Always great when GS Tongs puts on his research and design hat!! I like the end product Glen. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to the GS Tong family!
Gotta learn to crawl before you can walk, I guess... But I've been doing an awful lot of crawling for too long! Glad you like the end result. Thanks for all Robert, the very big donations, etc. and Happy Holidays.
I have learned so much from so many just watching them on RUclips and you are in that list. One of the things I learned from John Switzer over at Black Bear Forge was that when doing twists it helps to do lots of straightening as you go. I also learned from several other smiths that if you want a section to be protected and not move while twisting you can just quench that part before you start the twist. I would have loved to have seen you use a big wooden mallet to do adjustments so you could preserve the roundness of the bar in the twist section as you straightened it. Great video Glen!
I feel very honored to be among the folks who you have showed a thing or two that might help you. But in my case it might be more learning what not to do! Thanks for sure.
And this is why we love to support your channel! You have such an amazing mind with such creativity, we never know what we are going to get next! well done!
Not sure how amazing my mind is since my brain seems to dig me into holes I constantly have to dig out of. But at least I can still dig, out that is! You dig? Thanks Steve.
The end result was worth the pain of seeing it after the first twist, when it was very hard on the eyes! Live and learn I suppose. Thanks and have a very Happy New Year.
It reminds me of a basket twist, I wonder if it would be easier to make if you went that route after fullering the ‘holes’; just twist it tight without the pins, then back the twist off 1/4 to 1/2 a turn. I’ll have to try and remember to try it myself.
I thought about that but if I back twisted (like with a basket twist) the whole twist would open and not just the holes. But still what you say is worth a try since you never know... Thanks.
⭕️the finger guard might have been clamped from the start and the twist might have been easier to obtain the desired results. i could see your initial intent, something similar to a more European style sword handle, meant to add heft to offset the weight of the blade due to length. i like brother, merry Christmas
Yeah, I knew that as soon as I started twisting. I originally wanted to clamp it with the guard down but since it was on a funny angle I turn it upside down. Live and learn. Have a very Happy New Year my friend.
Thats really cool Glen, it looks like a square curb chain. Awesome result. I wonder if a jig can be fabricated to help make it easier and more repeatable. Happy holidays to you and your lady
@gstongs not quite, the kind of pipe wrench i talk about you can set up before heating the steel, then release just by letting the grip of the handle go, it is a type of tong with extreme leverage. look for the larger versions of Bacho 1420, say 600 to 800mm (24" to 30"). much better grip and very fast, if you need to go multiple turns you can easily use a piece of leather thong to hold shanks together in seconds
I had a friend whose father used to say, "I see said the blind man to his deaf wife as he picked up his hammer and saw." Anyway, I like the end result, very interesting.
There seems to be many variations of that "blind man" saying. Glad you like the end result since this was was a hair's width away from the scrap heap. Thanks for sure for all your support.
Unfortunately, proving my blacksmithing skills is like trying to prove the existence of dark matter in the universe. We know it's probably there but then again, it could all be donkey doo! Thanks Ron.
I started in 2019. I get alot more time in my shop in the winter. Summertime is booked solid with well...everything else!!😂 Practice , practice and more practice.... I have definitely gotten better. Keep on keeping on brother!!

That’s a really interesting concept, Glen. Always a pleasure to watch you experiment, my friend. Thanks for sharing.
I'm sure this can be made easier. Gotta crawl before you can walk, walk before you can run. I'll keep at it. Thanks for your support.
It's not how you start it , its how you finish it.....
This is why i love your channel Glenn!!!
My stubbornness pays off every now and again. This really was looking wacky at one point. Thanks for sticking with me my friend.
First admirer. The handle looks great. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours, Glen.🎅🤶🎄🎁🎊🥂🍾🎊
Thanks Scott. I hope you and your family have a Happy New Year my friend.

Ended up darn nice! Merry Christmas and and Happy Holiday season, Look forward to more fooling arond next year!

Nice new twist you thought of!
The twist I wouldn't give up on... Thanks Bryson.
Merry Christmas Mr Glenn. Blessed and happy New Year my friend
Crawford out 🙏🏼🔥⚒️🧙🏼
I hope the holiday season has been good for you Crawford. I wish you and your family all the best. Thanks.
Well, when I'm doing my blacksmith work, two more hands would come in handy. You're doing a fine job for sure.
I appreciate your support. Thanks.
I got one of these bending jigs from you, and I love it! Works perfectly!
Thanks for your recommendation Steve.
I like it! Wouldn't change a thing. Merry Christmas
Well, I might change some...but the end result is pretty pleasing. Thanks John and have a Happy New Year.
"I see", said the blind carpenter to his deaf friend, as he picked up his hammer and saw.
Merry Christmas, Glen.
Haha! Have a Happy New Year Dennis.
@gstongs Thanks, Glen. You too!
Good work, sir Glenn of Skulls
Good name - I really like my Bonehead Approved skull. I think I may get a mark made that is just the skull. Thanks for your direct support.
Thank you for all the great videos! I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
It's my pleasure. Thanks for watching and have a wonderful holiday season.
Merry Christmas, Glen!

Have a very Happy New Year! Thanks Whipple.

If you did that then it wouldn't be a original wtf twist lol

I was thinking the same. Clamp the guard with the vice. I like the look of the finished project 👍🗡️
Yeah, I knew that as soon as I started twisting. I originally wanted to clamp it with the guard down but since it was on a funny angle I turn it upside down. Live and learn. Have a very Happy New Year my friend.
Of course I'm glad you like the finished project. Thanks.
When all else fails,, best the crap out of it. 😂😂😂😂😂
I think I've used that line a few times now. Just shows how frustrating things can get for me! Thanks.
That was looking pretty wonky for a little while, but it turned out great! Have a Merry Chirstmas!
Yeah, it was absolutely wonky! Have a very Happy New Year!
Merry Christmas glen
Have a very Happy New Year Billy. Thanks.

Happy holidays to you and your lady
I'm sure some sort of jig could be made - a job for greater minds than my own! Thanks and have a very Happy New Year.
cool, made a request for one of the benders via email if they still available.
interesting take on the twist
Message transmitted, message received. Talk to you... Thanks.
I use a pipe wrench with a 16mm round welded on and jaws ground flat, it speeds the gripping quite a bit and is very adjustable.
I think my twisting wrench is somewhat similar... Thanks for watching.

Have you ever tried twisting chain?
No, have you? I only ask because that sounds very interesting to me and something I might try. Thanks for the idea Alan.
How much are the bending jigs
I'm selling this batch for $120 which includes the standard postal airmail from me. Thanks for watching.
Couldn’t you just twist it tight and then untwist slightly
No this is a wtf twist that's what makes it a wtf twist
Hey, here you are again! I like your consistency my friend. Thanks.
I think it wouldn't come out the same. But I guess there's only one way to know for sure. Thanks for watching.
@@gstongs makes sense! Cool experiment nonetheless 👍🏻👍🏻
Should have forge welded the finger guard first
I don't like forge welding but that's a good idea for sure. Thanks.
🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔 Und was mache ich damit 🤔
Good question. It could be the decorative handle on any number of items. Thanks for watching.

My forge recently arrived
I am a decade out anywhere near your skill
I started in 2019. I get alot more time in my shop in the winter. Summertime is booked solid with well...everything else!!😂
Practice , practice and more practice.... I have definitely gotten better. Keep on keeping on brother!!
If you had a decade under your belt you would surpass me by a mile! Good luck with you forging. Thanks.
Good point about practice... Thanks.
Your comment, "At this stage, a smarter man would move onto something else" is true. But then it wouldn't be Bonehead Approved, would it?
You make a very good point. I gotta be true to my logo! Thanks for sure.

I like much of the philosophy / lectures of Alan Watts. Just seemed like a really mellow fellow. Thanks for sharing that and for watching.
All art gos through an ugly stage.
I never heard that before - very good! Thanks.
Que sentido tem isso e muito desperdício e só envolver um pedaço de papel com esquadro e pronto
Regardless, thanks for watching
