  • A quick guide on how and why to level efficiently in Oblivion. This method allows your character to gain 5 point in each attribute each level, and, more importantly, it allows you to reach 100+ endurance early on and massively increase your health pool late in the game.

    I spent so much time trying to get this shit and after literal YEARS of trying it I finally got how it works:
    Basically, say you want to level up efficiently your STRENGHT, INTELLIGENCE and ENDURANCE alright?
    First off you start by choosing as a major skill one skill of each of these attributes, for example:
    STRENGHT - you choose Blade
    INTELLIGENCE - you choose Conjuration
    ENDURANCE - you choose Block
    Here's how it works:
    Every time you level up 10 times any of the major skills you chose, in any order (for example you level up Blade by 3, Conjuration by 3 and Block by 4) you're going to level up.
    If you want to level up efficiently, focus on one attribute at a time:
    STRENGHT
    If you level up Blade 3 times, you have to level up a minor skill governed by the STRENGHT attribute 7 times, so you have 10 total skill points earned in STRENGHT in that level. You level up Blade 3 times, then Hand to Hand 7 times. 3 + 7 = 10, so you'll get +5 in STRENGHT.
    INTELLIGENCE
    You level up Conjuration 3 times, then Mysticism 7 times so you have 10 points earned for INTELLIGENCE and you'll get +5 INTELLIGENCE
    ENDURANCE
    You level up Block 4 times but before that you level up, say, Heavy Armor 6 times. 4 + 6 = 10 points earned for ENDURANCE so you'll get +5 ENDURANCE
    Of course be careful to level up all your minor skills before hitting 10 points for the major skills, otherwise you're going to level up without getting +5.

      ye but isnt this boring ? i started playing with a correct build but if i dont run and do the minor skills which is grindy i will level up and wont have a +5. i chose heavy armor and blade . so i have to get 5 and 5 on each for the +5 on str but at the same time i play a mage so i will lose the +5 on other attributes . to do it you need to grind minor skills every level for 30 minutes adn then play for 30 minutes

    • @dr.awesomeisawesome9567
      @dr.awesomeisawesome9567 3 года назад

      Omg yes

    • @davidestefanizzi7926
      @davidestefanizzi7926 3 года назад +12

      @@jakardvalentine3377 Yes you have to be pretty committed to it. You can do it without grinding that much if you do it in reverse.
      For example if you run a mage like you do, instead of choosing say Destruction (which you use a lot) as a major skill and say Alteration as a minor skill, do the opposite.
      Choose Alteration as a major so you only have to level it up 3 times and you can safely use destruction as much as you want since you have it as a minor skill and it's not a big deal if you level it up a lot.

    I've spent 40 days on this game literally trying to perfect my character design . I've made more than a hundred characters over and over again because I wasn't satisfied with my custom class. I always wanted to play on very hard and master every step of the leveling system. Trying to get 3-5's every level . Constantly starting over and over and over again. I Fucking hate this endless cycle of nonsense. I wish I was a noob, I wish I sucked at oblivion and never worried about this . I remember the good old days when I started oblivion . The days that I didn't even worry about making a custom class or perfecting my character . Until the day that picking a Breton and a high elf became a nightmare. Choosing the 7 major skills correctly . Using a blunt weapon most of the game even after you chose blade as your major but I didn't want to level up , starting a new game at level 12 because you realized that choosing block blade and heavy armor is keeping you from getting +5 in endurance. Starting over again because I stupidly chose mercantile as my major so I can control my leveling, but only made me angry because restoration was a better option . STARTING AGAIN BECAUSE MY CHARACTER IS TOO SLOW WITH SPEED AT 35, AND HEAVY ARMOR IS MAKING ME RUN LIKE IM HANDICAPPED. Starting over because I chose high elf and I'm getting raped in oblivion realms by literally everything. FUCK YOU OBLIVION . This horrific nightmare still haunts me today . I was playing oblivion today and I just gave up . There's no such thing as a perfect character , it's make belief . We all want it but never got it. Screw you Bethesda . You did this on purpose . My life is never going to be meaningful unless I make the perfect character .

      One of my favorite spells is Drain Health 100 in 100 feet for 1 second.
      Makes those 3 v 1 matches end pretty much instantly.
      Also made a lethal weakness spell that I pair with a damage spell.
      Basically 100% weakness to everything but poison for 10 seconds, stacked with the burden + drain strength thing you mentioned earlier. I finish them off while they can't move with a spell that has a 100 point each Drain/Damage (Regular)/Fire/Frost and Shock Damage combo all on touch (To make the cost lower).
      Feels so unfair sometimes, it is basically a public execution at that point.
      If my calculations are right, that is 1,300 damage with a single attack (Assuming they don't have any initial resistances).

The thing I love the most about Oblivion is the gameplay, the stories, exploration.. and it completely removes the tedium/anxiety of having to level efficiently or track your skills.

    Dude I watched your video a few years ago when I first started playing Oblivion. I had an obsession with creating the strongest character possible, and this video was a huge help on figuring out the 5/5/5 or 5/5/1 system, and why Endurance is so important to max out first. I started keeping an Excel sheet to record my skill numbers after every level up, and plan out which attributes to raise on each level. Maxing out every attribute and skill is half the fun for me.
    Anyway I appreciate this video for getting me on the right track. I'm on my 8th or 9th playthrough and I've fine-tuned all the advanced strats by now, basically achieving God mode by getting 100% reflect damage/resist magic and two-shotting every boss with the Hatreds Soul bow and arrows. Oblivion has become my favorite game of all time.

    I gave your vid a like and I don't do that often. Just started playing again after 10 years. Just started a third character after watching your video and reading UESP.
    Breton female, Mage sign, Endurance + Luck attributes, Stealth specialization. Majors are Armorer , Blunt , Hand to Hand , Heavy Armor , Destruction , Light Armor , Mercantile .
    I think there's something to be said for not picking a major skill that you have a racial boost for ; to allow more level-ups. Choosing luck as a favored attribute to allow more level-ups. Mercantile was slow to level for me so I picked it. I use blade only, block a lot and level with light armor for now.
    I also got some great tips from your comments, like the boots of springheel jack comment so thanx for that. Super video Mr. Stewart, thank you sir.

    The one rule I stick to when I set out on creating a max-stats character is that I always pick one major skill for each of the 7 different attributes.
    My current character has these Major Skills
    Strength - Blade
    Intelligence - Conjuration
    Willpower - Alteration
    Agility - Marksman
    Speed - Light Armor
    Endurance - Heavy Armor
    Personality - Illusion
    Pick and choose as you like, but sticking to this rule will allow you to spread the 10 Major Skill points per level up across the 3 different attributes you want to train, and gives you a choice of 9 skills to use at any time.
    I do this to try and negate some of the issues that are built into the oblivion levelling system. If you need to sell stuff to get rid of excess carry weight or make some cash, you’ll run the risk of increasing your mercantile skill. Equally, preventing yourself from levelling up athletics & acrobatics is virtually impossible when playing the game.
    If you aren’t arsed about a lost skill point here or there then it’s not an issue, but if you’re trying to get perfect stats it can be a real ball ache getting a skill increase in something you didn’t want to increase. Having one major skill for each attribute that you can consciously decide on wether you’re going to use it or not is a massive help.

    Absolutly OP character build = Altmer + Vampire + Atronach + 100% Chameleon (just to be safe since Altmers have low HP). With all the Attributes and Skills capped this build is just insane. First, with so much mana you'll be able to cast custom spells that have a VERY high mana cost but will simply destroy pretty much anyting in front of you and honestly, not having auto-regen for the mana isn't much of a problem, there are a lot of ways to gain mana and the Atronach sign already gives Spell Absorption 50% on Self to begin with. Second, in true vampire form your Athletic and Acrobatics will both reach 120 (and even more with enchanted stuff, the Felldew exploit etc...) so you'll run and jump like crazy. And finally, 100% Chameleon allows you to be almost always completely undetectable so no need to really worry about the character's low HP. I admit this build is a total game-breaker, but that's exactly the point, and why I like it so much. Being a vampire demi-god can be so satisfying after all! :)

    • @nezkeys79
      @nezkeys79 4 года назад +7

      Because if you gain too many levels quickly in the major abilities (by putting stuff there that levels quickly) you can level up before having +10 +10 +10 in your chosen three attributes. If you overlevel your minor skills you wont accidentally level up. Its still inefficient to have +11 or more though but at least you can get +5 +5 +5 easier when you level up. Putting skills you barely use in major skills makes levelling up harder though so I prefer to make my majors stuff I use
      Morriwind was amazing because you just did a "preparation" of going to a trainer for your skills associated with the atrribute and paid them the necessary amount of times before going out to play the game. This way you guaranteed +5 +5 +5.

    If you want to be a tanky warrior, you must take magic or dexerity based skills. Don't make much sense roll play wise but that's how this game works. And never ever waste a point in charisma because it useless.

I think it gives you levels based on how much damage you took on the fall, so it’s handy to have duped health potions.

    I have been playing this since it first came out and just found out hand to hand is best way to play. If you go hand to hand, not only do you do damage with your fists to health but, you also drain their stamina and make them fall down. Case in point, go to the arena and fight using only hand to hand. You will notice enemies will fall to the ground, thus proving they also lose their stamina. Hope this helps anyone still playing this game.

      By far the most OP play style at high levels is a stealth archer. If you max out Agility, Marksman, and Sneak and get three Hatreds Soul bows in your inventory so they auto-recharge magic every time you switch one out, you can one-shot or two-shot almost anything. I've killed Umaril, Jyggalag, and Mankoran with two long-range sniper shots. Not to mention the first shot completely stuns enemies (if it doesn't kill them outright) so you can take your time and snipe the frozen target again, which almost always kills them.

Then, punch the shit out of it for Hand2Hand skill (Strength). Conjuration will level so either use that to level up or make it a minor skill. Sleep in the bedrolls for instant HP and Mana recovery.

      Illusion is overpowered when you master it and create custom spells. For example, create a frenzy+invisibility spell and you can make enemies fight each other without anyone attacking you. The next one that I realy like is command humanoid+ command creature with a large aoe and you can basicly create a army of followers. One of the most OP spells in the game is paralyze. A way I used to do it was, I chose a dark elf, picked the thief sign, used magic as the specialization, blade and destruction as two major skills, the rest can be whatever you don't want to use, then for minor skills it was hand to hand and conjuration as the two substitutes for intelligence and strength which will give you an easy +5 in those two categories. Whenever you wanted to really actually level up, you just use destruction magic, as for blade, find the master trainer and lvl up +5 every time before you have to rest, you can do this to the point to where if you really watched what you lvl, you can get a +5 in all attributes before you have to rest, even though you can only choose a few every level up. You'll notice that all your attributes will be all about 50+ when you first start the game out as well. That was my battle mage build though.

    This leveling guide is very good. Thanks for the endurance tip by the way David. I am still at the beginning of the game..In my cell leveling sneak all the way up to 100% Yup..just tape that controller stick shut and let her rip. Anyway i use the style where you just make all the skills you can control fully to level up but not really need. Meaning i make almost every magic skill my mayor ones. I am Always the Assassin type of warrior so i don't move that much upright attracting everything like a magnet. So skills like Light Armor or Heavy armor. Just don't wear it or don't get hit is basically the jist of it. Everything is managable except for the skills where you either move or require to fight. So whatever you are fighting with..do not make it a mayor skill. The rest is basically counting. Every 10 points you go up in a skill gives you 5 points for your perk it governs. I love to make the game completly managable that way. With that said i totally raise that endurance first choosing the warrior class or Lady next up. Strenght is definatly a good second then magicka to boost magic. Good thing is you can raise 3 perks with 5 points every level. So that can be raised all in tandum if you train the right skills. Personally i Always get Sneak and speechcraft out of the way from the get go. Train them to level 100 as fast you can and check in 5 points for them. There are plenty of skills left to raise it's governed attribute to a full 100. And for the record. I am playing the unmodded ps3 version of the game. I am just not a fan of modding period. I have seen what it did to games like Skyrim. Lots of neat stuff but it really does not make the Original game any better. It just drules out the playtime. The game was and still is wack on its own. That said some mods do look handy. But when i play i am pretty good in counting and knowing what i raise. It is really not all that hard. Even jumping or running can be managed if you like me literally sneak all the time.....ohw and don't jump LOL.

    • @irieite9666
      @irieite9666 5 лет назад

      Be careful. If you level up sneak all the way you will get +5 attributes boost for Agility only. When it comes to a fight you will be way behind your enemies unless of course you can sneak kill them.
      The idea for this guys video is not to race stats up to 100 but to ensure every level up you gain +5 skill multipliers.
