Hello Ed it's always wonderful to get information from you in these beautiful paph. You're the reason why I tried growing slipper orchids because they're unique orchids to grow. 🥰 Thank you so much for all the care tips. Take care stay safe and happy growing 🥰 Reah
So nice of you for your very welcome comment. I hope your paphs are doing good and that you are getting much growth and many lovely blooms......thank you and take care, Ed.+
Good afternoon Ed, A video on Paphiopedilums and Phrags👍. I got a Bellatulum, which came with three small fans and nearly all dead desiccated roots….I am trying to coax new root growth. I shall try it in moss now that I have seen you using it for Paphs. The Paph cross with no name, given to you, is a lovely shaped leaf and plant, can’t wait to see it bloom. Posted early or late, your videos are always very informative and welcome Ed. Have a wonderful afternoon. 🌼🌸
Thank you Sue. You always say such pleasant comments for my videos which I really do appreciate. Hope your bellatulum picks up in the spring time after its winter rest. For its rest period just dampen the top of the media a couple of times a month........this should also inspire blooming.....hopefully......take care, Ed.
Thanks Ed, as always an inspiring video, some of my are needing a repot, so now I know what to put them into. You have great plants that always look so healthy.
Thanks for the information on your video today interesting thanks very much cold here at the moment -3 not at work at the moment school closed virus outbreak not back until sixth of December how lucky am I stay at home with my plants
So pleased that your Phrags are responding to your care......just keep the water fresh and don't let it age. Thanks for your very nice comment and take care, Ed.
Great slippers. Love the Fritz! Mine just dropped the flower after 2 weeks. There are 2 more buds still to go. Can't wait to compare blooms. Mine has some reflexing but I still love it. Cardinale is schlimii x sedenii if I'm not mistaken. Better shape than just sedenii alone. I will have a schlimii hybrid blooming soon as well as the schlimii parent. The latter aborted the first 2 buds, grew another growth, and is now making a new bud. Very strange. And of course, Hanne Popow has been in bloom forever. Sedenii, also another schlimii hybrid, took a break from blooming after being split. Love the paphs in the live moss. Unfortunately, not easy to come around here in Canada, and it would probably die in my conditions. With a possible symbiotic relationship, you have to wonder what intricate interactions happen between moss and plant roots. Happy growing, Ed, wishing you more blooms and fewer slugs.
Good evening Res and I hope this reply finds you 'in the pink' My Fritz has been in spike for a couple of months and it just stays there and doesn't move!! You're right about the cardinale and it's so beautiful it should be in everyones collection of Phrags. I look forward to seeing your schlimi's in bloom. The relationship between roots and the moss is unknown to me buy I've had success with it on many ocassions. Have a look at Micks Masdevallias he has a video on how to grow moss easily.......I'm trying it out. Thanks for the comment Res...take care and happy growing, Ed.
Great video Ed, you reminded me about slugs and snails! I need to pick up some Diatomaceous earth to sprinkle around the floor of my polytunnel slugs and snails hate it and it dries them right up if they get into it.
I had to give up my only Phragmipedium (Hanne Popow). I moved, so no place to keep it cooler than in my home has to offer. Still missing it. Thank you for participating! You have a great collection.
Thank you Tropical Plants Finland. So sorry to hear that you had to part with your only Phragmipedium although it would probably have done quite well in your indoor set-up providing you watered almost every day with cool water. Also sorry I've been a week early with my video but I'll probably do another much shorter one, Take care, Ed.
@@EdsOrchids no worries Ed, I'm sure it'll be my turn to mix date. It's just something waiting to happen any of us. Better this way, than late. :) I'm looking forward to your new video! Take care and stay safe.
Oh Boy Ed That was very good and interesting! I have 2 slipper orchids that have not been doing well and trying to find helpful information. I also shy away from moss, but did learn that I have them too high in the pot. Our Humidity summer and winter (lucky to get 40%) Phalaenopsis adjusted happily to this even in bark, but these two are a problem. Much appreciated time and energy to do this great video Carolyn
I don't think you will find any information which will help you to make the plants bloom. I have some very good books on slippers and they all say that most of them are very easy.....may be we have some of the difficult ones?? You are quite right that having them too high in the pot won't be helpful. Thank you Carolyn and take care, Ed.
I have a Paph. bellatulum x Johanna Burkhart I will give it a winter rest to see if I can induce blooms. Thanks for the tip. So far it has 4 growths but it grows slowly and I have no idea if its first growth is even mature. I have my eye on buying a Paph. dollgoldii
Thanks for your comment Spencer. I hope you have the best of luck with two plants you mentioned.....both are lovely if you can get them to bloom. The dollgoldii can be a very stubborn plant to bloom. It is a slow grower and, in my opinion, they can become a blind plant where no matter how well you treat them they will never bloom......hope you don't get one of those!!! Ed.
Good grief Nina. How come I have ut written down for Nov 25th?? I never thought the age thing would catch up on me but evidently it has happened sooner than I thought it would. I'm sp sorry if I've made a mess of things, Ed.
I've had my Paphs and Phrags in a "wet" Cymbidium mix (bark, peat, moss and coconut husk and fiber) The Paphs are doing really well but the Phrags are staying behind (I keep those wet) not sure why
The Phrags always grow with their roots in running water, either in rivers, streams, on the wet side of hillsides or even very close to waterfalls. There are not many of them which can tolerate dry and wet periods ......caudatum being one of them, On the whole the Paphs like to have access to moisture and hate being wet all the time.......so keep an eye on your Paphs because they don't tend to show a downhill trend with being over wet until all the roots have gone. Ed.
@@EdsOrchids I'm afraid I can never give the Phrags what they need. Been thinking on IV bags the ones they use in hospitals. The Paphs are under constant surveilance 😁 and the roots are still steadily growing on all three
Hello John. The Phrags are in the greenhouse and don't receive any artificial lighting so at this time of the year they'll be lucky to get 8 hours of some sort of light per day......it depends on the outside weather!! Ed.
Found your video informitive i have about 8 slippers some have floppy leaves that fold down the middle but they are a healthy shade of green any ideas thanx
Hi William. I haven't seen Paphs with leaves reflexing down the middle stem of the leaf, The only thing I have seen is a leaf which is of a wavy shape and on checking out what caused it I found that it is in the breeding of the plant and is called polyploidy......thanks for the comment....take care, Ed.
