Exploring the New Mercedes-AMG SLC 43

- The SLC 43 from Mercedes-AMG introduces a new tier in the model line with character and touches from AMG. Under the previous naming structure, the 3-litre V6 was found in the Mercedes-Benz SLK 350, the model itself has been streamlined within the full naming structure to be called the SLC but now the 43 series engines sit beneath the top AMG 63 engines but offer more of a sporty feel than the comfort models. Complicated? Yes, sorry.
The car itself falls into a declining segment, the two-seater convertible, but what's it all about? Let's take a look around, gauge what the car is like and then go for a test drive on a particularly nice road.

I ve got a 2015 350 SLK 3.5 V6 . This newer SLC43 totally outperforms my older 350 but the interior is practically the same except the gear shift is new. The newer modern slightly smaller capacity 3.0 V6 engine with its biturbo and new 9 speed gearbox makes this a really fast fun quality convertible. I would swap mine for it all day
basically Merc AMG 43's = Audi S and Merc AMG 63-65 = Audi RS. Am I correct?

I liked the last one, the SLK. It could be had with 5.5l N/A V8. In a car this small size, thats awesome!
I have this car and I totally love it... I was debating to get between this one and a cayman but honestly I prefer this 3.0 twin turbo v6 than new cayman which is a 2.5 4 cylinder

It's an easy one to overlook, and it has been fairly generalised, but out driving there's actually quite a lot to it.
i think as soon as you overcome the "womens car" prejudice you realize the slc is quite a decent car

Test drove the final edition one last week. That exhaust sounds amazing in sport+
Love the small roadster design! Being a 3.0 V6 Bi-turbo, with just a remap it would get a serious bump in power that the old (and lovely) 5.5 V8 would take lots of upgrades to keep up.
I think the slightly older 2015 5.5 V8 would keep up with a new SLC43 it’s 367BHP but after a remap if you got to 400-410 BPH it s gonna be a close race the mighty 5.5 V8 with its 421 BHP is only 0.1 of a second faster 0-60 so not much in it. Except the sound of the V8 burbling away 😊worth the extra money just for that sound
@@DJAkayManchester Oh! The V8 sound is something else! About the performance there’s a big upgrade with the modern 9 GTronic transmission vs the old and much slower 7 GTronic. I read something about the better weight distribution with the new and lighter engine, but I’m not sure about that.

I thought I saw Pennsylvania plates on that vehicle(can't remember what it was right now) but might have also been Michigan. Anyway, cool footage! Rock On!

I'm iffy about them using the AMG brand on these cars. but i stronly agree with merc launching these cars. A more sporty profile can only benefit MB, and i bet that these cars are FAR more suitable for real humans in the real world.

Unfortunately not, that was a really professional camera mounted on the shoulder of the camera man and connected to a rig.
A proper BRABUS chip will do the power trick.
Basically the exact same interior as the SL range (that model is due an update soon I hope)

The reason you keep bouncing off the limiter is because the dial is not representative of where the limiter actually is on these 43 cars. Something along the lines of the dial says its at 6500 but it's actually 6250.
@ 3:15 that temperature gauge was looking a tad too high lol
Theres the 45s aswell e.g. A45 amg, Cla 45 and Gla 45.
I'm a bit disappointed in the performance of this car. The 2002 SLK32 AMG had a supercharged V-6 instead of the twin turbocharged V-6 with only 10hp less. The performance figures are almost identical with 0-60 about 4.5 seconds and 1/4 mile of about 13.0 seconds at 110mph. One would think that after 15 years they would have upped performance significantly yet this has remained static. So, for $65,000 I can have a new SLC43 AMG or for about $13,000 I could buy a used 2002 SLK32 AMG and get the same performance. M-B should do better. I've owned several SLKs and Chrysler Crossfires and the SLK32 is a screamer. I only wish any of them had three pedals.
Of course being an early 2000's Mercedes, the 2002 SLK32 AMG will break down every other week and cost thousands to repair each time. On the plus side, it'll be much nicer to look at than this ugly turd.

I don't get where you're coming from. It's a car that fulfills the expectations of it's class. If you say horsepower should be improved the longer a model is around, we would all have a 1000 hp cars by now

Neil Baldacchino The SLC has come out in replacement of the SLK. It was called the SLC in another country years before (I forgot what country it was) 😂.
Havn't Mercedes just announced they are discontinuing the SLC at the end of the year????

I really don't understand why Mercedes didn't fit the 4,0 V8 in this one. The R171 had the 5,4 V8 and the prefacelift R172 had the 5,5 V8 with over 400 HP.

If you think this is quite nice, take a drive in an SL400 and you'll start to wonder why you spent three times as much on an Aston Martin. They're awesome and genuinely usable everyday.

The heart of AMG is a V8. These lesser AMGs, S-line, M-Sport, R-lines are just diluting and screwing the performance brands.

Annnnd the tune alone from eurocharged uts it at 460HP and 528LB-FT of torque........holy fuckin shit.....
How incredibly sad that the AMG 43 engines are TWIN TURBO V6s that make a lousy 362hp while their 45 engines are a SINGLE TURBO 4 CYL that make 375hp.
How these engines don't make 400+ hp to compete with the likes of the M3 and M4 is beyond me.
rha600 they can, but it's a de-tuned version to appeal to people who want power but not as much and can still get accepatble fuel economy and reliability out of them
Sorry but that's a ridiculous argument. No one is buying an AMG and wanting less power. If they want something detuned for economy (reliability is not a problem) then they could buy the regular V6 that still makes 326hp (see the E400). MB screwed the deal with their entire line. The 300 series cars are not 241hp I4s, no V6 option except the 43 which as I said, even when compared to it's competition should have in the 400hp range. When you have a twin turbo V6 that doesn't even make as much as your turbo I4 you should know you screwed up.
rha600 the 43 models compete with the Audi S and BMW Mxxx/x35/x40 models and in that segment they are the most powerful and aggressive
Please show me where MB says it competes with those? It does not. And even If that were the case, that means the C63 for example competes with the M3/M4 and has FAR more HP (over 500 compared to 425) yet they didn't do the same thing with the C43? You're claiming the C43 series competes with a series in BMW's lineup while making barely 20hp more?
And you're still forgetting one key point to my statement.
rha600 They say it by price point and performance. C63 is an M3/4, RS4/5 and Alfa Giulia QF rival by the same measure. The E43 is outgunned by the new M550i though.
SLC 43 is an upgrade from an SLK 350. SLK 55 successor doesint exist. Merc will come up with a '55' with more power for the slc.

Obviously they don't want you telling us. The car has Michigan plates but background looked more like California. What state plates were on the majority of the other cars? That would be the obvious answer.Who travels to another country and doesn't know where the plane ticket was going to? I smell a cover up.

I prefer the Audi TT! Especially the TTRS! That's because I'm not the biggest fan of the SLC and Z4

It's a refreshed verion of the SLK introduced in 2011. Quite an old platform. I think I'd go with basic boxster instead of this women's car.

Wow, the R172 SLK was so much better looking, that front end with the tacky ass diamante things on the grill and deformed headlights is repulsive. The interior is very nice though.
