I love hearing reactors getting inspired to be more creative or amped up to learn something after watching Ren. He's an inspiration to so many - work wise, art wise, and just to be a better human in this mad world.

Thanks for another Ren reaction. I enjoy your comments and honesty. He is a huge Sting fan. So I would suggest you watch the “big push”English man in New York” which is a cover of sting is the whole song.

This was filmed in the bar Valentinos in Brighton. Ladies are from Brighton. From concept to filming 10 days.
Ren does all the mixing s orobably adds snap to the claps.

Yes, he was also incorporating the chords from Message in a Bottle into the lyrics from Back on 74. A true mashup!

Yay, you caught the MIAB riff! I'm always sad when a reactor who's excited/interested to hear MIAB misses Ren weaving the riff into 74 (edit - but it's completely understandable when that happens of course!)
I think(?) what he's done is to recognize the 2nds/9ths being used in Jungle's song, and then structure his bass+guitar parts to highlight them (I think by dropping the 3rd out of his arrangement as often as he can) to leave you with that MIAB "feel." It's what makes the bass+guitar feel... "haunting" or "weird" or whatever here, versus when you listen to Jungle's original sure, those unusual-for-pop intervals feel "different" but Jungle's keeping plenty of 3rds in the arrangement and the 2nds/9ths aren't as in-your-face, so the original song has a "happier" feel to it (beyond the faster tempo). He hammers the point home by using the MIAB guitar effect for the whole song.
When he gently twists Jungle's arrangement this way, the MIAB feels entirely at home showing up under the melody in the middle there (and even people who know MIAB is coming often miss it on first listen), and I think it's why the 2 songs work so seamlessly together.
I think there's also something about the rhythm of Back on 74's melody that echoes something in the rhythm of the MIAB riff too, but I haven't tried to tease that apart yet to see if my hunch is right, so maybe I'm off-base on that one.

One thing to really pay attention to with Ren: he is a master at maximizing simplicity! He can be more captivating with a single instrument than some multi-piece bands can be in an entire career. He makes use of EVERYTHING at his disposal: especially, for example a room's acoustics. IMNSHO, he's a musical alchemist!

Back on 74 is from a new artist called jungle! But don’t get it confused with a rave scene called jungle music in the uk , he says massive like jungle, a shout out to the artist, but flip it around and that’s junglist massive ! A term used by mcs at jungle raves ! Hope it made sense coz Americans ain’t gonna get that bar

Hard to compare War Pigs and this as The Big Push had one shot at it in an uncontrolled environment, but this is just a super smooth vibe all around…the backup singers hopefully will make a return in his upcoming releases🔥🔥🔥!

    Hello!
First time listener. Enjoyed your reaction and respect for Ren's talents and meticulous attention to detail.
Linking below the original music video to 'Back on 74' by Jungle. Amazing in its own right. Ren's take is a different vibe but stays true to the feel of the original.
Also, as you like hearing Ren's message, I think you'll appreciate his video on reaching One Million Subscribers. There's not, in my opinion, anyone in the music industry (or anywhere else , actually) who I've witnessed demonstrate such a genuine and deep level of grace, gratitude, emotional intelligence, vulnerability, and humility while also sharing his views on society, the medical industry, and encouraging the betterment of humanity and care for our planet.

Yeah, in the second verse when he lowers his voice, he's playing the message in a bottle riff. Strange that it blends so well, many don't seem to notice. Probably more noticeable if you're a little more familiar with back on 74 I suppose.

Do glad you did this one. I agree, this is much better than War Pigs to me. This is Ren's vision. He uses the Sure SM7B for all his live performances. This is my favorite live performance of his. He threw in everything but the kitchen sink. He plays the Message in Bottle lick in the other song which is what you're hearing.
