Packing is very important with Tascam DAT decks. If impacted, the power supply PCB which carries the weight of the transformer, can crack or even split right in half. Loading belt is harder to access on some later models such as DA-45HR. The DA-30MKII is my go-to machine for most DAT tape transfers, except the very long tapes which Tascam machines just spit out and have to be played on a Sony model.
The spring is there because they had a problem with the prototypes not closing the drawer completely. It's in fact an engineering failure of the drawer mechanism solved cheaply.
That DA30 got pulled in and out of a rack a few too many times,don't understand why guys don't leave a bit of space between rack equipment so its not scratched to hell when you remove it,another nice repair video though
I bought this unit from a guy in Canada requesting that he ship it directly to David. If I had my way I would sue him for packagin it like this. The SOB.

So the mk2 overlapped the 40 then because that was it's timeline. I believe the only difference between the da30 mark 2 in the Mark 4 is the ba40s ability to do the CD text if I'm not mistaken.

Da30 mkii was made from 1995 to 2005
Original da30 was made from 1990 to 1999
So the mk2 overlapped the 40 then because that was it's timeline. I believe the only difference between the da30 mark 2 in the Mark 4 is the ba40s ability to do the CD text if I'm not mistaken.
The DA30MKII really should have had a more different model number because it's a fairly different beast than the original DA30.
