The floating islands look great all planted up. I like the ease of planting in them and that they can be anchored. The choice of plants is endless - I’m glad you planted them as I’d still be choosing the plants!
Creeping Jenny is one of my favorite plants. Very versatile. I only have the gold. I would rather have green. You can hardly see the flowers on the gold.
Thanks for sharing this video. I'm across the pond Michigan USA I will order the aquatic baskets from Greg's company next week. I do have an Aquascape ecosystem pond Craig actually did a RUclips video 4 years ago.
Great video Mark, very helpful 👌. I now have both types of creeping jenny at its growing fast 😵, but looking great. Can you use other moos apart from willow moss for waterfalls and how would you place it and with what !!
Yes you can moss up waterfalls with waterfall foam. Stick it on in a splash zone and watch it grow. Give a couple a try and see which like it the best. Even the dead misses that don’t make it will have the other moss start to grow on it.
What are you using as the potting soil for your pond plantsl. I like to mix my own soil for my outdoor flower pots. For those pots I mix equal parts of bagged top soil and composted peat.
Hi Mark. I have watched many of your videos and can't remember which one, but can you recommend plants to plug in between rock around the outside of a pond . Neil UK
hello mark, my nana has a very small preformed pond with little waterfall and a allin one filter in the bottom of the pond she has 4 gildfish but the water is very green what would be the best cheap way to get rid of the green water without a pond vac or a uv steralizer also she has some waterlilys when will te=hey begin to flower no sign yet thank you
Mark, thanks for the very informative video. I am in Melbourne Australia and I built my garden pond (6000 ltrs) some 34 years ago, with rocks. I have a pressurized filter with UV light and another Bog filter. Water crystal clear, never a problem. I have water lily out of pots, on the bottom of the pond, the thing is it never flowers, pond is 4 feet deep, may be that is the problem. What do you suggest?
What is pond compost made of? The thing i don't understand is putting dirt(?)in the pond water. Does the dirt/compost not make the water dirty or discolored?
@@ThePondAdvisor i was thinking of doing one of these in a 55 gallon patio pond in the middle as a floating island and have nothing under for more space.
I think planting things in one row looks a bit artificial, but lots of interesting ideas I will definitely try. Are there any follow-up videos about these baskets? How are they doing?
I live in Australia and for some reason, aquatic compost is very hard to get hold of. However, when I do find it, it is very heavy once it is wet. I have a floating pot but when I use the aquatic compost it is too heavy and the pot sinks instead of floating. How can I adapt my aquatic soil to make it lighter so my floating pot will actually float once planted out?
Depends on the plant, depends on you pond design, depends on the container you are planting. Did you watch the video a couple of weeks ago, potting waterlilies I cove the fertiliser more in that video
@@ThePondAdvisor unfortunately I’m too far away from PC. The first floating basket you made. I would like to replicate but struggling to find the plants
You should have a few places down their. You can order online I am guessing yes you will have to let them grow a little but then next year they will be perfect
Thank you for giving us these wonderful ideas GOD bless you
Thank you for watching
Very good, thank you. Nancy from Texas

Very interesting. I visited a natural pitcher plant bog here in usa Oregon. Those are amazing.thanks for the inspiration
Very cool!

It grows faster and yes the flowers stand out well.

Hi Mark, with winter upon us, could you suggest some plants for a floating planter? Bringing on going interest and colour to keep the blues away.
The Pitcher plants look great at the moment, you can add autumn bedding plants to these floating island. Personal choice

Great question, we use different mixes for different plants.

I have a floating bog that I bought for my pond. I have had it for ~10 years.
Sounds nice 👍🏻

I would say floating plants cause they use a good amount of nutrients and can shade the pond from all the sunlight.
Try growing water cress or the pond plant planters like in this weeks video
Are primulas regular plants or specifically designed to be in water all the time?
Lots of primulas love living by water.

most aquatic soils are sandy loam, watch this video about media ruclips.net/video/SA7vBEZ6pOY/видео.html&pp=ygUSbWVkaWEgcG9uZCBwbGFudHMg
Could I please have the link for the floating ball? Thanks!

Have you ever used ludwigia for to basket covering
Yes I have a few times, I in fact planted a couple of planters with it after these floating islands.
@@ThePondAdvisor i was thinking of doing one of these in a 55 gallon patio pond in the middle as a floating island and have nothing under for more space.
100% perfect
Does it oxygenate the pond when it is in the floating planter?
No, the roots don't come into contact with the water, you could run an air line to them done that a few times to hold the air stone off the base
I think planting things in one row looks a bit artificial, but lots of interesting ideas I will definitely try. Are there any follow-up videos about these baskets? How are they doing?

In my experience, you don't need any fertilizer, not even for water lilies. We have them floating bare rooted, and they thrive :)
You must have a lot of fish waste or earth in your pond, I don’t know any water lilies that will survive without and substrate
most water plant are nutrient suckers , lol
Can you send me the link for the floating citrus cups
waterfeature.shop/search?q=floating+&options%5Bprefix%5D=last
What's the best way of anchoring these to the sides so they don't float away?
They have a draw string
Can you use pond soil media (cat litter) instead of regular soil?
The un scented (natural cat litter) clay yes
Hi Mark. Have you got a link for using pipe work for your floating Island?
We don’t very simple I do have pipework videos. Cable tie/zip ties or underlay as the planting pocket. ruclips.net/video/oEzkl9t7r7U/видео.html

Use a less loam based soil, mix it up with peat or coir fibre.
Can you display the names of the plants, for those who have hearing loss. 😂Nancy for Texas
how do you put soiled pots in constant water? thats the definition of overwatering and will cause root rot, no?
Not at all, aquatic plants love water, the whole floating island is not totally under water so you will be amazed what you can grow
The potted starts you are using are root bound. Try roughing up the outer surface to encourage the roots to spread faster.
thanks for your feedback
arent you also fertilizing the algae ?- I am frightened to fertilize my plants because I don't want to encourage algae growth

Are these used for marginal plants?
yep or bog plants, you can grow lots of garden plants in them as well
I'ma nurse and a mother how the heck am I'm gonna get this bugger on board. From missouri
Missery
On board? Not been to Missouri, I do know a few people closer to you that may be able to help you.
What kind of soil do you use on your floating island?
A mixture of different medias depending on what I am growing ruclips.net/video/SA7vBEZ6pOY/видео.html
aquatic soil is a good choice
Would the fertiliser harm the fish in a smaller pond of 1000 litres?
No, however not using the plant food in this way (with in a planting pocket or planter) it would effect the water quality
Do you sell plants?
Only if you buy a pond or come to Pc lol, no we don’t sell plants as a rule (online). We stopped it about 15 years ago. Never say never however
