Whenever I watch your videos, I get so inspired. I ran upstairs and tried on every pair of my jeans. Whew! I put some in to be tailored (by me) and got rid of several. I have been retired for 10 years and slowly my wardrobe has changed, thanks to you. I used to wear sweatshirts and leggings. Occasionally, I still do, but I discovered the Quince cashmere costs less than most of my sweatshirts! I wear jeans and nice sweaters at home now. I still have trousers and jackets to wear for more special occasions. I love getting dressed every day!
I’m not retired yet but went from being in the office daily to working from home. I need nice blouses and sweaters for Zoom calls, but I might be wearing them with leggings or yoga pants. 😆 I only need full office attire a few times a year for work conferences and onsite meetings. I lost 100 lbs, am menopausal, going grey, and have had to replace my entire wardrobe while figuring out a new style. I’m also trying to rid my closet of polyester. So I’ve bought silk tops, cashmere sweaters, wool pants, cotton dresses and lots of linen. Mostly solid colors and some stripes, in blue, white, black, grey and burgundy.
I’m past menopause , not sure if I had symptoms but I’m dealing with an illness and I feel comfortable mixing masculine jeans and feminine tops , simple makeup, and hair .
Mixing and matching elegant and casual is modern, stylish and chic imo, it's a brilliant way of wearing everything in my wardrobe and looking cool and different from everybody else, I really love this style. I'm 58 and wearing elegant from top to toe makes me look older and dated, wearing casual from top to toe makes me look sloppy and like I'm trying to dress like a teenager, mixing it up is the way to go for me.
Thank you Nada, I too have quite a few elegant pieces (velvet trouser suits, feminine blouses) that I hardly ever wear, I must wear them more even though my lifestyle is more casual now - there's no harm in wearing a lovely blazer and handbag even though you're just going to the shops, after all it's better than leaving these items unworn inside your wardrobe. in 2025 I'd like to try sporty chic, I'm eyeing a pair of flared track pants from Adidas - I'm 58 and never thought I'd want anything like that, we'll see! Bummer: I put on half a stone recently, I must lose it as everything feels tight
I agree that we do more and more online, including banking, shopping, working, training and even socialising. I know even people who do online travelling - by watching videos and online courses about travelling. And I agree it's often an improvement to a busy lifestyle and getting more opportunities, and expanding our horizons, etc. However, I find that the more things I do online, the less clothes I need, especially stylish clothes. Simply because I don't get outside as often as I used to in previous years. Last two years I worked mostly from home, did online groceries and socialised online with colleagues and friends overseas. I almost forgot that I am in fact a pretty woman with a potential to dress stylishly. It feels silly to dress stylishly, with jewelry and nice outfits, if all I can do is change nice tops for Zoom meetings, and otherwise stay in my jeans, because if I need to pop out to the supermarket to get suchi lunch, jeans are much more appropriate than a fancy skirt with jewelry and dressy top. Not so long ago I was on a bus, dressed smart casual which almost looked overdressed, and I saw a lady in her 60s dressed in a nice dress, hat and dressy necklace, a nice makeup - she looked like she was going to a party , and it looked even weird in the morning, on a bus with people dressed casually. I think unfortunately we are all moving towards more casual lifestyle and more casual dressing styles.
I totally agree with you, I live in London with an amazing variety of free museums, etc. but I've been staying very local since the pandemic. I must get out more, like you I have lovely clothes but I've been wearing casual jeans/corduroys, etc. for a long time, it hardly seems worth getting dressed to go to the local park or the supermarket. I'm guilty of watching art and travel videos on YT, but one of my resolutions for 2025 is to go out more, and it's better to be overdressed than sloppy like most people seem to be these days.
Even when fashion sites use older women, they are models or actresses so they are usually tall & slender & the photos are professionally retouched. Not necessarily representative of the average women who might be shopping for clothes at 50+ Online shopping: I do most of my shopping that way since finding plus size clothes & lingerie at a brick & nortar store is very time consuming. I also do not currently drive (disabled) & making my husband drive me around & wait for me & unload my mobility devices - not fun. It's exhausting to shop in person anymore. Look for sites with free returns/exchanges or a brick & morter store you can return at. Stores have much more inventory online.
I have tried on loft sweaters in xs when I ordered online the xs it wasn’t the same size as I tried on in store, it was bigger! Almost a medium. The cuts aren’t quality controlled.

Yes, agreed. I shop at Loft and it is an "ageless" brand store. Great variety and styles and they offer petite sizes.
