Hi! Seeing how much you enjoyed the TT Soundsurge 46 as regards sound quality, I´d be really interested in knowing your opinion in a 46 vs 90 competition regarding sound quality and ANC. Is 90´s ANC better that 46´s? Which has better sound quality? I wish you had included 46´s in this review!! Thanks a lot and hope to find the answers soon!!
I recently purchased the Taotronics Soundsurge 90 and am pleased with the purchase. I'm using them to block out TV noise. The ANC helps when it's close by. I listen to a lot of spoken word and also quiet music with no heavy bass line. So far, I've found that the bass does not overwhelm and distort the music. Some sound quality on the music could use improvement, but it's not a deal breaker. In September 2021, they are being sold on ebay with option for 3 year warranty for about $40.
Their warranty doesn't mean much from my experience today. Mine's still under warranty but they won't honor it because my 85s are not sold anymore. Amazon can give me a refund, but Taotronics won't do jack. BTW reason for return: Plastic has cracked, and it's just wear/tear.
@@ayla2126 I'm probably not the person to ask because I don't have much to compare them to. They block out enough sound that I wouldn't wear them some place where I need to be aware of what is going on in my surroundings.
@@JulienFrey if you're buying from Amazon it's going to be a bit of a gamble. You won't know if you're getting the refreshed model or the old one. I think the same will happen as with the BH-TT046 situation some months back. They updated it to USB-C, new audio tuning, and CVC 8.0, but people randomly get either the old CVC 6 and microUSB or the new upgraded one. Basically they may have both in the warehouse and they just grab the first one they see or something like that.
You can compare the total score for the 90's against what each of those models got. He also mentions how each category compared to the previous models too.
Hey Mate, thanks for another great comparison. After this test, would you say the 90's sound better than the SoundSurge 46? I am asking purely on sound quality. Thanks in advance
I think he said the 46 is bassier, the 90 is more accurate and better sound production. But 46 is much cheaper. So if you want best for price and you like bass get 46s. If you want accurate sound and don't mind paying 30$ more get 90s
Thanks for another great review. If you decide to stick with another budget headphone review, I’d love to see you do the Soundcore Life Q20. These are the same price point at the Soundsurge 90, so I’d think they’d be a great head-to-head comparison.
The TaoTronic 90's are better in every way, losing slightly in sound to the Q20's (depending on preference). If you wanna read full comparison, here Fit: The Life Q20's have a tighter clamp and firmer memory foam ear pads that have a softer feeling leather. They do a great job of keeping your ears from touching the driver wall. The TaoTronics 90 have bigger pads, but a smaller ear opening much softer memory foam. Your ears are most likely going to touch the drivers but the driver wall is nicely padded so you shouldn't feel any discomfort. Verdict: Personal preference. For me personally, the TaoTronics 90's are more comfortable for long periods of use. My ears don't get as hot and the clamp isn't as tight. Build & Quality: The Q20's have a nice gloss plastic, but creak... a lot. They come with a small bag for carrying. The TT90's have smooth non gloss plastic with metallic ear cups. The TT90's also come with a hard clam shell case and the buttons feel noticeably higher quality, sitting more flush with the ear cups. Verdict: TaoTronics 90, no contest Noise Cancelling: The Q20's do a decent job for the price. Have more white noise than the TT90's. I think they're fine if you just need some ANC heaphones for the office or home, but I wouldn't use these if your main use is for when you're flying. The TT90's have better ANC with less white noise. Verdict: TaoTronics 90 Sound: The Q20's are V-Shaped and have more bass and sharper highs than the TT90's. With ANC off, you get even more bass and the Q20's end up sounding very similar to the Soundcore life Q10's but aren't quite as clear. Don't bother using the BASS UP function unless you want to drown out everything with bass. Regardless, the Q20's are def good if you're a basshead. The TT90's are what I'd consider a more "consumer friendly" balanced sound. There's plenty of bass and the highs don't get too sharp. They don't get as loud as the Q20's, but they also don't have any distortion at any volume. Verdict: Soundcore Life Q20 for bassheads, TT90's for everyone else. Summary: Overall, I think they're both great headphones. But I consider the TT90's to be a slight to major step up over the Q20's in almost every category; they're better built, more comfortable, come with an actual case and have better ANC. Unless you're a basshead, the TT90's are a no brainer and are often on sale for the same price as the Q20's. If you don't need ANC, I'd suggest saving a little money and getting the Soundcore Life Q10's (or if you're not as much of a basshead, the Tribit Xfree Tune).
As mentioned elsewhere, got these as my Soundcore Life Q20 from AliE never arrived. Hopefully it's a better buy Out of curiosity, If the Xm3 is a 10 on sound quality, where would the 90s be?

I'm a fan of the independent ANC switch. It really comes in handy when you have a lot of noisy neighbors and ambient outside noise and are trying to sleep.
Thanks for the review.. . How about sound leakage or music bleed in quiet surroundings for various volume level in this TT 90? Keen to know that as well..
Just order mine and I have USB C on my soundsurge 90. I notice a change in audio quality when the ANC on. Less Bass and more hight frequencies. Im so disapointed because the ANC is working pretty well. And I like bass so I have to listen with ANC off its sound so much better !

Good review. But the Toshiba rze bt1200 must be in this review. I wonder why no one reviews and compares it. The toshiba now is around $50 or less. But it is worth buying. I discovered it by chance, bought it, find it soo owesome and very good ANC.
Great review. Bought Soundsurge 85 last year, sadly the bluetooth/wireless feature did not even last for more than 3 months. Complete waste of money, next time I'd probably buy ones from more reliable brands like sony or bose. It will be quite an investment but at least it will last longer.
Had a pair of Taotronics for two years and they've lasted incredible on my end. Claim the extended warranty on your purchase via their website and get in touch with them. They WILL offer either a replacement or a refund
Curious if you've had a chance to try the new Soundpeats P6 (their 1st over ear ANC BT headphones). They're apparently very similar to these. Possibly the same parent company but I'm not sure. I only saw one video and it was a 3 way comparison I was looking at. These for good marks though as well so I'm a little torn between them. A few + and - between the Soundpeats.
I'm trying to RMA my Soundsurge 46 because the earpads broke down and they said they don't have stocks so they can give me this one, the Soundsurge 90. Would this be a downgrade or upgrade? I had the latest 46 with USBC and CVC 8. Am I understanding your reviews right that The Soudsurge 90 and 46 both sound better than the 55 and 85?
How is the ANC of the 90s compared to something like the Sony WH-1000M3 or the M4. I know that their in completely different price categories, just curious
It's scarily good. When it comes to low frequency noises, they're probably 70% as good - higher frequencies, not so much. But for the money, it's amazing value in terms of ANC performance.
i have the 90, and i dont understand how people say they can pc game with this, everytime you switch between hands-free mode (only one with mic) and stereo, the other gets muted, meaning, if you are in discord in voice, you won't head game sounds, unless you run everything as handsfree, which means poor sound quality in game. Still trying to figure out if its just me or a general thing.
Interestingly I find ANC on/off sound quality pretty different. When ANC is on, the highs come through more and almost give everything a bit of a metallic kinda feel. I don't know how to describe it other than that. When ANC is on, everything sounds a lot warmer and fuller which I prefer. I still love these earphones so far though, and the ANC is great.
Hi. Thanks for the review/comparison which was really good....but, like nearly every review I've seen for headphones, it doesn't tackle what I would consider a very important factor - sound leakage (I think one other comment mentioned this below). If I'm sitting next to my "better half" on the sofa and she's watching TV and I want to stay in the room but listen to music etc. on the phones at what sound level will any sound leakage start to annoy her? Similarly in a quiet environment with TV off, at what sound level will the phones start to leak and annoy. In a public space, say travelling on a bus or train, again at what sound levels will these annoy passengers sitting next to me or close by. Perhaps there is zero leakage even at the highest volume?? It would be a nice to know. Just one other thing regarding sound quality, using the phones with the audio cable plugged in. Is there any sound quality difference over bluetooth with either the ANC on or off? Great video and very helpful in all other aspects though. I'm looking at possibly purchasing the TaoTronics 90's for Christmas. Cheers.
PickyAudio did a review on this vs the Sony XM4 (mostly it's just for reference) and he said that at the same volume the sound leakage level is the same as the Sony XM4. He also said that 100% volume on the TT equal to 85% on the Sony. So I guess you can look sound leakage reviews on the Sony (RTINGS has data on it) and extrapolate?
I have Taotronics Soundliberty 79 earbuds that are legitimately the best sound system I've ever heard in person. I've not heard any speaker or headset of any kind beat these earbuds. So how do their ANC headphones compare to their earbuds like mine?
I purchased Taotronic headphones two weeks ago and have not received any notifications or support. After digging into the TaoTronics website, support email, and Facebook page, I'm starting to think that it's a scam company. Help?
Been using my TaoTronics ss60 for over 4 years and they just won’t die. They stopped working after about 6 months when I got them wet. TaoTronics warranted them with absolutely no hassle and let me keep the broken pair. I ended up drying out the headphones and they started working again. Today the ear muffs skin is fully pealed off, plastics are breaking, down button is broken and they aren’t as loud as they once were, but they just won’t die. I use them in an extremely harsh environment almost daily. They have served me extremely well for what I needed them for. (Hearing protection at work and phone calls) For the price point these are definitely the best budget headphones I have ever owned. Bought some (ss90s) for friends, co-workers, my kids and family and everyone loves them.
Hello :) Be careful when you measuring the ANC on the Taotronics 90 the ambient noise is slitly higher than on the 85 from your last review 4 month ago.
this is the most sensible guide on the matter, i'm just left wondering if the 90 has aptx or not (or even cvc8), since i bought one but the hands-free AG audio sounds really bad (as they always do), and i can't use microsoft teams (on laptop) on stereo mode, in theory aptx should fix that. Gonna test for a few more days to decide if i'm gonna return it for the 85 or not, as that one has for sure. *update* if you have a laptop just get a separate bluetooth dongle, onboard=crap quality, makes a world of a difference, now hands free works fine.
Did you know there is a soundsurge 46 with upgraded mic, type c and aptx? It's the soundsurge 46 gold. I don't think they have them in black with these features. Just bought it renewed yesterday on Amazon for 37$

for me between what I have heard comfort wise (the 85's being a little bit more comfort) AND that ANC auto-turns itself off .... that means I couldn't use it without BT on and/or listening to something ... that's a DEAL BREAKER for me ... at least if i was say considering the 85's vs the 90's
for music and anc performance 90s are better.85s are lighter and smaller than the 90s which will help you better with travel. for microphone 85s are better cuz they got clear voice capture 8.0 . i own the 85s and thier sound signature is great but it kinda sounds a bit tiny and lack detail in vocals and bass but they are good for classic pianos or stuff if you use them without anc. with anc thier sound signature has a significant change with boosted bass, vocals and detail of it. its louder as well with anc on. another fun fact 85s got the multipoint connection which lets you connect two devices at the same time.90s doesnt has that. if you prefer lightweight, better microphone and dont bother much for music go for 85s if you love to have better built quality, better sound signature and anc performance, dont care much about microphone. go for 90s

Which is better in terms of sound quality soundSurge 90 or the Cowin se7 max?
I thought this was going to be 90 vs 55 vs 60 vs 85 but it seems like it's just a review of the 90s? Am I missing something?
You can compare the total score for the 90's against what each of those models got. He also mentions how each category compared to the previous models too.
I am pretty happy and satisfied with my soundsurge 60! still using them every day. I recomend them!
Soundsurge 90 or soundcore q30? Help me decide which should i buy.
Hey Mate, thanks for another great comparison. After this test, would you say the 90's sound better than the SoundSurge 46? I am asking purely on sound quality. Thanks in advance
keen to know this also!
How would you compare this to the soundsurge 46 in sound quality given price difference? Are this better or not?
f
I think he said the 46 is bassier, the 90 is more accurate and better sound production. But 46 is much cheaper. So if you want best for price and you like bass get 46s. If you want accurate sound and don't mind paying 30$ more get 90s
The 46s are cheaper than the 90s here in the US.
If you wanna read full comparison, here
Fit:
The Life Q20's have a tighter clamp and firmer memory foam ear pads that have a softer feeling leather.
Build & Quality:
The Q20's have a nice gloss plastic, but creak... a lot. They come with a small bag for carrying. The TT90's have smooth non gloss plastic with metallic ear cups. The TT90's also come with a hard clam shell case and the buttons feel noticeably higher quality, sitting more flush with the ear cups.
Verdict: TaoTronics 90, no contest
Noise Cancelling:
The Q20's do a decent job for the price. Have more white noise than the TT90's. I think they're fine if you just need some ANC heaphones for the office or home, but I wouldn't use these if your main use is for when you're flying. The TT90's have better ANC with less white noise.
Verdict: TaoTronics 90
Sound:
The Q20's are V-Shaped and have more bass and sharper highs than the TT90's.
Summary:
Overall, I think they're both great headphones.

Oddly enough, after further testing, this effect seems to only be prominent when watching youtube. No idea why.
interesting
Hey! Can you review the vankyo c751? I’m curious what you think.

They have served me extremely well for what I needed them for. this is the most sensible guide on the matter, i'm just left wondering if the 90 has aptx or not (or even cvc8), since i bought one but the hands-free AG audio sounds really bad (as they always do), and i can't use microsoft teams (on laptop) on stereo mode, in theory aptx should fix that. Gonna test for a few more days to decide if i'm gonna return it for the 85 or not, as that one has for sure.

for me between what I have heard comfort wise (the 85's being a little bit more comfort) AND that ANC auto-turns itself off .... that means I couldn't use it without BT on and/or listening to something ... that's a DEAL BREAKER for me ... at least if i was say considering the 85's vs the 90's
Which is better, 90 or 85? In terms of the microphone ، the sound of the music and ANC ?
for music and anc performance 90s are better.85s are lighter and smaller than the 90s which will help you better with travel. for microphone 85s are better cuz they got clear voice capture 8.0 . i own the 85s and thier sound signature is great but it kinda sounds a bit tiny and lack detail in vocals and bass but they are good for classic pianos or stuff if you use them without anc. with anc thier sound signature has a significant change with boosted bass, vocals and detail of it. its louder as well with anc on. another fun fact 85s got the multipoint connection which lets you connect two devices at the same time.90s doesnt has that. if you prefer lightweight, better microphone and dont bother much for music go for 85s if you love to have better built quality, better sound signature and anc performance, dont care much about microphone. go for 90s
