Hi David that's great you have some. I don't have any of Glen's Tong's they are on a wish list tho! I like that they are short tined, I've even cut down some older tongs to use better! Great stuff thanks bro Anthony Kent
Absolutely top tier quality work! 👍 Those are some very well made tongs! I like how you dealt with the boss area. Quite different than most people do.. Keep up the fantastic work, and the great videos. Glad your post vice is getting put to work.
I've tried making tongs in so many different ways. This is my latest way though who knows, I may change this eventually. Very glad you like this and I appreciate your kind comment.
Glen, Great to watch you make those, I like the way you use hand tooling as "dies" to form the different areas instead of just beating them out. Seems more consistent....Dave
Even for someone who has very simple tooling like myself, there are certain tools that just make life easier, especially for operations that need to be repeated many times with consistency. Thanks.
I'm collecting everything I need to begin smithing and - desiring to make some tools of my own - was a tad daunted by the prospect of forging my own tongs. You've completely demystified the process for me. Thank you so much for your videos, and practical instruction and demonstration.
Wonderful efficiency of movement and technique as always :) Also, perhaps it's incidental to where you have had to set up, but having the strong-but-diffuse daylight coming in from behind you makes it much easier to see detail in the metal that might otherwise be lost to glowing metal and white balance compensation.
Thanks for your kind comment. Most of my camera work/setup is incidental as I don't have much choice given my space restrictions. So I'm glad the natural lighting is working out.
Just fine art,..... I built my forge to make knives. Old smithy told me to make all my tools. Now I enjoy making my tongs, punches better than knife blades.
The first thing I ever really made was a pair of tongs. And all these years later it's still mainly all I do. Talk about being in a rut... Thanks for your kind comment.
Really enjoyed this video! Great to see how easily you make it look creating such wonderful tongs! Well done! Need to get practicing, want to make my own set!
Like with everything, at first things seem complicated and there's a learning period needed for most of us. But once you have enough practice, things get less complicated and less mysterious. Thanks.
Norm. Hi Glen. Nice work. What make is your forge Also, I notice your always setting down. So you must have your anvil close to the ground. What make of anvil are you using? Thanks
Save the plugs/slugs that you punch from the tong halves, or from the hammers. You could drill a little hole in the center of them and make beads with them
I'm glad you find this interesting. I often admire how others go about tongs and I guess everyone borrows some aspects from everyone else. I've done tongs in so many ways and this is just the latest. But if I know myself, it's sure to be changed... Thanks.
If I wasn't filming myself and didn't do the decorative ends, I would say one hour to make these tongs. But when I film myself, it takes longer, at least an extra half hour. Thanks.
Heats tongs 15:50 uses regular wire brush to clean scale, 16:00 switches to what looks like a brass brush. I wonder if it is purely asthetic or if the transfer helps to retard oxidization. Either way I like it.
Andy is exactly right. I brush the tongs with a brass brush (when workpiece is slightly warm) to transfer some brass to the steel to help prevent rust. It will wear off with use but can always be reapplied. Thanks.
Love those bent knee tongs! What kind of angle grinder disc did you use to clean up the jaws? Do you fuller around the rivet hole to isolate it, or? Thanks, Jerry
well done Glenn. Great video as always. I have noticed that it does not seem as if your entire forge gets up to temp. I was wondering if that is by design or just something that happened?
I normally run my forge at a low psi - around 4psi. But the small firebox does evenly heat up. I think it may be the camera or camera angle that is misleading as far as color. Thanks.
Did I miss that "decorative ends video?" I will check. I don't give out kudos easily, but these tongs are worthy. Also note worthy ... the video was done well. The only segment of this video I would've enjoyed more is a voice over while you were rotating and indenting multi sides of each tong piece, but as the video continued I was able to see the reasons. Good job Glen.
I did the decorative end treatment a few weeks back. I have a lot of "half" completed project like that which I like to find a final use for, like this pair of tongs. I'm always thinking I need to find a better balance between talking too much and talking too little. Thanks for your suggestion.
Glen What kind of steel are your vises 1018 cold roll / hot rolled or some kind of heat treat stuff? thank you for all your vid's Be well and be safe.....
I changed the jaws on my machinist vise and they are hot milled, mild steel. I prefer the jaws of my vises be "softer" and smooth so as to not dig into hot workpieces. I'm not totally sure about the leg vise but it seems to be ductile iron, not very hard. Thanks.
Man I do love the simple elegant yet robust look of your tong. Great work ! Thanks bro Anthony Kent
They work well hold better than any other tongs I have in my shop
Hi David that's great you have some. I don't have any of Glen's Tong's they are on a wish list tho! I like that they are short tined, I've even cut down some older tongs to use better! Great stuff thanks bro Anthony Kent
They work well for my purpose. Thanks for the kind words.
Recommendations really help business. Much appreciated.
Just the usual high standard of craftsmanship I’ve come to expect from you. Really nice job Glen. Take care.
Tongs are the thing I feel most comfortable making. So I'm glad you like this one. Thanks.
Looking vey good looking tongs. Neat use of the "drumsticks" lol
I have a lot of "half" projects that I need to find a use for like this. Thanks.
Glen, I would bet if the average person saw those tongs prior to watching the video, they would think they were machined. Well done.
Mike.
I'm not sure that's true but I'll take it anyway. Thanks for your support.

Glen, your style is great and intrigues me. Love your videos...
Thanks for watching. This style is versatile and probably the style I prefer using most.
I'm very displeased that you couldn't make the tongs more complicated. Lol. Great job and a beautiful finished product;

Good morning, Glen! Hey, I saw where Dan Moss gave you a shout-out in his rivet-less tong video. Keep doing what you're doing, man. Cheers.
I saw that. Very glad to receive the shout-out. Thanks for letting me know.
Nicely made tongs and video. Inspiring stuff for making great tools with a simple process!
I am minimalistic in my approach to everything. Nothing I make could be considered fancy - just simple and straightforward. Glad you like it. Thanks.
I'm collecting everything I need to begin smithing and - desiring to make some tools of my own - was a tad daunted by the prospect of forging my own tongs. You've completely demystified the process for me. Thank you so much for your videos, and practical instruction and demonstration.
I'm glad my videos can help you in any way. Good luck in your blacksmithing. Thanks for watching.
Now those are a very Professional
Made tongs ! Beautiful ! I know you are proud of them !
Keep Hammering !
Thanks for your kind comment. This style of tong is probably my favorite to use. Good luck in your work.

I could watch that over and over. I love my tongs!!! Ty
I always feel I can do better on the next pair. But I guess that's the way a lot of craftsman feel about there own items. Thanks.
Really enjoyed this video! Great to see how easily you make it look creating such wonderful tongs! Well done! Need to get practicing, want to make my own set!
Thanks for your kind comment. I'm sure whatever tongs you make will work well.
You make it look effortless, great job !
My favorite tongs by far, I have several styles and use them all! But mine doesn't have that fancy end detail! Maybe I need some more....
I might have to leave the fancy ends to you. You recommending my tongs really helps... Thanks.
Nicely done, Glen. 👍
Glad you like this tong. Thanks.
Looks good as always. Your style of tong is my goal for smithing this summer. 👍👍👍
I wish you the best and appreciate your support.
These are awesome!! You made a pair of these about a year ago. They are sooo handy. Your work is very high quality. Than you sir!
You made a pair for me about a year ago. Thank you sir. I should really proof read before I send a message. Keep up the good work, sir!
Nice work Glen....as always!
Much appreciated.
Nice little tongs Glen, I particularly like that you do that extra bit with the handles ready to not only look good but take a tong clip
Я не кузнец но смотрю с удовольствием спасибо за работу
Hey Glen, you make it look very easy but of course it is not, thanks for sharing and take care 👍

I can see.myself making tools like crazy . I really enjoyed watching this video. Thank you
Awesome set if tongs great video
One of these days, I want to change up my video style. But when that day will come is another story. Thanks.
Great job Glen! Thank you for sharing.
Really good Glen love the style of your tongs, and these are really good and handy for holding stock that can pass through.
This is probably my favorite style of tong - pretty versatile. Thanks.
@@gstongs Yeah good aye?
Hey 👋 gst
Nice pair of tongs. Ur vice holds up very well 👍great work again. Thank you for sharing. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
I'm enjoying using that leg vise. Thanks.
Nice job, really like the brass finish as well, thank you.
Excellent work as always Glen.
I appreciate the kind comment.
Nicely done, as always.
Another great video Glen!!
As long as there are folks wanting to watch, I'll do my best to pt out videos. Thanks.
Excellent. Such clean forging.
Of the things I make, I feel most comfortable making tongs. Thanks.

Never thought of that. Might be able to make something with those slugs that my wife might appreciate. Thanks.
Nice tongs. Thanks for sharing your project....
Glen as usual mate love the video. Really interesting way of doing your tongs. Different to mine but I like it. Thanks for your hard work.
I'm glad you find this interesting. I often admire how others go about tongs and I guess everyone borrows some aspects from everyone else. I've done tongs in so many ways and this is just the latest. But if I know myself, it's sure to be changed... Thanks.
@@gstongs So true and that's life right? Always learning, always trying new things.
Fantastic job!!!
You made them look so easy!!
I really like that rounded detail at the end of the reins, will the tongs I've ordered have something like that on them?
que chulada de trabajo muy bonito
Enjoyed and gave a Thumbs Up also
Your continuing support is very much appreciated.
Love your tongs! It would take me over 2 hours to make even a subpar version of those tongs. How long was that for you? Thanks Glen. Jerry
If I wasn't filming myself and didn't do the decorative ends, I would say one hour to make these tongs. But when I film myself, it takes longer, at least an extra half hour. Thanks.
Muy bueno como siempre máster.
Thanks for your kind comment. Good luck in your work.
Ur work is soo clean, i wonder how u keep the scale down
muito caprichoso, parabéns ! satisfação de ver
Thanks for your support.
J'aime beaucoup tes vidéos parce que tu fais ça avec juste un marteau et une enclume tu n'as pas besoin de pleins d'outils comme certains.
I'm a simple man and my tools reflect that. Nothing fancy but that suits me. Glad you like this aspect of my work.
Good work
you forge at very low heats I think like a high red was the brightest. How come? are you using tool steel to make tongs or something?
Hey glen beautifully done!!! Could you tell me what size of stock you start with
What are you doing to get the gold-colored finish that I think I see? I like it. Does it burn off?

Hi Glen, nice video. i had a question: at 11:20 you are using both hands, so how are you holding the tong steady? with your leg somehow?
Now you know his secret... He has three hands!!
Beautiful!
Ótimo trabalho! 🇧🇷
Nice work. What it that button like object on the end of your anvil?
It is a magnet to reduce ringing of his anvil when struck.
As a new subscriber, how do I get ahold of a few of ur tongs

What steel do you use for your tongs?
Cool anvil!
Is it necessary to harden in water?
No
Jennyzosanga Fanai it is mild steel which cant be hardened
Amazing
Great and nice
What is the cost for a set of those tongs in this video
I normally charge $37 per tong. Thanks for watching.

Do you sell your tongs at all?

Raymond Scott Thompson...
Respectfully, what is your point other than to complicate something that is otherwise easy to make?
What is your anvil made of? Seems like tool steel... maybe D2?
