To think that he wanted to be a teacher, and Yu Yu Hakusho centered around the overall growth of a teenage delinquent! In the manga, we even see Yusuke make a living for himself by setting up a ramen stand. It certainly sounds like he had the right attitude to be a teacher.
@@evillain19xxProps to Takanaka. Such a good character. We need principals like that in schools. The scene of him at Yusuke’s funeral in the first episode broke me. I was bawling.
If there is one word to describe the diehard Hunter X Hunter community, it's patience. We are used to waiting, and we all just hope Togashi does whatever he can to make sure his health stays as good as he needs to be. Even its most selfish form of wanting more content from him, he has a lot of well wishers for his health.

@@legrang.archives I understand what you mean but I would like to make a slight correction. You are absolutely correct that most SHONEN manga readers are younger/ stuck in those years, but seinen manga is for adults and tend to have more grown up stories. So my only correction is to say that it’s most Shonen readers, not most manga readers. However you can still have great Shonen work that doesn’t take place in school (one piece, Dragon Ball, Jojo’s, Spy x Family, etc) and I feel those creator tended to have more life experience and more creativity to be able to tell a good story that kids can relate to without making it all about high school/middle school stupidity. Which is why my theory is that many mangaka’s just finished high school, did nothing, and just created stuff based on what they knew… which is school.
A long time ago a artist friend of mine was telling me that this time period had a name and meaning. I can't remember but he broke down the reason why so many stories took place during this time. It's a time in life where you're establishing new connections and developing character. It's like once you hit the 30s most people met all the people they're going to meet. Lifestyle is already been established. You already know who you are and really don't challenge yourself anymore. So writing on characters in that phase of their life will be kind of boring.
I read the JJK manga and you could tell that its power system is heavily influenced by nen. Nen is definitely the best power system out there because it's incredibly fleshed out and detailed and yet its till has potential to grow. HxH is my favorite anime/manga of all time and it's crazy how the both versions of the anime are really great.
Nen is limited by its complex structure. When random shit happens like Gon becoming an adult it feels like an ass pull. Nen is literally the same power system as Haki with the difference being Haki is left with a broad horizon because of it’s explanation that leave possibilities open. HxH has the most overrated power system I’ve ever seen simply because people think more words means better. When they were explaining observation Haki was broad and simple but we got the point….”sense enemies presence” because if it’s explanation it made sense that guys could develop future sight. In HxH they took almost an entire chapter to explain quite literally THE EXACT SAME THING! Power system is the most overrated thing I’ve ever seen because they take so much to explain it but when you put them side by side Haki and DF is nearly the exact same thing except it isn’t limited by the boundaries of the explanation.
@@jamesonedwardsii4943dear god what a long winded comment, it’s all drivel. I don’t think you paid much attention to HxH or perhaps you just watched segments. Everything you’ve said indicates you’re just an Oda dickrider.
I feel for Togashi... when you're trying to compete/compare your manga art to Toriyama and Inoue you're bound to break your back... His story, character and world was definitely up to the challenge but art-wise, trying to compare to the two manga goats (not even counting his own wife another legend on her own) is just ridiculous pressure I can't even imagine. Thank goodness we all still got these amazing series in YYH and HxH....
Was he though? I'm thinking artists like to do their own thing, I get that there are bound to be competitive blood if you're in the highest level like the three yu mentioned. But judging by their art and story telling? They are so different, that I think if there was any, it was miniscule they never bothered to listen to it. Each of these mangakas are very talented with their art, although if objectively judged, the best looking one is Inoue's, but creative wise, I'd give it to Togashi. And again, these three's art style is so unique that comparing art style feels dumb.
I mean just to prove my point. I grew up with these 3 anime's from dbz, yu yu hakusho(ghost fighter), to slam dunk. And I tell you, I loved drawing boxy goku, and boxy vegeta, picollo my favorite as he was not too boxy. I loved to copy the cool aesthetic of yyh and how their characters are being treated. I love the realism of slam dunk, and the quirkiness of the main character. Art wise, they are quintessentially the base form of manga, more so togashi's if you watched carefully.
Inoue art is just godtier. I remember when i was 15 (2007) i sent an english resume to Takehiko Inoue to be his appretice. Lol!!! That was weird and insane, I doubt he saw it but that’s just how inspiring he is as an “artist”
@@Rainherself Lmao. I feel bad for you in your cringe era. Imagine having subpar art and asking Inoue sensei to be his assistant when you probably don't even know japanese. Btw. That's not how it works in japan. I know you were young but your youthful audacity is hilarious.
To say he created 2 masterpieces is an understatement ngl. Both yuyu hakusho and hunter x hunter revolutionized how shounen manga were written going forward and the standard we have nowadays were set by those 2 manga.
well yuyu hakusho is a masterpiece but hunter x hunter is just an unfinished train wreck. to the point it's kinda hard to believe that they were actually created by the same person. much less that the less polished series is developed by the older more experienced writer.
You are just trying to sound edgy. Hunter x Hunter is easily a masterpiece and there are so many reasons to think so. Characters, character development, power system, worldbuilding, the fights, the depth, the rich themes, that sense of danger and realism that you rarely find in other Shonen ..If it's finished, HxH will be the greatest Shonen of all time with no competition.
For me, it was the first tournament to become Genkai's student. I was already watching dbz at the time so, technically already into anime but, when I caught the episode where the demon slowly breaks mini Kuwabara's arm... I felt like I had graduated to a new level and I was hooked. It only escalated from there and I was all in lol
@@silentandcliche yah the genkai tournament was also really good. Honestly the whole thing was good. Demon world tournament was probably the weakest and even that one was still good.
I always wondered why YYH show ended suddenly … I thought it was literally the best anime ever. For how short it was. So sad to know such hard work was abusively taken from him.
D. Gray-Man is going through something similar from what I've read. She is dealing with arthritis which obviously would hinder anyone who works with their hands. Whether or not she had other issues I'm not sure. Just heard there's lengthy gaps between chapters and she really wants to finish it. Surprised these people are so dedicated to do all the writing and art and not bringing in other artists to help. You might've made a video about Katsura Hoshino already, I haven't checked.
Yu Yu Hakusho remains my absolute favorite anime. Not worth the suffering of its creator, by any stretch, but we have all been blessed by his vision as a result.
Another mangaka who may have benefited from the lesson Shounen Jump learned from breaking Togashi-sensei was D.Gray-man creator, Katsura Hoshino sensei. She had serious health problem, and eventually get to move D. Gray-man to a seasonal released magazine instead of getting being canceled entirely.
I clicked on this video just to get some background noise I didin't expect a objective, well researched, written and paced full on documentary that deserved my full and undivided attention. Instantly subbed
Your theory about the Hunter Hunter title makes so much sense! Thanks for sharing, and just know that from here on out that's what I'll think of it when I see it.
9:36 ISEKAI means "parallel/another world". If you talk about reincarnation, it's TENSEI. Yuusuke never goes to "paralel world" just because truck-kun got him. He might have gone to the spirit realm later after dealing with Toguro, but his main adventure STILL takes place in the place he's in. Remember: Reincarnation (TENSEI) is reborn from a baby. Yuusuke just came back alive from the dead. TWICE! So yeah, It's not isekai genre. Not even a tensei. "Magic Knight Rayearth" IS isekai. "Escaflowne" IS Isekai. It's not a hot take, but you just didn't know better. Isekai doesn't mean you got killed and transferred to another world. Geez.

Sure it technically falls under "character growth" but man is it all the most boringly cliché direction to take those characters.

Yu Yu Hakusho was really big in our country philippines even now it has reruns from time to time. Great research youve done bro. Never heard his life story until now great work 👍
It's a very interesting detail that Togashi liked the art of H.R. Giger (Alien). You can see the inspiration and influence looking back at the Chimera Ant hill and character design of Meruem.
We're never going to see the end of Dark Continent Saga, seeing how long the Succession War Saga has lasted & it will likely continue for a few more years. The Actual Dark Continent will be something Togashi-san will probably die exploring & we'll read whatever chapters he submits in his old age. I wish him a long & happy life, although he won't be anywhere close to finished 25 years from now.
Hunterxhunter is a greatly written story. I was captivated while watching the anime and hope to see it one day completed, and togashi's back health improved.
Yusuke is the best written and most relateable anime protagonist of all time. Gon is basically the result of Togashi being fascinated with child psychology and responding to the criticism that he’s characters from YYH looked and acted like they were in their mid 20s instead of children. Gon is the result of asking yourself “what would happen if you actually gave a 12 year old boy super powers at that stage of mental development?” And the story is a tragedy instead of a hero’s journey. He’s the GOAT for me. YYH is still watchable 25 years later and has one of the best English dubs of all time. Love it.
It's a bit of a misconception that Sasuke's backstory is significantly inspired by Kurapika. Both Kurapika and Sasuke are inspired by a Japanese legend called The Tale Of The Gallant Jiraiya. In the story, Jiraiya & Tsunade are the last infant survivors of 2 clans that have been massacred by Orochimaru who is possessed by a giant snake spirit. They are trained and raised by a hermit Senso Dojin to avenge their clans and restore their honour. There's even a coup involved. Sound familiar? The only real inspiration taken from Kurapika is the clan having red eyes, which I'm sure isn't the first iteration of it either. The elemental powers is something that Sasuke has in the 1979 anime Sarutobi Sasuke (the only version you can find is called Ninja the Wonder Boy). He even uses hand seals to use them. Pretty much everything in Naruto is inspired by Japanese folklore but Yoshihiro Togashi's influence is there.
@@sigurdtheblue It's not hard to come up with a new and original story, the hard part is to create a world that is interesting and able to sell well. The last part is especially hard, because you need to tell a story that hooks both your future readers AND the publisher you intent to contract with. Mangaka are bit like cooks. Some are decent others are fantastic, but all have to put in lots of work for not all that much money. I say cooks, because for the most part they take existing concepts and ideas aka ingredients and mash them up into something that will either "taste" delicious, or forgetful. Another thing mangaka and cooks have in common: Very small mistakes can ruin their reputation and/or lose them lots of customers.

That was so common idk if it still is but in the 90's and 2000's they just wouldnt let series end. Dbz's writing started suffering so bad but they just wouldn't let the series die. Toriyama wanted to end it at dragon ball and pretty much after every arc in dbz but they wouldnt let it. Now he just accepts that's all people want from him so he just says sure whatever and keeps going.
When i watched HxH 2011, i used to see comments of people saying that it is copy of dragon ball, naruto and many more animes or characters because they think that this is a modern anime not old like one peice but they don't know that naruto is inspired by HxH and probably the other animes refrences too
The main villain is a cell rip off, the characters literally power up and gon goes supersaiyan...hair and all. They use killuas sister like the dragon balls to bring gon back. It's a dbz rip off. That being said, it's still a good show but let's not cope and say it's not ripping from dbz.
@@thomasffrench3639 yeah, maybe if cell wasn't almost carbon copied I'd take your comment as a valid response. The plot holes and ass pulls that came with the introduction of nen are bad enough, like you'd think if these powers were so prevalent then the viewer and main characters would know about them from day 1. then the author pulls this borderline plagiarism.
Earned yourself a sub thats for sure. Very educational video man, glad I found this. Shame how the industry treated him. Considering how populair YYH was, it's kinda weird how he had no pull right? Like oh if you take a break you get cancelled - how is that a financially good decision for shounen jump at the time? Hey guys we can either skip a week and make a bit less money because of that, or we can cancel him for not deliviring and lose money by losing the entire series as a whole. What's that, option 2 sounds better? Makes no sense to me. And it sucks that his future work is so delayed because of that kind of treatment back then :(

Makes me really appreciate oda and his pacing for one piece. Even though it just had over a month break because he had eye surgery he's back at it. It's as impressive as the story itself
I hate one piece tbh, but odas work ethic is unrivaled. He has made so many chapters of something I hate very consistently. Althugh shows like hxh are bloated with complication because of how absurd some of the nen abilities have become. We went from "my nen has the properites of rubber" to a single nen ability requiring 3 pages of text to explain how it works. its no wonder he cant get out more than 1 chapter per season having to remember all that as opposed to "this guy has the ability of crackers".

Anime usually get rebooted if the anime was incomplete for example Hunter x Hunter, Shaman King, Full Metal Alchemist, etc. The chances of Yu Yu Hakusho having a reboot is varying from zero to extremely unlikely. @@JesusChrist2000BC I'm pretty sure 95% of those voice actors are still very active. I think Togoro would be one I'm not sure about but I honestly don't see why any of them would say no.
Yes. Hunter x Hunter is definitely beloved and definitely controversial, some of which, I'm sure, had to do with the anime adaptations, neither of which is entirely the same as the manga, though in very different ways. I'll always be glad we got what we did from YuYu Hakusho, though. That series is still my favorite anime to this day. I hope Togashi has found a good balance between art and life, for the sake of his health and wellbeing.
Can you elaborate on what specifically is controversial? I've always believed Yu Yu Hakusho was his best work but I tend to see HxH get all the recognition. Rarely have I ever heard people say anything negative about it outside of being forced to wait.
@@tehemail.7062 Yes. There's a reason for that. HxH is a couple of different things, that make it difficult to criticize. For one thing, it's a shonen that has roughly the same pacing as a sports anime, and only slightly higher stakes; at least at the start. Even as far along as episode 75 of the 2011 anime, it mostly came across like a less-intense version of Yu-Gi-Oh. Now, not every HxH fan liked Greed Island, but the point is that this early section of HxH did exist, and went on for a long time, with relatively light stakes and slow pacing. Aside from Killua, and perhaps Kurapika, there's basically no element of the story that seems to be designed as a hook. If you're interested in the characters and their goals, you'll keep watching, and if you're not, you'll probably stop watching after just a few episodes. Because of this, I think most people who just don't like HxH also haven't seen much of it, and therefore don't feel that they can comment on it credibly. Especially due to the second factor... The anime critics all love it. HxH is a show that uniquely targets anime critics, for some of the same reasons that Konosuba and One Punch Man did. Namely, it's very different from other anime in its genre, taking a completely different approach to both shonen and storytelling in general. Because of this, it does things that few other shonen anime have ever done, but it also *avoids* doing things that other shonen anime have been doing successfully for decades. Let me give an example. Gon is, from moment 1, a protagonist who's introduced and defined by his motivation, rather than his abilities. You do see him catch one large fish, but even that is mostly about fulfilling his goals to become a hunter, and it's not like what you'd get from a Dragon Ball, or a Naruto or a One Piece, where the character reveals their motives, but it's their special abilities that hook you in. Naruto, for example, makes the biggest impact in his first episode by beating up a higher-ranking ninja who'd gone evil. Goku chops wood with his bare hands, catches a giant fish, survives a gunshot with ease and picks up and throws a jeep. Luffy demonstrates his rubber man powers and uses them to defeat a group of evil pirates. Now, you also learn, in those episodes, that Goku wants to help Bulma find the dragon balls, Naruto wants to be the greatest Hokage, and Luffy wants to find the One Piece, but it's not what attracts you to the characters at first. They each have a hook, and it's front and center. Gon's isn't. That said, generally, tropes are tropes for a reason, and your average anime-viewer may not be interested in watching a show that's trying to get them to focus on motivation rather than spectacle. However, for a critic, who's seen dozens of the former type of anime, and is tired of them, the very fact that HxH is a change of pace is more likely to be appealing to them than to a casual viewer. A person who doesn't care for HxH might watch a few episodes, see lots of running and exposition, check out some reviews online, (which rarely go into any specifics about what they liked or didn't like, instead name-dropping a bunch of arc names, any one of which would represent a time commitment of several hours to experience for themselves) shrug and go back to watching One Piece. They might leave a comment, saying that they suspect they're being trolled, or something else like it, but if so, it would be easily-ignored and probably wouldn't cause much of a stir. Keep in mind, all of this applies to HxH before Chimera Ant, because at that point, the only people who've gotten that far are the fans or very, very diligent (and not very numerous) haters. In a very real way, it's the kind of story that sculpts its own viewer base, which keeps most contrary discussions from forming. Then it overturns the previous mood on a dime. Now, I also said that the anime versions introduce their own problems, and I think they definitely do. The 1999 anime built dramatic tension like other Shonen do, but that was a divisive point between HxH fans, some of whom didn't care for it, while others were disappointed it didn't keep going. The 2011 version completely alters the viewer's understanding of Gon's motivation by not revealing that his father didn't abandon him, which is huge, because if you don't know that about Gon's father, the overall impression of Ging is a selfish jerk who only cares about himself, making Gon's motivation even more of a challenge to sympathize with. Both contained censorship of the scene where Hisoka slits a bunch of throats in the swamp, which makes it ambiguous whether he actually killed anyone or not at that point, thereby making it harder to feel nervous around him for the rest of the series. If you need a TL:DR, it's this; it's different. Very different. Too much for some. That can and has caused arguments, though for many reasons, they're few and far between.
@@mytruepower2 Interesting interpretation. I always saw it differently though. I don't think he was just trying a new approach at shounen anime. Imo, as this video alludes to, I think he was merely losing interest after being overworked for so long. He seemed to constantly want to do other things both in manga and outside of it but was constrained to this project, either by the fear of letting down fans and/or by the publisher. So he compromised by forcing it all into the same production. That said, I didn't really see that significant a negative reaction to it. HxH is still considered his magnum opus despite the flaws some have highlighted. I rarely see others that point to his other works as his best.
@@tehemail.7062 So you think he put less effort into HxH, and it ended up accidentally being something that other people thought was brilliant? I admit, I didn't see it that way. I do certainly consider Yu Yu Hakusho his best work myself, though.
There are no less the 5 other full ass anime that are inside of the HXH world. Phantom Troupe could be its own show, The Zoldyks, Neteru, Ging Freecs, and the Flavor Hunters. Not to mention Game Island
It'd be cool if he revisited YuYu to rework what he felt could've been better or add more story. The one thing I liked about the ending is that it showed how the strongest characters were still just small fish in a much bigger sea.

Just a quick note here: "shonen", "seinen", "shoujo", "josei", all those things, they're not genres, they're demographics. Both Lucky Star and Berserk are considered seinen, because the demographic they target are adult males, however their genres are completely different from one another. I know on the internet you often see people using those denominations as genres, and in a very high level they usually work like that, but it's important to distinguish genre from demographic, as it solves a lot of misunderstandings regarding a series' content. Calling a series "shonen" might give you an idea of what you'll find on it, but it doesn't define the contents like their genres do - Kochikame is a shonen, but it's a gag/comedy and slice of life series, while Naruto is also a shonen manga but it's an action and adventure series.
Your example of Lucky Star and Berserk doesn't really work tho. You can have 2 very different mangas (/shows, movies etc) with the same genre since every piece can have multiple genres. Like both attack on titan and toradora are in the genre of drama and mob psycho is just as much of a supernatural show as Serial Experiments Lain yet those are very different shows. "genre: a style or category of art, music, or literature". Shounen, seines etc are definitely categories.
Yeah battle manga is the genre. It makes these videos confusing because “all the most popular mangas where Shonen mangas” like Togashi realized that he needed to write in Shonen Jump, when he already was writing in it.
How is Lucky Star a Seinen series? It feels like a comedic Shoujo series, of course there's nothing wrong with adult men enjoying Shoujo series even if Masculinists want to say otherwise. Target Demographic Overlap is an interesting concept, I'm making a series that I don't care if it gets labeled as Shoujo or Shonen because it fuses aspects of both. I'm not as familiar with Seinen & Josei as they typically aren't as mainstream, although I commonly just think of them as Shonen & Shoujo only Mature. When I think of Seinen, Berserk is always the 1st thing to come to mind. Is "Drops of God" Josei? Apple TV never specified, although my best guess is that it is my only actual exposure with Josei Manga.
@@WaterKirby1994 Lucky Star is actually a Shonen, but many of the Cute Girls doing cute things shows are Seinen like K-On or Bocchi the Rock. This is because the young adult demographic is most likely to be interested in cute girl shows, so it makes a lot of sense. I don’t see how a girl would be interested in that. It’s also why Banana Fish is a Shojo. It doesn’t really matter if something is more mature, what matters is what group of people would be interested in the manga, which is why Chainsaw Man and Attack on Titan are Shonen.
I'll always say the ending after the election arc is the offical ending of Hunter X Hunter. Enjoy the journey as it's often more important than the destination. Goal/arcs in life are variable for everyone. Some people have life long pursuits while others just move from routine to routine. Most parts of peoples lives are not compeling narratives arcs. Great Video. You did some extensive research and I learned a lot. The only thing that bothered me was how you kept reusing the same old videos of Togashi. There was a legendary feel when turning on Yu Yu hakisho, the intro hits your heart with wonder and nostalgia just as the outro does even when watching for the first time it still hits home. The intro always clouded my mind with this comfort to where loneliness and the feeling of not fitting in or belonging doesn’t exist, hard to explain but the show evolved into hunter x hunter which by all means was booming in the coolness factor, and cleverness just like the clever animation ideas in jojos bizarre adventure, but it lacked the atmosphere that Yu Yu had something I think we may never get back. I was born in 95 but I guess my soul belongs to Yu Yu hakisho I really do wish I could go back to those days of Yu Yu hakisho and Nintendo 64 with my cousins.
I enjoyed this. I will say though that YuYu Hakusho is not an Isekai. He wasn't reborn into another world, he was just given Spirit Detective powers in his own world because he wasn't supposed to die. All the realms he goes to are in his own world as evidenced by the fact that Kuwabara (who didn't die) as well as his girlfriend and Kuwabara's sister all were able to go to these places as well. He never technically left his world, he still was in school and living at home. Not an Isekai.
There is some argument to be made that the spirit realm is another world. Until Yusuke dies he is completely unaware of the existence of the spirit realm. And regular people are largely unaware of the existence of this spirit realm as well. Kuwabara and his sister were special cases. It is definitely not a traditional isekai. They don't leave the regular world. But one could argue that they unlocked a hidden side of the world. I suppose some could see it as a proto isekai.

It’s not isekai it’s just the place one goes after death in that universe. Much like all the times Goku died and went to spirit world but we don’t calm DBZ an isekai
If the Spirit Realm being another dimension (I remember it even has a barrier so demons won't cross over that one time) counts as "Another World" or not, is debatable. But truly, that car who killed Yusuke inspired the ever famous "Truck-kun" and no one will convince me otherwise. Car-Senpai walked so Truck-kun could run (over people)...
This story really shows us why togashi now is one of the few manga artists of all time who could go on hiatus for YEARS, draw a chapter and get it released in the next magazine, since they basically ruined his life/health to the extent that he will probably die way before his time (as most manga-ka) and being under mostly constant pain for the majority of his life. I mean can you imagine a company ruining you to that extent? no wonder he got special benefits. they owe him big time
Reason #2 is why the Three Kings arc is my favorite. The ability to not only question something you have engaged with so fully... with "Why am I doing this?" but find an answer... ... CHAD. You can tell he was putting his heart and soul into his work. Togashi like Yusuke was doing some soul searching.
love the way you explained this and brought YYH to light it was one of three anime to get me into anime the other two being cowboy bebop and Ninja Scroll.
Yuyu Hakusho is definitely not an isekai since yuyu stay in the same universe after his death and after is resurrection, otherwise Dragon Ball would be an isekai owning to Goku's death and adventure in the afterlife. An better exemple of isekai predating the modern trend would be Vision of Escaflown.
I love Yu Yu Hakusho. I wrote some fanficion and then later, I wrote 5 stories based on that Manga. I think Kubo took a lot from YuYuHakuso and put it in Bleach..
It's funny that his true dream was to become a teacher, I'm the complete opposite and became a teacher so I could work on my writing during the breaks lol he just wanted simple life.
Togashi deserves his rest. The dude has worked so hard the last thing we as fans want is for him to be burnt out. That beautiful mind of his is not done with HXH's world and I cannot wait to read more. Also, props to you my guy. This video was superbly done!
When HunterXhunter first hiatus occured, i imagined, that he was finaly taking the time to enjoy his personnal life. You've done a great work. But I'll go on daydreaming about Togashi living his best life, because the truth is way to sad. i'm choosing denial, but you work here really is top notch. Thank you.
The name Hunter x Hunter actually came to him as he was watching a comedy show that had the habit of repeating words, it gave him the idea to have a series that would have a repeated word for its title 😊
zero exaggeration, HxH is the single greatest thing i have ever experienced in my entire life. I would not even know how to handle experiencing anything greater. I learn new things about HxH all the time. I can not even comprehend the level of Genius Togashi is. I'm not educated enough to notice and understand all the things he has inserted into the story, and greatly appreciate how often i get my mind blown even more. MadHouse gets credit for it as well. Not sure if by his direction or they added it. for example we NEVER hear Killua's foot steps in the entire anime, UNTIL he goes to push Gon out of the way from Pitou.
It's a cartoon, a great anime, but lord, to call it the "single greatest thing you have EVER experienced in your life", that's really sad. Go get in a fight, get a drink, and most of all, get some pussy bro...no but seriously get some good pussy, even if you have got to pay for it🍑👈
It's a great show but damn.. you are way too into it. There are many just as great or better shows and mangas out there.. not to mention the.. you know.. real life things. Make some friends

Really good video , Yu Yu Hakusho was one of the first Anime that i watched and for like 13 years was my favorite Anime , i think i've watched it about 10 times or more
I understand Togashi-sensei a lot. One of the manga he made but sadly barely remembered was Flame of Recca. It was a really good story. But what I understand about him is that drawing and storytelling were more than just passion, it is euphoric to share the stories and ideas and characters running around in his head that it felt like he didn't have enough hands or time or even heads to put it all on papers. It was heaven to him...until the stress from the workload, the burning out of ideas, the wheel slowing down from the high of storytelling, the fear of being unable to meet the expectation from the grand opening, and finally his body breaking down because he physically could not keep up with his brain...I just get it. In the end, what failed him was his body. But I am still thankful that I get to read Yu Yu Hakusho and Flame of Recca.
I loved Yuyu hakusho so much when it used to air on toonami. It was an incredible manga/anime. I had such a huge crush on Kurama-specifically his fox form. That character started a path for me that led me to creating my own Kitsune character and just find an obsessive love with foxes
Yoshihiro Togashi ' s Hunter x Hunter and Frank Herbert's Dune saga is quite similar. They are both detailed and according to me best written stories ever...
YuYu Hakusho is not really an isekai but it is my all time favourite shounen series, I mean a lot of isekais did took ideas of what YuYu Hakusho portrayed in the beginning of the series. How togashi made the manga for both series is incredible despite his health issues he had. I’m currently reading the YuYu Hakusho manga and I’m loving it a lot I’m probably gonna Read and Check out Hunter X Hunter some point after reading YuYu Hakusho.
I don't like Hunter Hunter for its story really. I think the characters have a nice playground to play in and seeing how the characters interact and develop is more of the draw. I like Yu Yu Hakusho a lot more in the story aspect. The talent Togashi has is undeniable though. I just wish he could have been more consistent. (It's not his fault mostly).
To me it is a weird mix i like some stuff and i hate other. Gon is hollow and he is basicaly there to show the world while some characters are interesting like Kilua the way arcs end seem underwhelming it is written in an enjoyable way but underwhelming and somewhat sudden all the same. I do not think many if any at all can pull it off but the author does regardless.
@@Raximus3000 I like the construction style to HxH but it's a perfect representation of Togashi as an overall writer. Directionless but brilliant. So you can get random side plots, arcs ending abruptyly, main characters forgotten / ignored, villains taking the main character role, etc. So currently the last time Gon and Killua were in the manga was in 2014 I believe. It's an interesting style of writing, but more on the creative side. It only works because Togashi is talented enough to put straw together to make a house. But it's barebones, beyond a couple things here and there. Short arcs are fantastic format for his style. The Chimera Ant arc is a miracle with this in mind. Though, to be fair, he did separate that storyline into nice segments.
@@DarkflameEmperor Very true he can do amazing work in "short arcs" in that way he is a lot like Hirohiko Araki except one of them is not really a fan of world building. Maybe if he did YYH in the same format as JOJO it might have had a better effect for his health i think HxH has reached the legendary status because of all the hiatuses. Fans tend to keep things alive especialy when waiting and the quality was there.
1999 HxH will always be my favorite. It gave more darkness for each character. Yuyu hakushu will always be in my heart..the story, character were just amazing,,
now that goat yusuke transformation vs sensui makes sense as at this time togashi already wanted to quit drawing manga entirely lol now the rage transformation makes it more awesome yet sad and it even transfered to gon lmao

Same! Now to watch more
To think that he wanted to be a teacher, and Yu Yu Hakusho centered around the overall growth of a teenage delinquent! In the manga, we even see Yusuke make a living for himself by setting up a ramen stand. It certainly sounds like he had the right attitude to be a teacher.
It reminded me of the early recurring character school principal Takenaka ,who always believed that Yusuke is a good person.
@@evillain19xxProps to Takanaka. Such a good character. We need principals like that in schools. The scene of him at Yusuke’s funeral in the first episode broke me. I was bawling.

Bruh Yusuke could be a teacher in Beelzabub series lol.
Every single chapter he makes is so precious

It’s freaking depressing, but that’s why so many Japanese works focus on the high school period in protagonist’s lives.
Thats most of their readers lol
My theory is because the author never went to University and so that’s the only thing they know.
@@Babylon_Dreamsno, because most manga readers are younger/stuck remembering their highschool days
Nen power system is the proginator of most power system in today's manga.💪💪
I think Nen sucks
Tao in hells paradise somewhat looks like nen concept

ISEKAI means "parallel/another world".
Geez.

It's a very interesting detail that Togashi liked the art of H.R. Giger (Alien). You can see the inspiration and influence looking back at the Chimera Ant hill and character design of Meruem.
where you can see it most clearly is in Silva Zaoldyeck's room in the Zaoldyeck mansion

If he takes too long, it will become another Berserk situation.
I really hope he will do what one is doing, as in outsourcing the detailed drawing to someone else and only doing the storyboard
Hunterxhunter is a greatly written story. I was captivated while watching the anime and hope to see it one day completed, and togashi's back health improved.
YuYu Hakusho will always remain one of my favorites of all time.
Love it.
I love Yu Yu Honkusho.

Dang, this makes Naruto sound so unoriginal if it is all real.
I thought Sasuke design is inspired by the character "Heie" from YuYu Hakusho made by Togashi as well?
@@sigurdtheblue It's not hard to come up with a new and original story, the hard part is to create a world that is interesting and able to sell well. The last part is especially hard, because you need to tell a story that hooks both your future readers AND the publisher you intent to contract with.
Mangaka are bit like cooks. Some are decent others are fantastic, but all have to put in lots of work for not all that much money. #YoshihiroTogashi JUSTICE!!! 🎖️🎇🎖️
All I can think along side watching your video was Yazawa Ai. I hope she's well. Thanks for the awesome VOD!
I hope Yu Yu Hakusho would get the Rurouni Kenshin remake treatment
Anime usually get rebooted if the anime was incomplete for example Hunter x Hunter, Shaman King, Full Metal Alchemist, etc. The chances of Yu Yu Hakusho having a reboot is varying from zero to extremely unlikely. Rurouni Kenshin once again had a bunch of filler episodes and the conclusion wasn’t like the one in the manga. Just in case you didn’t know
Unless we could have all the English VAs back I'd rather just keep it as it is. As cool as it would be to see it look like HxH 2011 did though.
@@JesusChrist2000BC who would we be missing?
@@BRBingeDrinker I mean all of them are thankfully still alive. Whether or not they all want to come back and re do it again is the only question. But it's only way to hear the show in my opinion. Any other voices will not cut it. They may want to make some easy money though so maybe they would.
I just hope that he’s able to live his life during the breaks he gets. I don’t want him to be just recovering for his breaks.
Can you elaborate on what specifically is controversial? I've always believed Yu Yu Hakusho was his best work but I tend to see HxH get all the recognition. Rarely have I ever heard people say anything negative about it outside of being forced to wait.
@@tehemail.7062
Yes.
@@tehemail.7062
So you think he put less effort into HxH, and it ended up accidentally being something that other people thought was brilliant? I admit, I didn't see it that way.
I do certainly consider Yu Yu Hakusho his best work myself, though.
There are no less the 5 other full ass anime that are inside of the HXH world. Phantom Troupe could be its own show, The Zoldyks, Neteru, Ging Freecs, and the Flavor Hunters. Not to mention Game Island
Being a Hunter x Hunter fan, I must say, cool retrospect on the life of Togashi!
It'd be cool if he revisited YuYu to rework what he felt could've been better or add more story. The one thing I liked about the ending is that it showed how the strongest characters were still just small fish in a much bigger sea.
Hey a fellow southerner! I just had this pop up in my feed and I like anime/manga and hunterxhunter so I stayed. Yu yu hakusho was my favorite though, I first saw it on adult swim in high school and that tournament arc was lit!!!! He is also married to the creator of sailor moon so I always like to learn more about him.

Great video. Don't stop.
Your channel's just going to keep on growing.
@@muzlee7479 You missed my point entirely...
It doesn’t really matter if something is more mature, what matters is what group of people would be interested in the manga, which is why Chainsaw Man and Attack on Titan are Shonen.
dude youre so great at these! you should do more ill always be around to watch them promise!
Thanks for doing an awesome job on this video! It's crazy to me how Japan can crazy oppresive work cultures and then wonder why more chilidren aren't being born in their country.
That’s the ending of the first Hunter x Hunter story and the Dark Continent is the sequel
@@thomasffrench3639 first story? that'd prolly be better described as following Gon to get his license.... cause there's that arc... then the heaven's tournament bit, York New, Greed Island, AND THEN chimaera ant.
@@bartofii As in it's the story of gon. He's mostly out of the picture for the rest.
@muzlee7479 considering how hiatus x hiatus runs its a bit premature to call it now. Some of us have been in on this since the 90's
Except it isn’t? The succession arc is an incredible arc, unbelievable depth and has so much to build on.
Yu Yu Hakusho is in my opinion, the best anime ever. Yoshihiro Togashi was the one who inspired me to start drawing.
Great Video. You did some extensive research and I learned a lot. The only thing that bothered me was how you kept reusing the same old videos of Togashi. I know, manga authors keep themselves private so you don't have a large pool of scenes to draw from but maybe you can think of something else to entertain the eyes.
You earned yourself another subscriber
Man, that section of the video around 18min was intense and earned my respect with its presentation. Easy like & sub right there
I can confirm Level E is an amazing show. I thought more people knew about it.
@@koloth5139bro just cause you learn something new about the world doesn’t mean you got transferred into a new world
What are the people living deep in the Amazon in another world?
@@__-nd5qi they did say its not a traditional isekai, I would even go and assume that this is probably one of the earliest thoughts of such a genre. I think they were just hinting at this is sort of like an early take on such a genre.
@@Soress9issekai has been around a lot longer than yyh and it’s definitely not apart of the genre. The spirit world is a step before heaven or hell that’s all.
I mean can you imagine a company ruining you to that extent? no wonder he got special benefits. they owe him big time
Togashi is my inspiration for drawing manga. I allways felt that if Toriyama influenced Anime, Togashi influenced Manga
Reason #2 is why the Three Kings arc is my favorite. The ability to not only question something you have engaged with so fully... with "Why am I doing this?" but find an answer...
... CHAD.
You can tell he was putting his heart and soul into his work. Togashi like Yusuke was doing some soul searching.
can you do a video about hirohiko araki?
love the way you explained this and brought YYH to light it was one of three anime to get me into anime the other two being cowboy bebop and Ninja Scroll.
But isekai just meant "other world".what is this bullshit ur trying to spread?

It's funny that his true dream was to become a teacher, I'm the complete opposite and became a teacher so I could work on my writing during the breaks lol he just wanted simple life.
Togashi deserves his rest. The dude has worked so hard the last thing we as fans want is for him to be burnt out. That beautiful mind of his is not done with HXH's world and I cannot wait to read more.
Also, props to you my guy. This video was superbly done!

Yusuke urameshi is Togashis greatest character you can see Yusuke in his early character designs n ideas
Level E is Great, man.
It will make you think deeply of current issues.
One of my top 5 favorite Anime.
zero exaggeration, HxH is the single greatest thing i have ever experienced in my entire life.

This is really cool thanks for sharing. I have learnt a lot more about him.

Came across of this in my recommendations. Good documentary my dude!
@@DarkflameEmperor
Very true he can do amazing work in "short arcs" in that way he is a lot like Hirohiko Araki except one of them is not really a fan of world building.
Maybe if he did YYH in the same format as JOJO it might have had a better effect for his health i think HxH has reached the legendary status because of all the hiatuses. Fans tend to keep things alive especialy when waiting and the quality was there.
