HAVE FUN!
Dude this is awesome that you guys have his video because I have a 97 tahoe with a bunch of work to it and just decided the other week to swap out the intake and was having difficulty finding information on this swap so you guys and this channel is pretty much a godsend keep up the good work
his guy has some excellent skills. Planning, sourcing parts, putting it together and getting it to work. Impressive.
It looks great man! Did I hear you say you were going to upgrade engine internals? I’d like to upgrade my 5.7 in my 98 Silverado but I’m not trying to make a drag truck. I just want a little power increase and improve throttle response. It looks like you have quite a good amount of money invested on this thing.
Just amazing. Mine next please😅 thanks for the ideas and ways around all the expensive parts.
I finish rebuilding my 96 Tahoe 5.7 engine and I installed a .474 cam. I'm using the stock CPI but hooked up a 99 Tahoe computer so I could use HP Tuner. I can drive the truck but I'm still tuning it to run smooth.
Holley Sniper efi is alot easier on these l31s to upgrade fuel delivery, this is a great way as well just a little more complex. Anything is better then the stock spider injection 🤣 i don't understand how they make a great 5.7 with nice flowing heads and good solid bottom ends with low wearing cylinder bores then top it off with that shit ass spider injection 😂 what a way to to end production of the world's most popular engine lmao lucky for us there's ways around it now
"That car's squeaking like crazy," LOL!🤣
Thanks for this. I have a 98 Sierra and I'd like to squeeze some performance out without an LS swap or breaking my bank with Holley.
I'm in the process of rebuilding my 350 Vortec and had a few questions:
How does it run compared to stock?
1. MPG?
2. Throttle Response?
3. Power?
Sounds good my man! If my cab wasn’t so rotten from the NY salt I wanted to build my motor, high compression pistons, aluminum heads, fuel injection, big cam
this was good to see. I would like to chat with you on what you did. I been looking around trying to figure out what I want to do. I am OCD so it makes it harder for me to pull the trigger because if it does do what I want I get frustrated.
Great work man. Looks absolutely awesome
good shit bro. cant wait for the booooooost!
Would you please tell me what fuel pressure regulator you used would be a great help, Thanks for the awsome write up
Very well done, super informative!
What are your plans for ignition? have you looked into swapping to LS style coils? Keep up the good work.
Must everything be about LS this or that?
No it doesn't have to be. But its hard to beat the power and efficiency that the power plant provides. In this article hotrod tested the conversion on a lt1 power plant and picked up power all across the board.
www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/ccrp-1111-small-block-chevrolet-ls-conversion/
Rok_OEM What hot rod don't tell you is. An old school 5.7 can make just as much hp as a 6.0 with a cam. With a 115 LSA, it will idle just as smooth.
I am sure it can, I dont disagree at all. I am just saying that if your running a computer controlled efi engine for efficient fuel distribution why not take advantage of that computer and let it control your ignition and get the extra hp left on the table by the factory distributor. These 5.7 vortec engines have all the same capabilities as the ls engines.
Rok_OEM Having 8 coils is pretty but that's not why the 6.0 make more hp. It has a hotter cam.
Stupid question but do you wire the positive and negative wire on the injectors to the same wire on the pcm? Or do you ground them out separate?
on the spider injector connector if you open the top part exposing all 16 wires you will find that all injectors have at least one pink wire and one randomly colored wire. the pink wire is obviously the positive (always hot) and the randomly colored wires are the negatives. the PCM turns on and off the negative. you can cut the spider injector connector off and divide the 16 wires to your injectors. like i said before. one injector gets a positive (pink) and a negative(randomly colored wire). the color of the wire will determine which cylinder that injector goes to.
Enjoying your vids.........Do you prefer Vortec style motors over LS type for any specific reasons? Thanks
I like the Vortec style engines just because of its rarity in the performance world. If you're looking for a cheaper way to make power, go 5.3 LS with a turbo. If your looking for a torque monster and easy installation, go Vortec
+Turbros Garage I have one of each on the engine stands. after putting an oil pump on my 170k mile 5.3 in my truck this past weekend I started leaning toward turbo in the 5.7 vortec. that ls style oiling system scares me. I like what u are doing and I am really thinking about going that route. Gonna purchase an s-10 soon to put a turbo set up in. I have only had n/a motors before
Hahaha bruh great video! Clean setup !!
Maybe get rid of that stupid HAI (Hot Air Intake).
I always laugh when someone tells me they just put a new Cold Air Intake on their truck. I say, "You mean you installed a Hot Air Intake and reduced the power and efficiency of your engine." I like keeping the stock airbox and filter, and just getting rid of all the baffles and corrugated intake tube and replace with a smooth home made tube out of large diameter ABS from Home Depot for around $20 instead of $400.
So 1k got most of everything you have done in your engine bay(besides the engine itself ? Other expenses would've been turbos headers and the exhaust set up then correct?
will this still pass inspection? in like north Carolina and most other states? I am very interested in this swap
Emissions took the fun out of tinkering with your engines on the weekend. That being said there is no way engines would hold up back in the day as they do know because of efi. Take dodge for instance on there even basic charger and challenger engines all the way up through hell cats or demons that you could use as daily driver and race on the weekends and put 200 plus thousand miles on them with proper care. If I said that in the carb days you would have me evaluated. Everytime I drive my son's charger I think I'm going to break it but it's got a 178,000 miles on it and is just as powerful. Amazing! I am a Chevy guy myself and have been on the vortec warpath for sometime. Being a past auto machinist and trying to solve the cracking issue torque plating is the best thing for the vortec head. Emissions killed the daily driver but if you live where emissions is not a factor or your weekend toy and on a budget then carb conversion will save a ton of money and online research. Now there are no carb conversions that equal a efi response that can be done due to tranny controlled shifting on point fuel metering and timing control by the PCM it's just not going to happen . Unless your are a serious hard core willing to put in the research and study on efi with an open bank account you can still have some serious fun on the old carb setup relatively less costly. Just for fun I am in talks with a manufacturer on a dual quad manifold for the 5.7 vortec as I have a pair of 650's needing a home 🤔 interesting! I wana go mad max.
Are you using your original TPS and IAC connectors to let the Factory ECM control the TPS and IAC?
How much did yall spend on buildin the 5.7? It mightve been cheaper just to buy a ls and swap and build that up.
This would apply to the 4.3 basically also I'm guessing?
if you can find a multiport intake for the 4.3 then yes. tuning it will be hard unless you have HP tuners
I live in Los Angeles but always in louisiana. fam in opelousas and cane river. would like to hook up next time I am down.
LOL Paint your valve covers! Spit my pop out...
Hey brother thank you so much for this video I'm going to subscribe and check out some others cause I'm building a s10 with this same motor I was going ls but I got a 99 Vortec 350 from a Tahoe for free a buddy Gave it to me complete harness pcm everything so I'm going to give it a shot I want to know more on that AEM fuel and ignition controller though anyway I can contact you via email or social media
Nice wiring job. They make smaller hose clamps by the way.
The only thing you have to do is splice the harness to control the injectors correct. I don’t have to have the aem thing I can just have my runner tune it once and be done????
you wouldnt really have to hack the hell out of the harness. the connector that plugs into the spider injectors already has the 16 wires you need. one positive and one negative for each injector. if you have the spider injector upgrade thing you can just cut off the tubes and the injectors at the tips and just leave the wires. extend the wires and put fuel injector pigtails. i posted a video about it on my channel
Your hp numbers are way off....i know for a fact....with good components..$1800-2300.....763 hp@5500rpm/697 ft/lbs torque@ 5400 rpm....on vortec 5.7.
Where can i get that i need that
Wheres the AC compressor on it?
Hola buen día amigo tengo una pregunta quizás me.puedan ayudar tengo un 350 TBI puedo acoplarse el.sistema EFI
Are you using the stock ecu and modified wiring?
Great video, you sound hype as fuck. I just need to replace the spider on my sons 5.7 z71 we actually had plans to put a huge motor later. After the 10" and 44s.
Did you keep the stock distributor?
you have to use the stock distributor
Was there any power increase doing mpi vs the spider injection? My truck dynoed 235 @315 torque on spider injectors. How much power could I get swapping to larger injectors and a workable intake manifold with a tune?
I'd really like an answer to this question too. The spider injection seems real hokey and problematic. Mine as a bad miss under load, and not sure about spending $400 on parts replacing a poorly designed factory system that may not even correct my problem. (No check engine light or codes)
@@camarokurt The miss under load could cause be caused by multiple reasons. but not having the fuel injector assembly in the intake causing restrictions will be very beneficial. you can choose to use bigger throttle bodies and so on with this mod which in term will result in more power.
You in Florida bruh
Hey can you help me out? I have a 1998 Tahoe and I can’t afford a LS swap so what can I do to get a better performance out my vortex motor
I also have a 6” left on my truck with 24” rims with 35” tires so I need more power
What's the cost of everything
Anybody doing this conversion still using quick connect couplings on coolant lines got no business telling me nothing. Experience /no replacement 4 it.
will that injector wiring diagram wire the same if i used the pro flow intake?
Yep. Same injector placement👌🏻
+Turbros Garage Thanksfor the response
+brandon jones always 👌🏻
Pretty
How can I get a hold of you!! I wanna do this with my 96 Tahoe! I have many questions
Chris Jensen hit me up on Facebook, Jay Thomas.
Turbros Garage I typed you in the search bar, didn't find you
Chris Jensen Just find my Facebook page Turbros Garage and I'll message you on there
Turbros Garage
You must be super secret profile!! Lol
My Facebook profile is me holding the America flag
Chris Jensen Still couldn't find it, just email TurbrosGarage@gmail.com
what kind of distributor can I use a msd HEI ??
you have to use the stock distributor if your using the stock harness. the cam sensor is absolutely needed
Do u have a 5.7 TBI to vortex?
Ага efi
Do u have a wiring diagram? I wanna do the same setup on my 96 5.0L
That's too much I would just put an LS3 in there
I just picked up a obs with a vortec sbc... and i gotta say, the amount of extra bullshit you need to do to just be able start making power is dumb AF. I can literally buy a big block and a TH400 slap a carburetor on it and call it a day. And still be under what it costs to swap an EFI.
These vortec engines are hot garbage in my opinion.
Man for for all that you might as well just ls swap it
Ls3.....
Looks like an electrical nightmare waiting to happen. Sloppy..
