    In the past expensive watches almost always shows real taste and class in timeless designs which would reflect well on wearer. These days with the rapidly growing class of the very wealthy with more cash than they know what to do with, companies like Richard Mille have come along to help relieve them of that problem with their main source of fame being that they are really really expensive. To these rich folks buying a Richard Mille is equivalent to a normal person buying a cheap Casio or Swatch pop watch (actually both look surprisingly similar), and the fact that these watches are silly or absurd or tacky just shows how the (new) rich have so much money to burn that they can afford to throw their abundant money away on here-today-gone-tomorrow incredibly overpriced fashion watches. In sum, the message is "Look at me! I'm so rich that I can afford to join the more money than brains club, and still have plenty of cash to throw around".

    I can understand that at first RM seems very off-putting. But please, before you trash RM, take the time to research what goes into making these watches. I recommend a video that watchfinder made about why RM costs 100k or what not. The design is obviously controversial, but that’s part of the lure of RM. I could never afford one, neither would I buy one if I could, but I have infinite respect for the engineering behind RM. Comparing the manufacturing to Hublot could not be more off. The thing I hate most about the brand (other than the designs which would make me want to douse my arm in gasoline and set it aflame if I somehow git one of these on my wrist) is the exclusivity mentality.
    Prices are significantly inflated to deter the plebs and riff-raff and even if you can afford one, many of their shops are even more selective with their clientele than Rolex dealers. Yes, many luxury brands do this, but RM doesn’t just dial it up to 11, it goes to 12!

  • @misteratoz
    @misteratoz 3 года назад +5

    What irritates me about RM is their justification for their obscene prices. They claim that they push horology to the extremes ...except that they don't. Everything you can get in an RM you can get from a 100 other brands complication wise and for much less, including anti-shock/anti-magnetic properties or whatever garbage they claim. But...the materials! Grand Seiko does titanium. Panerai and Omega do crazy ceramics. So? But one might say, their screws are one of a kind but again....why? Do their custom screws make their watches bettter? No.... But they do make manufacturing exponentially more expensive. What a joke.
    Richard Mille is doing what AP did a decades ago. When they can't sell quality, they decided it's smarter jack up the prices and tell people that this is what luxury and high-quality is by making their own lives more difficult and making us pay for it. It's just dumb and makes the watch geek in me sad.

      The complication of an RM is at best AT BEST average compare to other luxury watches and I’m being nice fit trying 3 of them for a week each. I have never seen such an ugly unpractical watch. If you can’t wear a 100k+ watch with a suit and it blends in organically with your looks then don’t buy that watch. however you dress with a RM it doesn’t stand out it’s like a tumour it looks awkward. It’s not a aviation watch let’s say like breitling it a sea watch or a race watch or a time/sky watch or diving watch or a soirée watch it’s a literally toy you give to a kid. the prices will drop like crazy in 1-2 years since this watch is not more then 30-50k at best and I’m being generous here extremely. RM is a disrespect to watchmakers that makes watches you can actually wear if you a lady or man. even a seiko is and looks cleaner then this that’s crazy. ( not disrespecting seiko ) . RM is the new Frank muller ( and he was a good watchmaker but overpriced) or the new Jacob rainbow crap the only difference is social media. If Jacob had social media back then his watch would be 400k also like RM. it’s a popularity contest not a actual watch contest. nobody and I mean NOBODY will pass this piece is shit down generation to generation 🤣🤣😂🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ cmon now they are not doing anything that hasn’t been done the only thing they got is the watch is extremely light that’s it nothing more nothing less. Everything else you can find better in almost all other real luxury watch . The worst is that RM worked at audemars if not mistaken 1 would think he would know a thing or 2 about ugly watches 🤦‍♂️

      FM watches are mostly made of precious metals with diamonds, even with generic movement you're getting a custom finishing and a platinum rotor, plus possibly some wicked complications like Crazy Hours, Remember, Vegas or Secret Hours. The more complex watches were completely in-house and wonders of engineering.
      The former designer from FM works for RM, therefore design is kinda similar.
      RM prices are also actually fairly justified, even tho no one cares to do some research and find out why exactly RM is so expensive. Everyone naively thinks RM gets prices from the top of their heads.

    [This is long Btw]
    Everyone I know that is "into" watches are constantly bashing companies like Jacob and co, Hublot and Richard Mille for not having heritage, but that is how every watch maker started. Bold designs that were different, think Royal Oaks turning steel into a luxury metal watch, and improving the watch industry by doing it. People may look at the likes of the Astronomia, Big Bang Sang Bleu II and RM053 as gaudy but they watches that are meant for different collectors collections. In this video you were aiming at RM, granted they aren't for everyone, a lot are designed for sports so they have to be light (hence the use of elastic straps on the RM67-01), Extremely shockproof (hence the wire suspension used in the RM53-01) but they are also even make designs for considerate people that still want an alarm (think the RM62-01, with its vibrating alarm). This is not a "shot" at anyone is just me saying tastes and requirements are different, for instance I don't particularly like trench/field watches, and I definitely don't need a watch that can go down to 3000m below sea level (as I am sure most people don't), but these things shouldn't stop other people from being put off a brand they like RM.

    I feel you’ve mad an extreme misconception of Richard Mille. Richard Mille as a designer builds watches with an extreme level of engineering. However you feel about the looks of the watches it’s impossible to discredit the attention to detail technological status of a Richard Mille. Every part of a single Richard Mille is made specifically for itself to the highest standards. The owners of Richard Mille are the same owners of AP, Patek, and Vacheron Constantin, all brands you admire. The movements of RM are actually designed by the Renaud et Papi supplier. R&P was founded by two award winning employees of AP. Richard Mille is not a gaudy “toy” but rather the opposite. An RM is the new high of watchmaking technology, a machine designed with excellence the same as the F1 cars they draw inspiration from. You’ve made the ignorant mistake based purely on the looks of a time piece through a screen. Extremely irresponsible to post such an accusatory video without fully understanding the deep, and rather profound, history behind the Richard Mille pieces you claim to despise.
