Thanks for this video. I just had my first stuck tape that would not eject in an IBM LTO4 full height drive. With this I was able to figure out the tape load/unload gear and how to get the leader pin unhooked from the take up reel. In the end, the problem was that the tape ripped after about 1 foot of tape pull. It wasn't a tension rip as the tape did not look stretched a the spot, it looks like a clean cut that probably started from a nick in the tape. Luckily it happened at the beginning of the tape and didn't have to unwind a long mess of tape from the internal reel.
This worked great on my IBM LTO5 full height tape drive, identical to this LTO1 drive. The tape itself was messed up and had to be sacrificed. This information helped to get the leader and tape out of the drive, with little fuss. Thanks.
7:40 no, you are rotating the correct way. Just think about the movement of the big wheel at the back -> spooling tape up or releasing tape. For it to be releasing tape it has to turn clockwise.
How can i fix a no power problem? I have connected a LTO3 FH Drive to pata power and turn on the pc. I see no lights on the drive. I have not connected SCSI for now.
Is there a fuse maybe? I have found an smd almost right after the 12V pin. Labeled DKP. Before it i measure 12V but behind this i measure nothing. Also there is no continuity through this smd.
Hi, grate video, I never see it opened like this! ... but I need more info.... What AC power you use to have a external Power???? I need to know what is the correct Power cord or Ac power to use external the LTO 6 IBM ????
sbentjies If you are referring to the 7:40 mark of the video. You want to turn the little gear up. This is to raise the tape cartridge up. I got turned around and started turning the gear downwards, but you want to turn the gear upwards.
Hi ATPDARK We use an external power supply with the 4 pin molnex connector very typical supplys 5 volts and 12 volts. In a a pinch a PC power supply would work if plugged into a Mother Board Our external power supplies come from external cases that have the 4 pin connector and an AC input. Hope this helps

The IBM Dry Process Cleaning Kit 35L0844 is for MLR drives. The dry process cleaners are very expensive. We have the wet process cleaning cartridge that works on MLR drives. Here is link to our web store to take a look at it. We have 2 in stock: tapedrivesales.com/products/tandberg-8962-50-cleanings-1-4-qic-tape-drive-new-cleaning-kit-new
Hi Sebbagh: Thanks for contacting us via our web site and for the U Tube question. With those kinds of FSC, they are all related to a head issue. The heads are not repairable only replaceable. No heads are available from IBM. If you can force a data dump from the drive you will also be able to look at the FSC and do a lot of discovery from the drive log download page. On the EO 8s this is a common issue, no way to resolve. Regards, Dan

Hii sir
7:40 no, you are rotating the correct way.

I was fine until you started changing directions on the rotation of that tiny gear. Up or down?
