It's relieving to know that a lot of those torture devices and methods were uncommon or completely unattested until the early modern era ~1600's-1900's. Many of them were first "invented" as displays for the circus, such as the Iron Maiden. The Chastity Belt wasn't even invented until the ~1600's, and even then they were rare, most references to them from the time were in a joking manner. The most common executions were simply hanging and beheading, torture was usually reserved for interrogation & high treason. Sorry for being a NERD.
