  • Welcome to Hippodrome Square, the lively heart of Istanbul where ancient history and modern culture come together in one unforgettable space. In this travel video, I'll take you on a whirlwind tour of the iconic landmarks that make this public square so special.
We'll journey back to ancient Egypt with the towering Egyptian Obelisk, an incredible feat of engineering that has stood in the square for over 1600 years. Believe us, this thing is huge! And with intricate hieroglyphics carved into every inch of its surface, it's a true marvel of ancient artistry.
Next up, the German Fountain is a gazebo styled fountain in the northern end of old hippodrome, Istanbul, Turkey and across from the Mausoleum of Sultan Ahmed I. It was constructed to commemorate the second anniversary of German Emperor Wilhelm II's visit to Istanbul in 1898.
But that's not all! We'll also check out the Serpentine Column, a shimmering bronze monument that was once part of a much larger structure commemorating Greece's victory over Persia in the Battle of Plataea.
And of course, no visit to Hippodrome Square would be complete without a stop at the Column of Constantine, a massive pillar erected in honor of the legendary Roman emperor.
