Wasn't prepared for how loud this beast was....... made the typhoon sound quiet in comparison.

I said the exact same thing to my dad. It kinda puts the Typhoon to shame noise wise.

It’s going to sound louder when the engine is pointing down towards you and not behind the jet. I assure you the typhoon would sound just as loud if not louder if it had the same.

I don’t get that vertical top door. The forces on it, as the aircraft builds speed, and the drag it must cause, is against physics!?

Definitely a better display here than at Cosford in June, perhaps because this was piloted by a RN pilot ;)

This was by far the poorest IAT I’ve been to.The Americans couldn’t put a F15 up or the RAF couldn’t fly a A400 these planes fly daily in the week.I fully understand the costs and commitments but people have been waiting 3 years for this event so was so disappointed especially the F35 display.

Find me a Harrier that's also stealthy, can go supersonic, just as easy to pilot, has superior air-to-air capability, and the most advanced avionics currently known. The Harrier's a marvelous plane, but the F-35B is significantly more advanced where it matters.

Absolutely agree so disappointed the emphasis was on display planes, the American display was non existent.F15s and A400s fly daily so why couldn’t they fly at the show.Has for the highlight of the show the F35 what a poor display I wish I hadn’t stayed till the end to see it.I understand the costs and commitments but people have waited 3 years for this.I’ve visited Fairford many times and seen some remarkably planes never to be seen again, this will be my last time I go.

@@buzzabuzza3494 Most fighter Sqns can't commit the time for displays with the current global situation, display routines have to be practiced a lot by senior pilots and then the routine has to be approved for the shows. The F-35 flown was an active fighter, it only did that short display as that is all it was allowed to do unfortunately.

While I will concede that that was a frighteningly stable hover, Harrier would have put on a much better performance. F35B is fundamentally incapable of Harrier tricks like bowing to the crowd, or turning up and accelerating into the vertical from a hover.

    • @alanh7495

The Harrier's steep climb backwards from the hover always impressed me

Harrier is a old relic that cannot even be in the same conversation with the F35B. Even the vastly superior to the Harrier AV8b pales in comparison. Nice to reminiscence..but reality is just that

    • @PhilbyFavourites
      @PhilbyFavourites 2 года назад

@@arthurlandsford6683 you’ve burst my bubble…. I saw the Harrier (P1127 - Kestrel) tethered hover at Royal Tournament inside Earls Court! In the late sixties. Now that was loud.
In support of the F35B, I’m reliably informed it’s linking knowledge is light years ahead of anything currently in production….

    • @greggsevern3277

These are war planes not party toys. Yes the harrier had “tricks” but keep in mind these things are designed for killing people and military targets. Huge investment in each plane means wanting to look after it so “party tricks” are not at the top of the agenda for the designers.

At £170m each an overpriced piece of junk. Slow, terrible flight envelope so it’s not a fighter, bomb load 2 so it not a bomber.

I do not know where you got that information from, but all of it is very false. Not everything the media says is right. The f35 is a very capable multirole fighter, probably the best all-rounder in the world.

Got to say that I thought the F 35 Lightning display on the Sunday was very disappointing. No sooner was it there than it had gone. Look back at the 2018 display and it was far more dramatic.
I came to Fairford specifically to see this plane, and won't be coming again if this is all it can serve up.
As for the Red Arrows, the current show with only seven planes is very average. The Italian Tricolori we are significantly better, and injected a lot of humour! Red Arrows are sadly now the third best in the world, the best being (and they always have been) the Blue Angels.
