Stop being offended so easily people. I'm Asian American and if I was asked that question I would not be at all offended.
I see nothing racist but professional curiosity: Tom Holland had to change/train/practice his own English accent with the best coach he found to sound as Newyorker/Queens as possible, naturally, after working so hard himself and thinking this guy was native South Korean with a perfect American accent he had to be very very curious as an actor about what kind of training or trick this guy could give him... it was a compliment, really... .
What a pleasing interview to go through. Looks like Eric just met these two right before the interview but they all seemed to talk so comfortably with each other. Not to mention how hilarious some parts of this video was.
So if someone asked Namjoon how he learned English would it be racist? Cause he speaks English pretty well considering he's a foreigner. Eric literally lives in Korea and speaks Korean so him speaking English obviously will grab their intention. Not everyone is bilingual too so you can't just assume they were born speaking two languages.
If you go to a certain country, and you speak to someone there who actually looks like a native, probably you are expecting him/her to speak the official language of that country. How is that racist? it's called common sense :v he's in Korea, he's speaking to a korean, so he thought he was a korean native speaker.
Hei Ze That's because Eric is native english speaker and Tom wouldn't notice that unless he was stupid. Why did he ask that kind of question to native speaker?
There are tons of non-English speakers who actually know the language with such a level of profficiency, and that doesn't make them American, Australian nor British. So, no, being good at English is not a logical hint to know if someone is native or not. Tom isn't a fan like us, so he doesn't know Eric. How would he know then that he's american? by asking, of course.
Yep for example Taecyeon, Rapmon and Jackson are really good at speaking English and don't have Korean accent really, but any of them aren't Korean-Americans (nor British or Australian). So if someone would assume them to be Korean-Americans cause their English skills it would be false as well- though not racist or ignorant.

People need to chill. It was definitely not meant in any offensive way and seriously, why can't he be surprised…? It was an interview in Korea so he didn't have to expect someone to talk without accent. And yes, most foreigners who learn English may speak it fluently but that doesn't mean they speak it without accent. And since they were in Korea he probably didn't expect to be interviewed by an American. Why do y'all get offended so easily?
Most commentators who says Tom is a racist are Korean commentators This is stupid. Infact, He is complimenting for his good English. Nothing wrong with that
I think Tom was more surprised that Eric had an American accent when speaking English, not so much that he spoke English. I'd be surprised too, especially being in a foreign country.
It would be racist if they were doing the interview in America doing the interview but they're in Korea so it's normal to assume that the people interviewing him are native Koreans who are raised there and use Korean as their primary language. People aren't even trying to use common sense anymore and are so ignorant and over pc smh

Ahhh! Just watched it today and was thinking that it would be cute if Tom came to Korea to promote the movie and had an interview with Eric and tada! Eric does a fantastic job as usual and Tom and Jacob kept me smiling 😊
This interview took place in South Korea and Tom doesn't know Eric Nam before. To Tom he is maybe just an interviewer who is bilingual. There is know way any normal person would guess that a man he met in South Korea, Looking Korean and speaking good korean would NOT be of Korean nationality.
Okay but if it was the other way around, would people still get this offended? If Tom could speak Korean fluently without an accent, wouldn't people ask him about it too? Like seriously, he assumed that Eric was a native Korean as the interview was held in Korea, and was just surprised that he spoke english so fluently without an accent.
I didn't know that asking someone how did he learn English was racist ? Wooow these ppl must be very sensitive about tiny things ....on top of that it was obvious if i was in Tom's place I would myself ask Eric cz he kinda looks Korean and fluent in speaking korean ...like damn the way he switches back and forth between korean and English without even slighest discomfort is just very cool and impressive
@@whippedforbangtanftjin5106 i think if it’s in a back handed way it can be offensive but definitely not in this case. if someone saw a korean american person speaking english normally in a predominantly english country like America and told them “wow you’re english is so good.” then t would be offensive since they’re assuming that since you’re of a different ethnicity, you would be bad at english.
Tbh I don't know why people think Tom is racist for what he said. If you're doing an interview on Korea, you assume that the interviewer is Korean as well. It is a small mistake, but it's not racist.
I understand that he could´ve guessed because of his name, but there are actually Koreans who speak English to a very good level to the point that they don´t have an accent, so Tom probably thought that Eric was just really good at English. I just don´t think his mistake is racist.

Tom was staring at Eric with admiration when he ask the now famous question. 💕 Love them both, and of course Jacob too
1. Tom meant nothing except that he didn't know Eric was American -- since he was IN KOREA.
2. Eric wasn't offended, so why the heck are other people offended? He literally said it was fine. Jesus.
Why do y'all get offended so easily?
came for TOM HOLLAND
4:33 pretty much what I've been saying this whole time for these kinds of interviews. Eric is impressive!
Most commentators who says Tom is a racist are Korean commentators This is stupid. Infact, He is complimenting for his good English. Nothing wrong with that
This interview is so much fun! I cant stop laughing Jacob is laughing all the time, his laugh is contagious😂😂 great interview, Eric!
Tom is cute and honest as always. When he made comments on Eric’s English skills, you can see he’s genuinely impressed about it.
*im so happy eric got to interview them and not some awkward american interviewer because they all got along very well since eric has a very fun personality*
Forget the English comment, can we talk about how fun the interview was their chemistry was soooo good and they were so funny
Fun interview!! Tom seemed kinda out of it and not exactly himself? Jacob is a ball of pure joy and sunshine all the time I love him. Also the interviewer is cute af
Abbie glitterz his name is eric name,a multitalentend korean singer.he also has good personality and very nice voice.you should check him out..
Came for Tom Holland(BEST SPIDERMAN)
No one should get offended by Tom asking, but come on it was hilarious. Eric was just like "surprise" 🤣
12:50, how is this offensive at all? It's a Korean interview, of course Tom is gonna assume the guy is Korean born, who wouldn't?
Exactly! It was just an innocent question, like why tf are some ppl getting triggered, lol.
Tu nombre de usuario JAJAJAJAJA
I love how jacob giggles basically non-stop throughout this whole thing 😂
I honestly thought it was hilarious when Tom asked Eric that. I laughed even harder the moment Tom goes, "Ohhhhhhhhhh!" They're so cute.
Eric is so expressive with his whole body when he translates, I love it 🥰
This interview is so good!!!! Eric had really interesting questions and I was excited to hear the answers! A very well done interview!!!
Good job! You're the 200th comment explaining the situation!
@@exlpod Honestly if there are as many correct explanations as there are idiotic rumors, I'll take that as a win
Okay but if it was the other way around, would people still get this offended? If Tom could speak Korean fluently without an accent, wouldn't people ask him about it too? Like seriously, he assumed that Eric was a native Korean as the interview was held in Korea, and was just surprised that he spoke english so fluently without an accent.
my point exactly people make fuss about everything these days
To be honest if the guy lives in Korea now, then everyone, every day of his life will also assume he's Korean. Because why not.
You all must be whites I swear😭😭😭
This is the BEST Spider-man Homecoming interview I’ve ever watch!!
Eric nam is so i love him more and more
Tbh I don't know why people think Tom is racist for what he said. If you're doing an interview on Korea, you assume that the interviewer is Korean as well. It is a small mistake, but it's not racist.
sofia First the interviewer's name is Eric~ its not korean name definitely. second he has no accent when he speaking english
I understand that he could´ve guessed because of his name, but there are actually Koreans who speak English to a very good level to the point that they don´t have an accent, so Tom probably thought that Eric was just really good at English. I just don´t think his mistake is racist.
@@kylieiluv2227 I'm in Malaysia, and literally 60% of ppl in my class has a foreign name such as Hannah, Thomas, Jackson, Michelle, Catherine, Iris ETC. If you've went to Asian countries you'll realise some of us does have names like this.
My favorite people in one video this is great !!! (:
Jeon Emily Jennie 😍
For someone who is fan of spiderman and who grew up watching Toby as spidey i admit its hard for me to accept when they've change the actors but only Tom makes me want to watch it in bigger screen.
I wish sooner I'll be like Eric Nam who can automatically switch his brain from speaking Korean and English immediately. I've been self learning Hanggul for months and I'm quite improving I may say but I'm still in the elementary level. But I still do not have to lose my learning in English (which is my 2nd language). Lately, there are a few times that I forgot how to spell some words in English which I easily spelled before. hahahaha. This is because I'm so immersed in learning the Korean language faster. I think I need to go to a formal school to learn everything.
While everyone is defending tom for a stupid rumor, I'm just enjoying these cuties having fun.
Bianca Farfan haha same!!! I love them so much!!!
I’m Asian-American and trust me, when you see or hear Asian idols speak perfect English, you get curious too. They’re in Korea so it makes sense for Tom to be curious to ask. It’s understandable.
Now this is a nice, relaxed, fun and informative interview! I wish the Infinity War interview at April 12th had had Eric Nam. Would have been much better.
Why it doesn't feel like an interview to me?? 🤣 they're so funny
Forget about the english scene (i came for that) but the man on the left is hilarious af lol i’m having the time of my life rn
Super relaxed interviewer and great interview. Thanks for this:)
HAHA WHY DO I FEEL LIKE THEY’RE SO HARD TO CONTROL but like it’s also so cute how humble they are
I'm so sad. I want to read comments on the actual interview and how enjoyable it was but all I see is comments on whether people think what Tom said was offensive or not.
Such a great interview Jacob had me in tears😂😂
MY THREE FAVORITE PEOPLE IN THE SAME PLACE?? ITS A MIRACLE
This interview was absolutely hilarious I could not stop laughing I think Jacob gave me the giggles lmao
i can’t really explain but this interview gives a high school magazine interview in the best way possible
Not sure if I’m more excited about Eric meeting Tom and Jacob, or Tom and Jacob meeting Eric
yeah no an asian that speaks perfect korean and is living in korea… your first impression would not be “he must be american” lmao
Jacob's laugh makes the interview so funny 😂
Im here because of tiktok! I love you eric nam ❤️
Wow eric was like working a double job here. Transitioning from english to korean to english. I really hope he got paid double haha
Eric effortlessly switching between languages is so attractive.
if anything tom was praising eric about his fluent English idk why there are people hating. When I was just a new fan of Eric several yeard back I also wondered how Eric learned English.
12:57 at that moment. he knew. he beeped up.
I love seeing all three of them in the same video. Eric Nam interviewing them is life.
It’s five years now omg
I'm just watching Toms face while Eric is talking in korean 😂
holland just amazed. that kid just amazed how eric can say a lot english and a lot korean. i mean if there's someone who talk indonesian very fluently and i dont know if they are indonesia or not, i'll ask the same thing like holland did.
My three favorite people in one interview!
Eric Nam, you are a pride of the Korean entertainment industry.
Jacob always gives positive energy to us. I love him 💖
Why is it offensive? It was a very normal conversation n Koreans should be proud that Eric was appreciated for knowing excellent English and Korean
So cute 😘😘😘😍😍😍❤❤❤
so weird to think about Tom filming in my home state, or Eric being from around here. so wild. love them. 💖💗💖💕💖💕💖💗💕💖💕💖💕💖💕💖
