The first guy to sing, is technically the bass Tim Foust with a sick 5+ octave range. The second guy to sing is Austin Brown who is hightenor, third guy (with beard) is Rob Lundquist also tenor, third I guy to sing is Chance who is baritone/bass with a 4 octave range. So they have a double bass ability. What you hear recorded is what you hear live, they may add or take away a couple things, but the actually sound is the same. I have been to 8 shows, others well into the double digits. What you hear recorded is not made pretty with electronic in the studio. They do try and make it more there style without completely losing the original.. The original by Cam, not bass heavy. They are extremely versatile in what they do, they also have originals they aren't just covers.

Michelle Jolly I actually think that rob is the highest tenor. Austin sings lead voice most of the time. I hope she sees these comments, because she didn’t comment at all on how home free mixed up all the voices. A specially the shifting of Tim from low base into tenor and our newest member (who I thought was baritone, but now I don’t know anymore 🤪) into base section!!! Very confusing for people who have followed their music, but they nailed it!!!

    • @garyblocker9135
      @garyblocker9135 6 лет назад +3

Michelle is spot on. Points: Austin's range goes far higher than Rob's and some of his full voice notes would require falsetto by Rob & others.
Chance replaced baritone Chris Rupp (usually with a hat/cap) and sings his parts in the group's prior arrangements. In recent arrangements, Chance can take bass part, enabling more lead melody parts by Tim.
Adam Rupp is the talented beatboxer who occasionally sings a low tenor for 5-part harmonics.
I enjoy reactions to Pentatonix & Home Free by those who aren't familiar with them.

This one is a little different from their usual sound. The bass singer is singing tenor on the 1st verse and throughout. The baritone does that low bass line. And the beatboxer absolutely killed it on the rhythm (I swear, I think he swallowed a drum set)!
You wanna hear more bass? React to "Hillbilly Bone", or "My Church".

This song was written and sung by a female country singer Cam. Of course, they could have changed it more and put in more bass but I think the lack of bass was done on purpose to show their amazing range and versatility. As you have read from others Tim has a 5-octave range and he has said that he didn't use his falsetto until he hit :28. To those of us who followed his solo work this was no surprise but to many, it was a huge surprise. They also used the opportunity to showcase Chance ( who has only been with the group since 2016) he usually sings baritone but has a 4 octave range and sang bass with his previous group. Chance usually sings the bass line when Tim sings lead. Austin naturally sings high tenor and Rob surprised me a bit by going higher than he usually does. Both of them have a 3+ octave range. And what can a say about their beatboxer but that he is a "freak of nature" as the guys call him. :) There is so much talent in these 5 guys but because they sing Acappella it's sometimes hard to hear just what each of the guys are doing because so much of it is in the background. I would love for you to react to Thinking Out Loud / Let's Get It On ( an Ed Sheeran and Marvin Gaye mash-up)
hillbilly bone, blue ain't your color, I can't outrun you and life is a highway

Thank you so much for doing such a great reaction to Home Free! Tim the guy front and center that started the song has a five-octave range, he is actually their bass singer. Chance the guy in the back that was doing bass is also a bass singer but normally sings baritone. Adam back left is obviously the beatboxer. Rob front left sings tenor and Austin front right is a high tenor. Lots of Home Free videos on RUclips. I hope you will react to more of their stuff...so much fun!

The guy who started the song is the bass. He is Tim and has a 5 octave range. The guy on the right is Austin and he is the high tenor and has a soulful country twang. The guy on the left with the beard is Rob, another tenor with the purest voice. Singing bass in this video is the baritone Adam Chance and in the back on the left is Adam Rupp, founding member and probably the best beat boxer in America. Check out Ring of Fire, Butts Remix and their 19 song mashup. Love the reacts and comments

Basically, the one singing base in this song was called in to replace a member that wanted to focus on his solo career for a while. Before, Tim was the only one who could sing low, so he didn't get to show his full range very often. The new guy can sing low, and Tim is teaching him to sing even lower, so they both can shine a bit more. Tim was showing just how high he can go in this song, but he's definitely a base, he can go at least as low as Avi Kaplan.

    • @Husitka
      @Husitka 6 лет назад +4

Stephan, Chris did sing bass when Tim had solos, too. Mind you, he couldn't sing as low as Chance (since he's more of a tenor than a baritone although he was HF's baritone), but he did sing bass in some of HF's live performances and he did a very good job, so I find it a little disrespectful towards him when so many HF fans nowadays keep claiming that before Chance, it was only Tim singing bass in HF.
And Tim can go both lower and higher than Avi.

Thanks for the reaction and I love the way you talk about your thoughts on it after, a lot of other reactors don't they just watch it , say it was good, "if you liked this video click blah blah"" and BYE! (so some positive critique for you there) The bass of the group Tim Foust started the tenor lead. He has amazing range to his voice and can also sing super low.(AO, F1) the baritone here Adam Chance sang the bass part. They made this song for 3 tenors to sing and there is only 2 in the group, so *poof* Bass became tenor and baritone became bass. They are versitile that way, which in itself is amazing.

Hello, Meghan. Thanks for another HF reaction. ♥
I believe Mayday isn't supposed to be a bass-heavy song, and it's also quite different from what HF usually sounds like. It's an incredible arrangement on its own, but the fact that the guys swapped their usual parts is what makes it absolutely genius (because how many groups could do the same?). But that part goes unnoticed by reactors who are new to HF. That's why I personally always try to suggest this specific video only when the reactor already knows quite a lot about HF and their usual sound. Because I believe it's only then when they can truly appreciate what a genius arrangement Mayday is.
(Btw, I still enjoyed your reaction to it.)
Anyway, I would suggest *I Can't Stop This Feeling!* , *Try Everything* , *Castle On The Hill* or *Life Is A Highway* for you to watch because all of those cover both low and high registers and will show you how full, rich and versatile HF sound truly is.

This may be my favorite song from them. Their ranges throughout the group are pretty amazing. Tim Foust singing this high as opposed to his normal bass range really impressed me. Rob's voice...the only word that comes to mind every time I hear him is "pure." The original song was sung by a female artist, so I wonder if that's why they chose to keep it on the higher side. I would recommend "In the Blood", "How Great Thou Art" is beautiful, "The Butts Remix" is amazingly fun. Very few of Home Free's songs have been clicked off before the end of the video. Not that I didn't enjoy their voices, but I just didn't care for the song. Oh! Play this video again, and then play their version of "Hillbilly Bone" to hear the difference in Tim's range. Unbelievable and such a fun video. Have a great evening!

    Hi there.
Yes. This song is great. Everyone else has more than likely already shared. The very first men to sing is Tim Foust. He is the lowest bass singing out there right now. So, the reason the bass wasn't as strong, is because the original song is sung by a woman. The group obviously wanted to divide the song so that each voice is heard. Tim also has beautiful control of high end. So he took the first verse. Austin, the group's high tenor or first tenor, took the chorus. The second verse is sung by their second tenor, Rob. (He's the one with the beard). His voice is naturally high. The gentleman who took the bass line, is Adam Chance. He takes over the bass line, when Tim is singing lead.
The beat-boxer, or what comes across as the drum section. Is Adam Rupp. He is the last of 2 brothers who started the group. The group won the fourth season of "The Sing Off". You can go back and see them. It's cool to see their differences between then and now.
Fans of Home Free are called "Home Fries".
A video you are going to want to see is "Misty Mountains". It is a collaboration between Tim Foust, and Peter Hollens. Yes! It is a song from the movie, "The Hobbit".
You will get to hear Tim's low end. Yeah. Not going to say more. Don't want to spoil it.
    Thanx,
    Mindy

Loved the reaction & Love Home Free!!! Biggest shock to me (even tho I know he can hit higher notes) was Tim Foust, the bass! I've come to call Tim the "7 octave stud" (although it's not that many truly, I don't believe). 2nd was Adam "Chance" droppin' that bass note. Blew me away! Entire song was fantastic, as well as all Home Free performances. Definitely a must see on tour, I had so much fun...who knew it would be so comical as well. Lookin' forward to many more reactions. Thanks for the reaction! I’m glad they were able to take something you don’t normally prefer and make it enjoyable for you (sustained high range). They actually often make people like things they don’t normally 😂. There have been a few others who have reacted to songs they don’t really like just because we asked (such nice people) only to finish with their mouth dropped saying “I can’t believe they got me to like that song!”. Home Free has a way of capturing people. BUT! As others have said, this much tenor is the exception, not the rule. There is always killer tenor because Austin can belt it like no other and Rob is crystal clear and pure, so we’ve got to show them off! But it usually balances with an equal amount of “unreal super bass going to blow out your speakers” Tim and the most fantastic pure gravel baritone from Chance (my favorite voice of them all). So in other words... keep checking them out 😂. Thanks for reading my novel! I appreciate all the great commentary and feedback. PS - I forgot to mention “freak of nature” “he’s got to be a robot” world best beat boxer, Adam Rupp, killin’ it everywhere he goes. He’s not part of the harmonies (except when he is 😉. Just wait until you get a song where he SINGS!), but I couldn’t leave him out. Now it’s a trilogy. Have a great evening!

A prominent Bass line is NOT a problem Home Free has. They have 2 Basses. It just so happens that their Super Bass happens to have 5 octave range and sang lead on this song. Chance, who took over the Baritone spot in the group is actually a Bass but only has 4 octave range (that's a joke, 4 octaves isn't something to sneeze at). This was a departure from their usual sound. But Home Free is loved by their fans and none of them are loved or appreciated more than Tim, the Bass.

  • @rayraudebaugh5395
    @rayraudebaugh5395 6 лет назад +4

This is definitely a departure for them. I can't help but wonder if they were all singing higher because it a cover of a song sung by a woman or just because they wanted to show off another side to their talent. Also. Adam Rupp's beat boxing was totally insane!

Since you don't appear to know much about Home Free; they're a countrybased a capella group that's gained most of their popularity through a tv-show called the Sing-Off, which they won in its fourth season (Pentatonix won season three). Since then Chris has quit, and Adam Chance has joined up with the group. What you're hearing in this song is in particular not really a representation of what they usually do when it comes to the bass sections. Tim Foust, their actual bass singer, is singing here at the start in his higher octaves, he has a range of nearly 6 octaves, which is absolutely insane, but makes for interesting combinations. If you wish to hear the bass more, you should listen to songs like Ring of Fire, My Church, Hillbilly Bone, even Elvira. A lot of their songs have that bass feature more than this one. The part where you were like where did that come from, the low notes, were actually from their baritone, Adam. They also do sound the same in tv-appearances and in videos that have been posted from live-concerts; the Sing-Off performances are all in here: ruclips.net/video/7Hd3TtA-suo/видео.html ; I personally haven't been able to visit one of their concerts, but the videos that have been posted from concerts on youtube give a pretty good impression of what they're like live, and the sound appears to be nearly the same as in their music videos; mostly just worse recording devices. If I were to give you an advise, I'd try reacting to Ring of Fire next, if you're up for more Home Free; it also features the bass Avi Kaplan from Pentatonix and it just gives some great bass vibes.

Your reaction to Tim hitting those high notes is "classic," by now. Even those of us who have been listening to them for a long time, were pretty amazed when this one came out and Tim was in the lead first! (grin). I really appreciate your educated and knowledgeable approach to their music. Good job!
You are wrong, though (as others have already commented) about their live performances. They are just as good live. Of course, they have "perfect" acoustics when they do their videos and sound tracks, but they are just as together, and almost always as perfectly in tune, when live. I've seen/heard the occasional live video that doesn't sound quite as good, but then when I hear the same one filmed by someone else with a better phone, etc., they're actually right on.
I've received a blessing from my youngest daughter (my husband and I live with her, her husband, and their seven children) (we have six kids, 19 grandkids, and three great-grandkids all together), just a week ago. She bought tickets for just her and me, to go to the nearest Home Free concert to us, which takes place on May 11. I am so excited! I've been wanting to go, ever since I started listening to them, and now I'll get to go.
Another of HF's videos you may want to check out, is "In the Bood." Now that you've seen Adam Rupp's beatboxing in "Ring of Fire" and "Mayday," I think you will really appreciate the simplistic approach they took with "In the Blood," and how they (once again) transformed a cover song into their very own.

4:00 They're getting up there because they all have amazing ranges, and I'm personally convinced that Austin has no upper limit. 4:13 that came from Chance's manliness. He's a baritone, but he's so manly he can just hit notes that many basses can't hit. I'm a low bass, and I can BARELY get lower than that.

This song doesn't really show the vocal range of Tim Foust (the first to sing) but he can go from high baritone to very low bass. He does a song with Peter Hollins that really shows how low he can go. It is called Misty Mountains, you should check it out.

This song was originally done by a woman. I think that is why they are trying for high tones in this song. The 2 vids you have reacted too, Mayday and O Holy Night Home Free is purposely going high. If you want to hear Bass, I suggest "In the Blood"
and "Hillbilly Bone". "My Church" would be a good one also.

You don't understand what they were doing!
Maybe you shoud have held on to listening to this song until you heard maybe 5-8 other songs from Home Free where you could see what roles (voices) each singer does.
The first guy singing is the True Bass!
He has a ridiculous range (like 5 Octaves I think) and they reversed his role so everyone could see just what Tim can do at a higher range!
The Bass in this song was Chance!
He is usually is the Baritone (I think 4 Octaves) and he can do some other voices but they gave him the Bass in this song to show his voice off!
Chance is their Newest Member thus the desire to show him off!
Austin was the second singer and he and Rob (the 3rd singer) usually co-lead different songs and they have incredible voices and range too!
The Beat boxer is Adam and he's brilliant!
So to go back to the idea behind this song, they purposely kept a higher range and brought in the Bass line near the end or in the middle as they usually do in most of their songs!
This was a perfect arrangement of everyone's voices and skills!

They have a new bass/baritone so that Tim (bass) can do more things without losing the bottom. You may enjoy Seven Bridges Road and Helplessly Hopeful. Both are folk/rock songs with acapella portions in the originals. The first has the original baritone and the second has the new guy.

You can't go wrong with any Home Free video. I would have recommended that you wait until you saw about 5-10 HF videos until watching Mayday. This video usually turn people's perception of HF on it head. The first singer is Tim Foust. He is their bass singer, and us currently the lowest singer of most if not all the current a cappella groups.
They sang this song in Cam's register.

  • @RJMay3

I love that you reacted to Home free, but Mayday would not be the first reaction I would have recommended. One can appreciate the group members abilities in this song much more after hearing them sing other songs like -country fried pop, -in the blood, -blue ain't your color, -my church, -life is a highway, -I can't outrun you, just to name a few of their videos. Example of why?-The first person to sing in this video is Tim Foust, the group's bass singer with at least a 5 octave range that goes lower then Avi Kaplan as well as higher - tenor thru bass. Consider listening to Tim Foust singing misty mountain with Peter Hollens to get an idea of his lower range.
For that matter consider listening to Avi Kaplan sing black is the color of my true love's hair with Peter Hollens as well. Both videos use only the human voice, no other instruments. You would enjoy I think.

Great reaction, but you really MUST react to How Great Thou Art, My Church and Ring of Fire! Really fun videos are Hillbilly Bone, Champagne Taste, Honey I'm Good, Sold and Butts Remix. All of their covers are great, but these will give you a better idea of their range. I was going to give you examples, but that would spoil your reaction.

Reactor Critique, Negative - You have to realize when you are commenting with earplugs in that you are talking very loud. Positive - You break down songs very well. You hear notes and tones then comment on them with your opinion, not just on weather you like the song or not. Suggestion - Since you are new to Home Free, I suggest you listen to their "Sing Off" videos then watch earlier videos of theirs. Since you are new to them, you don't realize how amazing it is that Tim is singing Tenor in this because he is one of the lowest Basses you'll ever hear. Keep up the good work! Your good at this "reaction" thing. (the more you react to Home Free, the more I'll watch)
