Bezel might be sapphire. My AD showed me a GS a customer had recently ordered from his catalog. It was a GMT. The white one I believe. He pointed to my MM300 I was wearing, "That bezel is creamic, this one is sapphire."
I own an MM200 Josh and would agree. I picked one up for £900 and think it a very good piece at that price. It's pretty top heavy mind though I certainly wouldn't put anyone off one. I looked at the MM300 but thought it just too big alround but for a 7" plus wrist and at 3k, I thought it was terrific...
I like so much about the current lineup of GS divers, especially the titanium spring drive version. With that being said they're about 90% of what I expect for the price. The clasp ends up being a deal breaker for me. It seems more suitable for a $3k Marine Master than a more expensive GS model. The dials & case work are impeccable though.
Agreed, I think they've been focused on the dress range and this just feels a bit behind, in comparison. Hopefully their divers can catch up in the coming years, because I just don't lust for this.
This is one of the few watches I've held & said, yes, I could see myself spending the cash for this. It's magnificent. The others: Cartier Santos & IWC blue Mark VXIII
Agreed. I swapped out my bracelet for an Artem sailcloth strap. I experienced the same issues with the clasp. If it had a Pelagos-like adjustable strap that would be a significant improvement.
$7,300. And...the bezel is misaligned. Holeeeee mackerel. If you want to compete with Rolex, Omega, AP and the like, you simply cannot cut corners. You can't. Because they certainly don't. GS are doing some great things and making some great watches. But someone needs to tell them that small leaks can sink a battleship. Details dear fellows. Details...
There's side to side play in the bezel it looks perfectly aligned at the end of the video after he adjusts it. The Submariner has the same kind of slight side to side movement.
@@thexetmes I take on board the first part of your message Mark but I'm wearing a Submariner (16610) as I type this message and it most certainly does not!
@@denis888red The 5 digit and 6 digit Submariner models have different bezel mechanisms. I was referencing the most recent iterations (i.e 126610). I do agree the 16610 bezel has no play from what I've felt.
Nice review Rob! Other than the misaligned bezel, I love that one. I think I would enjoy that clasp, especially if I went back to diving again. Other than the bezel, Imwould probably take the GS over a Swiss diver.
I have no interest in a 40-41mm diver, but it still blows my mind that GS hasn't released one yet considering the sales potential. It would explode (throw on a more refined clasp and you'd never hear the end of it on WUS).
I wonder how many japanese people buy these massive watches. Also, I don't understand why they don't release a modern 40mm diver. Even regular seiko is doing better with the new SPB333.
Nice. I've never added a GS diver to a big diver collection, mainly because they strike me as a bit big for a 'nice' daily diver. Can't fault the quality though - it's a great movement and the construction is first class. As for bezels, well I've got three Rolex that are off, while my Seikos (8!) are all spot on. No sleepless nights either way. Omega are the most reliabley accurate if it bugs you. As for the Marinemaster clasp, it's not the prettiest, but it works to adjust the bracelet over a wetsuit without removing the watch - the point. Try that with Glidelock. But I agree, it could be tarted up a bit.
I would love a Grand Seiko diver but at that price point there is no room for error. Spongy bezel, (which is misaligned!!!!), and a clasp that they designed many years ago, at which point they thought "that'll do", and they haven't thought about it since.
I just don't see GS having a leg up in this genre of watch aka dive watch space. Love GS but don't feel its their strongest model range relative to the competition. Believe it looks nice on your wrist Rob...you can pull it off. Lesser sized wrists, not so much. Personally, I would rather have a MM300 for half the price in the chunky watch category.
😟 that GS can't do a proper bezel alignment 🤔. In theory, I like the design of that "adjust on the fly" clasp. A couple years ago I bought a few to replace the potato chip clasps on some of my Prospex divers. What disappointed me is how overly thick the clasp is compared to the other dimensions. I do like it when lifting the fold over safety the "on the fly" feature loosens the bracelet making it easier to take off my wrist - Anyway, that's how I use it most of the time.😉
$7300 for a 200m water resistant Grand Seiko SBGH289 diver's watch. For 7300 or less, just get a Breitling automatic Superocean chronograph, what are you doing?
$7300 for a 200m water resistant Grand Seiko SBGH289 diver's watch. For 7300 or less, just get a Breitling quartz Superocean chronograph, what are you doing?
Love GS but their brackets and clasps are just “eh” for the price. Tudor and Rolex are so much better vs what they make and for $7,300 they need to be better.
Hibeat tend to have short power reserves. I hate divers. Even GS. I bought the Snowflake years ago and got a huge discount. If GS doesn’t discount, I am not buying.

I used to own several GS divers. I used to love them but no more. They are not worth the money. Case too thick. Not so good bezel. The clasp is mediocre. I rather go for Citizen.
Hahahaaa HOW FUNNY: a too chubby and too fat Rolex Submariner's jap hommage for 7.300 USD????????? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🍷🍷🍷 We do say in italian: HOLD BACK THE WINE!!! 🤣

That shade of deep blue is mystical!
Very nice 👌
I actually like the clasp. I love the way I can adjust it to fit my wrist perfectly after putting on the watch.
I own this watch.. Bought it coz of the blue dial and high beat movement. This is my favourite diver so far
Are you still happy with the watch?
Gorgeous watch. Stunning dial. Looks amazing without the Power reserve.
Meh the date window still makes it non symmetrical, also 7300 bucks for a boring standard 'dive' watch design, no thanks.
I love this watch. Tried it on at the AD. It’s kinda big but wore great on my wrist.
Bezel might be sapphire.

Sieko watches are amazing
I've been wanting a GS diver for a while, but I haven't pulled the trigger.
For a Seiko diver, mm200 feels like the upper end sweet spot price and size wise

Give me a GS high beat over a Spring Drive any day

Funny how opinions differ, in my opinion clasp is best, better than on any other watch. Heavy, durable, on the fly adjustment etc.

Fantastic piece 💪
This is a really cool looking watch. Reminds me of the MM300 a bit in terms of the overall appearance, but more refined.
Great review.
I'm sure the movement and finishing is world class... But for that price, it needs a better clasp and bezel action.

Well said. I'd rather buy 2 or 3 Sinn watches for the cost of a GS.

Beautiful watch
Seiko has also informed LX series Seiko ADs to not do discounts. Found that out yesterday while trying to buy one.
I really like that watch!

They have great watches at great prices !

Who boy! That clasp is thick! You'd think they would have used a ball bearing or something equivalent to improve the bezel action.
Thanks Rob, half a click off, just like Seiko :) too funny 😂 great vid as always!
Beautiful watch. I'll take it in quartz, titanium with a band.
If these were a little smaller I'd be sold.
The day GS makes a 40-42mm diver it will sell like hotcakes. One day they will learn
I would love a Grand Seiko diver but at that price point there is no room for error. Spongy bezel, (which is misaligned!!!!), and a clasp that they designed many years ago, at which point they thought "that'll do", and they haven't thought about it since.
Is that bezel misaligned..??
there is so much back play
$7K for only 200m with that case thickness ? Plus an unrefined clasp and a loose/misaligned bezel? Naaaaah.
Nice watch and a down to earth presentation, but I wouldn't pay that kind of money for it. Maybe 3500USD?
This is a good buy
wow.. striking, just expensive...
If another maker made their bezels a half click off, Seiko could sue for trademark infringement.
Haha. They have the trademark on half click off.
anyone choosing this over deep sea Rolex ?
Has been my grail for years, but never bought it
Make it 40 mm please Grand Seiko
I was interested until I heard a $7,300 watch is still 1/2 a click off.
Always liked the look of this watch. San Martin make a great clone.
Does it take lots of self control to not pull the plastic off brand new watches? 😆
Lot of other beautiful watches out there for a fraction of the cost...
Beautiful, yet predictably oversized in every way.

Who is even buying these? I couldn’t imagine them selling even 1 unit.
move the mic away from the watches
Just wondering why Seiko and Grand Seiko never put importance on the bracelets of their watches. They never listened to the complaints.
Spongy bezel is a joke at this price, clasp is meh for an expensive watch, a bit big and thick for most. The dial colour is beautiful.
