistles. I need comfortable sleep in a dry space, easy to tow, and ready to go in 30 minutes or less. I also like to try new places. I’m not a rent for a season person, kudos to those that do.

I've never owned any camper. I'm researching. My reason for thinking small is parking and being able to get places. I live small so I don't need big to travel. If I needed a house, I'd just stay home. I'd think a larger camper is for extended stays in a park. But that's not my plan. If it was, THEN I'd go bigger.
My plan is to enjoy the outdoors so the indoors is for sleeping etc.
    Thanks for the breakdown!

Hi Randi, my wife and I will always be Team Small Camper! We love our T@B
    400. And no we will never go bigger. It's perfect for state parks or large open rv parks. Personally we love small parks. More secluded. Our longest stay has been 4 nights but plan to go longer once my wife retires. Thanks again for sharing your experiences. Were still fairly new to the "camper" life but love it!

My wife and I and our border collie took a 5 month road trip in our 18 ft travel trailer. Some details that help on a long trip is a north/south bed and a dry bath, but these were luxuries that we could have survived without. Also we did a lot of boondocking on our trip and I can’t imagine finding BLM campsites with a huge rig. We were told that for sure after a long trip we’d want something bigger. The only change we plan to make is to turn the oven into additional storage. We love small, and love your videos.

My wife and I started out in a 18’ to see if she liked camping. It didn’t take long to realize that! We UPGRADED to a 32’ living room slide. Then to another 32’ LR and bedroom slide. After she passed away it was too big for just me. Downsized to a 26’ but was still a little bigger than I wanted. I’m now in a 20’ with “small “ slide, full dry bath, queen bed, 10cf fridge and plenty of storage! It’s perfect for solo camping like you said I can park it almost anywhere including my driveway!!

I bought my Max with the main idea I wanted to enjoy the outdoors. If I had a larger one, I would spend more time inside. Also, the worst thing about campers today is the fit and finish. I can’t afford a $100 K Airstream. My Max was $35 K back in the day and has been paid off for years. As far as the black tank, I agree. Can’t do much longer than 3 days in the Max, but I take my portable RINO tank. Empty my black tank right at the spot and you can pull it with your truck hitch to the dump station.

Thanks, Randi, for all your great points of owning a small camper. Bad news, we sold our Oliver and are camperless. 😐 It was a sad day but it was time to let a new couple enjoy camping in our, I mean, their Oliver. I still love your videos and hope to see you again. We still travel to Happy Acres in Angola for meet ups. We have grown to love so many friends we have made on our camping trips! ❤

Randi, you are so right! I am in a 21' Class C. I swapped out my microwave (HUGE cabinet) with space for a blender, food processor, Griddler, pro waffle iron (the kind that flips). I also have room for a toaster, and a set of two small (2 quart) slow cookers (one for dinner, one for dessert)! I have an oven but haven't used it. I use the stove every now and then. I find that I can cook nearly anything in slow cookers - just line with parchment paper and layer paper towels between the pot and lid (to absorb and moisture), and you can make deep dish or 6" frozen pizzas (get them at Dollar tree for 2 for $4 or Walmart 2 for ~$2.50 (customize with your own toppings, aioli or pesto)!!! But they are so great for crustless quiche or pasta bakes!
Plus, small campers can be easy to maneuver and fit *perfectly* into spots at campsites for the ideal view!

We sold our Little Guy Max. I was good quality. It was easy to tow. Is was too small on rainy day. One week in it was too much for us. We move up to a Rockwood Mini lite. With a larger slide. That made a world for difference. No more claustrophobic feeling. For is 21 ft is perfect.

Big down side of a smaller single axle trailer, is the cargo capacity weight allowed. Often its only 500 to 900 pounds. Not nearly enough when you factor in water and grey and black tanks.

I agree - We've pulled our little 2019 T@B 320 Boondock all over this country. My wife and Border-collie both love our small trailer and we eat as well as anybody in a 5th wheel

I started out with a 9 metre (28 foot) A Class. After a year of full time living, I moved down to a 7 metre (21 foot). After a year full time in that, I went to a 4.38 metre (14 foot) caravan, which I have lived in for the last 5 years. In there, I have a permanent full size inner sprung double bed on a slat base. My dinette converts into another double bed if required.
My shower is so good that I don't use campground facilities even when they are available. My black tank is the European cassette system, so I don't even need to move the caravan to empty it....just slide out the cassette and take that to the dump station. I have 150 litres (40 gallons) of fresh water and 150litres of grey water in onboard tanks. My battery is a 200a/h lithium and I have a 370 watt solar panel and a 2,000 watt inverter. My tow vehicle also chargers my caravan battery when driving.
My kitchen has three burners, an oven and a grill. I am off grid for around 40-45 weeks a year.
New Zealand has a lot of narrow, twisting roads and I regularly get to places normally only accessed by vans.

Nicely said Randi, we love our Escape 🎉21C. While it is smaller than most, it is so comfortable and the Quality is great. We’ve just stayed 3 weeks with our Son’s family, but stayed in the camper in the driveway. So we didn’t get woken up when the kids were crying in the middle of the night. On the way home we are going to find some of the campgrounds you stayed at in Michigan on Lake Superior. Even though it is a little cool, we will toasty warm in our small camper! Safe Travels Randi

A lot more campsite availability and super easy to tow. It has a north south KINGSIZE bed...6 cubic ft. Fridge...heating air conditioning
. and spacious dining table. As far as grey and black tanks go...we don't use them ..we use bottled water and Porta Potties... never have to move the RV...and they can be dumped anywhere..even in a toilet...yup....no more dump station line ups ! ! If we need more space ...we use a good quality kitchen tent !! PLUS we love ❤❤ the European style windows that can be left open in the rain 😂😂 smaller is BIGGER

Quality build and materials are EVERYTHING. As a senior RV tech, I've seen lots of units from every price range. So sorry to see a "high end" 5th wheel using the same garbage hardware, hinges, closers, and appliances, that constantly fail in the smaller sizes. I would seriously buy an RV with a bad fridge, AC, heater, and stove/oven. I'd replace them ALL with reliable and better systems that also cost LESS.

Small trailers are overpriced when compared to similar built bigger trailers. Less materials are being used, often missing or smaller conviences in them. I would bet that the profit margin on smaller trailers is higher than most other trailers.
I have been shopping for a small trailer for the last year, and the prices are ridiculous for what you get, especially when looking at a smaller toy hauler.
