Hey Class47Peter, I am returning to the craft after a lot of decades away so visiting many channels for updates, tips and ideas as a lot has changed since my day. This is a great looking loco and good to hear your thoughts. I am working on setting up my channel and content will arrive soon. Will be back for more later.
An excellent review there Peter, pity about the firebox glow and I definitely agree with you on them making it better for DC users, from the review I think the locomotive looks great and definitely something that would look good on any layout, I think it was worth the wait.
An uncle was a premium apprentice at LNER Darlington, working on these locomotives, he also went to St Peters School and was invited when the school nameplate was fixed to a later diesel locomotive.
It looks to me as if the smokebox door/boiler front has not been fitted correctly, as it seems to be protruding - hopefully this can be fixed by gently pushing it back into the boiler barrel?
I have just received the dcc sound version, and find the firebox glow to be not that bright on dcc either. It is a lovely model, but took its time coming. It was first announced five years ago, and I placed my pre-order three years ago. Very expensive but worth the money. I think the name plate is a bit gaudy. Did it always have it?
Hi Peter Hope you are well? Great review Honest review may I add. Mine as you know gotta go back cuz it missing the plastic rod to uncouple the loco and tender contection I was hoping for more rapido loco and tender contection. Mine is lovely and as you say runs fantastic I see your point on the name plates shame really I can see the opening fire doors as a gimmick Only my opinion Keep safe arp
Cheers Adi, yes I'm well. Hooe you are too Firebox doors ooening whilst nice are a bit of a gimmick. Still a shame the furebox glow is dim because I'd love to see a bright glow showing through the gaps of the doors
Sorry but you've missed so much that is wrong on this model. The rivets on the smoke box are in the wrong place because the smoke box door is not flush with the smoke box. There's also way too many rivets on the running plate! Boiler bands over scale. Interface of the boiler to the cab is also wrong. Valve gear is way over scale and basically lifted from previous versions. The V2 could have been great. Sadly it's far short. I would have liked many. I'm disappointed.

No, the smokebox door is correctly fitted, its a seperate fitting so there is a slight gap which i've seen on other models
Nice one Peter
Thank you

The loco was named at York in 1939
Interesting to hear that the firebox flicker isn't very bright on DCC either.
