I've been offroading (REAL offroad, like racing in Baja and rock crawling the "Hammers") since 1965. I learned a LONG time ago that lights mounted close to the driver's line of sight work well to light up the road, but they make the road look dead flat. Because there are no shadows to define rough ground. Rough desert or forest trail looks like an airport runway. This is not terrible at speeds under 20mph. But can get you in trouble at higher speed. Like cruising down a dirt road that LOOKS smooth, but has nasty ruts, rocks and bumps.
This jeep transformation has been a blast to watch! And these lights lend themselves to the look of it very well. Also helps that they are matchy matchy with the LP6s lol
I have the exact same light set up on my 19 JLU Rubicon. 2x Amber LP6 PRO on the front bumper and 2x clear LP4 PRO on the A-pillars angled out at 30-45 degrees. They’ve been great on the mountain trails of Colorado.
I just recently put LP9’s on my jeep tjs bumper they’re great just the low beam is more than enough then the high beam puts out a nice spot light I’m getting lp6 I might put them on my pillar mounts or run them as my head lights then just aim them down
Great video man! I have followed you ever since I got my 14 Rubicon. I wish I lived out west (NC here) so I could take advantage of those great jeepin locations! Keep the vids coming and thanks for the great content...best jeep channel for the best technical info in my opinion!
These lights look amazing!! Thank you for ALL the videos you've made over the years! I've watched so many of them & I'm also driving a '13 JK so it's great because everything you do fits right into my build too and gives me great ideas for upgrades!! Any thoughts on doing any audio upgrades in your Jeep? I've watched a few videos on sound deadening the Jeep and would love to see your take on it too! Thanks!
I have been waiting for a review and light demonstration of the LP4s mounted on the A pillars for months and I think your the first person that has done it on the Jeep. I have been debating about getting the XL80’s or the LP4’s for the A pillar for awhile now. I’d like to see what the hood reflection looks like from inside the vehicle with the light straight out in front and then moving out towards the sides. Thanks so much for the video!
If you look during the overhead shot with just the LP4's ... there is NO light spilling onto the hood at all! I love it... feels perfect for the trail.
I really like Diode Dynamics lights, but BD look really good on the Jeep. I just might have to go that route. However I also have a '94 GMC Yukon (2 door/4x4) that I could transfer my DD lights to. I really enjoy your channel. Even more so because we have the same vehicles.
I recently watched a pretty great comparison video of those two companies and found the basic differences in design interesting. Both super high quality! That's awesome to hear about our similar rides!
I'm the same way when it comes to mods. I love the look of the KC light bars and would love a rhino rack but even with my 35's I'm already pushing it on parking structures. I just ordered some 37s and I know it'll be even harder. A drawback to also thinking about weight in my jeep (I don't have a rear bumper and have replaced everything with aluminum means that my rear is quite high as well. It works out when wheeling weight wise and when camping since I just sleep in my jeep but who knew those would be the problems that come up.
@@AutoEdits Im also a fan of more subtle/clean look too. Granted I'm not sure how subtle our lifted jeeps really are but I don't like the "overland" look on it. I purposely choose mods I can also remove when not in use such as the rock slide engineering spare tire rotopax mounts that come off when not wheeling/camping and anything like that.
Happy New Year 2023! Where is Pinto, need for the New Year. I added the Quadratec 50-inch inside the cabin (behind windshield) lightbar. Heard one was being made for the JK as well. The only issue is if you're tall it intrudes a bit into your field of view, especially at traffic intersections. Since it's behind the windshield, I am not sure how it would be viewed in CA for covering but have had no complaints on elsewhere. GOD bless and best wishes to you for the new year.
Looks amazing, Jason! Really enjoy your videos and attention to detail. Were you able to determine if these reflect off the hood? Looking forward to your next edit.
What made you go clear vs amber on the lp4. I’m running the squadrons amber wide corning in my fog lights. Not sure on going amber lp4 or clear driving combo. At least it’s easy to switch lens worse case.
Just to mix it up... I have the amber on the LP6s in front so I thought the corner illumination should be brighter since it's not for bad weather or dust... just strongest vision.
What do the backlights look like at night? Are they just an amber light that are bright enough to be seen? Similar to the amber lights some newer trucks have on their mirrors?
Complete fail on my part not to showcase that... yes... they show just like you mentioned and are really a nice addition to the night driving impression.
@@AutoEdits No big deal on not showing it. Its a cool feature though. It would almost be worth putting a hole in the covers to let out just the marker light, but still block the four offroad only lights.
I've got some Baja Design Squadron Sport lights that I was considering putting on the A-pillar of my Bronco. The cowl has a mounting spot with a bolt already, but I wonder if mounting the light that low will cause way too much scatter off the hood. Have you done any testing to see how much differences having the light raised up a few inches makes?
I have the LP6's on the bumper for full glory but moving lights a bit higher and rearward towards the A pillar offers more side cornering visibility or "ditch light"
Hi Jason, Random question, can you mount the mount turned 90 degrees (sideways), and then turn the light 90 degrees? Would require threads on the top and bottom of the light. I couldn't figure it out based off their instructions. Regards, Greg
I'm only doing really small stuff... like that first shot as a Space Force Admiral in Seal Team and I play a dead guy in an upcoming big space movie... stuff like that 🤣
@@AutoEdits I'm assuming you haven't been pulled over for the backlight usage too? I have KC Flex Era 4s that also have backlighting, and I thought I couldn't use it on-road. But I recently saw a Raptor using theirs on the freeway around Big Bear, CA. Granted, it was snowing at the time, LOL. But still. Backlighting on these aren't anything like the amber fog lights other cars use legally, but the fact that my backlight was being used on an off-road light made me think I couldn't. Thanks for the info!
I'm still just doing really ambiguous background work but slowly getting more comfortable closer to the real action... Like that first shot of me as a Space Force Admiral for Seal Team 😂

Thanks so much... and I totally agree with the matchy matchy sentiment... LOL!
Do your neighbors ever yell at you? "Knock it off Jason, we're trying to watch TV!" lol
Only when I'm facing the rigs the other direction... LOL!

Im a huge fan of a pillar and bumper light combo over any light bar setup.
Howdy dude!!! I love your new build... what a beast!

I’m with you about light bars. My Gladiator is a daily driver and A-Pillar lights are perfect for my purposes.
Heck yeah!
Awesome. I'm switching my A piler lights from 4 to same as yours Diode Dynamics really stepped up the game in lighting market
Sounds great!
Love the video and the lights and how clean you make your wiring look, kinda jealous, but gives me something to aspire to. Keep up the great work!
Super stoked you can appreciate the little stuff like that, thank you!

I love the overhead view - thanks for the video!
Glad you liked it!
Yay! More upgrades! I need for some lights for my bull bar - I'll check these out. Thanks for the video!
I highly recommend!
I never realized the land behind your house! I give you a lot of credit for not just wheeling that land! I don’t have that kind of self control
I've driven back there a few times for other videos a while ago but got harassed by a sheriff so I don't anymore.

I didn't know it got cold in California. I have a 2012 and I have a lightbar and i drive it everyday . But I'm liking the way these lights look.
A set of these would be great with your lightbar... the running light feature is so cool!

Right! Most of us have to "dual sport" our rigs and working out all the details is part of the fun!

I agree... I even have it down to remove the spare tire carrier in under 10 minutes.

They don't at all! From the overhead shot... if you watch closely it shows a fantastic pattern.
You can signal a Landcruiser to come and get you. Absolutely, a great idea. It will sell.
You mean easier to find broken down land cruisers at night 😂
I dig all the lights .. what led signal lights do you have ?
Those are from my JW Speaker headlight conversion... ruclips.net/video/qwHOvTxjqWQ/видео.html

I use a LP6 as a headlight on my Harley.
It's the best light on the market, in my opinion. Perfect form and function.

Maybe someday... I need to book some better movie roles for a while first 🤣

Batman shadow without your lower LP's on.
True!
Do they have a WK2 conversion?
Just find the right A pillar brackets for that and wire them in!
With those new KC light you don’t need a lite bar, they put out a lot of light
They do the trick!

I have the LP6's on the bumper for full glory but moving lights a bit higher and rearward towards the A pillar offers more side cornering visibility or "ditch light"
If I get the yellow rock guards for white light, will they be enough to have a yellow colored light?
I think that is the benefit of those.

I don't think that would work.

Can the backlighting be used on-road in California?
I'm not sure of the legality but have been running for several years.
