How to Run Node.js in VS Code From Scratch
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 ноя 2020
- As you're learning to program in JavaScript, you've probably used an editor in the browser that will run the code for you. However, the next step in your learning process is to learn how to run Node.js JavaScript locally on your machine. What better way to run your code than inside the most popular editor in Web Development, VS Code (code.visualstudio.com/).
In this video, we'll explore two different ways to run Node.js in VS Code. We'll run the node command in the terminal manually. Then, we'll look at the Quokka extension in VS Code to make the process even simpler.

I have no words to tell you how much I appreciate you ... I am a very beginner with this and they are teaching me bad programming and I did not understand why it gave me an error when I gave it run code. Thank you.
I’ve viewed several videos on how to do this - no need to look any further. Concise, accurate, to-the-point, thank you James.
Legit wasted two days looking for something like this to practice with! Thank you!
Nothing is a waste. Spend 5 hours to do 5 minutes of work, not a waste. You learned something that you wont have to go through again. Trust me. I have spent months doing things that take others a week.
2 days? TWO YEARS AND I COMMENT AT THE 1 MIN MARK I HOPE THIS IS IT
CANNOT UNRECOGNIZED AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH
Thank you this is just what i needed. Been looking on some tutorials and had a hard time understanding how they set it up.
Great video, I was having trouble with this though, as a few are. I downloaded the Node js extentsion pack and it all worked.

Thanks, You're a life saver man, I've been BATTLING with the latest version of NODE JS v18, it's a troubleshooting nightmare.
Thank you I was looking for this video for a long time ..
quokka thing is new to me. I would always create a new sample(some_number) file and run that and then switch between terminals...Nice to know about this.

Some extensions I found that may help with NodeJS:
node-readme, npm, JavaScript (ES6) snippets, node-snippets, DotENV, TabNine (useful for any language)
Love it!

Starting with Javascript and I run into an issue in VS code where nested array data was not being displayed. I had already installed Node js but I was using the debugger tab instead of the terminal.

I also saw on your fullstack-react-js course somewhere in the video where you vscode interface showed the date each line of the code was written as you scroll through the code, like a timestamp on each line of the code, sorry, how can do that.?
Thanks in anticipation.

James Quick back at it with the B A N G E R S
Ayyy!!!
I am coming from python and start learning JS. So for JS and VSCode, I think your tutorial is to setup Node/NPM globally, but for individual projects, should I create virtual environment similar to how I would with Python? If so, how can I do that?
Hi James, I'm facing the next error:
throw err;
^
Error: Cannot find module '/home/chrismpj/Desktop/the_odin_project/javascript/hello.js'

}
Do you have any ideas of what I should do? I've been looking for a while now but haven't been able to find a solution. Btw, I'm using Ubuntu.
can i do this with regular visual studio? why does everyone use VS code? i like how vs has the auto fill feature when typing
What are you using to animate your edit cursor
Does anyone know, which theme he is using? Thanks
good thing I didnt see you showing how to install node terminal on vscode.
okay but if everything is running fine and well on vs code where does the role of nodejs installation comes in cant quite get it...
well i installed node, I can open the app but node -v says its not recognized in vs. But when I do it in powershell it is recognized.
For some reason this does not work for me. Cannot get nodemon to work. Tried settings and all that.
What is the name of the font you use in VS Code in this video?
How can I get that green "node" in the terminal?
i've got a problem, where even when i already install vs code and node js in windows. i cant run these file in my terminal inside vs code. vs code said that cant found path for node js binary. hope u help me. thanks sir

Make sure you install it in OS(c).
Does anyone know what the theme he is using for VS Code is called?
How to tell VS Code for macos to look in my ~/.npm for require() statements?
what theme you use?
I ran node.js as instructed, but I ran into an error which states, Module Not Found. What should I do?
Did you find a solution?
Do you need both quokka and nodemon
i have node installed but i just keep on getting we couldnt find node.js on this computer and when i reload vs code it doesnt fix it
I typed in the exact same thing and keep getting the error - Can’t find Node.Js binary “node”: path does not exist. Make sure node.js is installed and in your path - This is my first time coding. How do I fix this error??
Error:cannot find module
Code:module_not_found
I swear mines say the same thing, i'm hoping someone saves us
I`m getting code: 'MODULE_NOT_FOUND', in the terminal all the time. Any clues what`s wrong?
hey, thanks for this video...quick doubt regarding " nodemon file.js " is not recognized in my terminal....plz suggest to me what to do!
Do you have nodemon installed? You can run "npm install -g nodemon"
@@JamesQQuick I think i haven't installed the nodemon file
There is error occurred ,module not found(throw error)
Same, how can I solve this?
Same bro
You have to get the current version not the recommended one.
But the nodemon (No Demon) thing refused to install.
internal/modules/cjs/loader.js:892 please helpp to fix this error
great video but i keep getting hit with
Error: Cannot find module '/Users/allanpatterson/helloworld.js'
at Function.Module._resolveFilename (node:internal/modules/cjs/loader:933:15)
at Function.Module._load (node:internal/modules/cjs/loader:778:27)

at node:internal/main/run_main_module:17:47 {
code: 'MODULE_NOT_FOUND',
requireStack: []
driving me insane and this is day two of trying to figure it outs
When i write node app.js nothing happens it just creates a new line and when I tried it with nodemon app.js it says " File C:\Users\Termitten\AppData\Roaming
pm
odemon.ps1 cannot be loaded because running scripts is disabled on this system."
Please someone help
same problem, tell us when u find
same thing happens to me
It could be because of PowerShell script execution being disabled. Try "Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted".
@@anurodhacharya8691 same to me! I can't find a answer
@@lucasrodriguescavaleiro8422 hmm I haven't seen this before. Do you have nodemon installed?
Hi, can anyone help me with a "problem"? It seems to me that I can only properly run the command once I go to "file, save" on VScode. Is that true? It was the only solution for me to see the Hello World, after following those steps of node."filename".js at terminal. Otherwise, it would just not run at all...
You’ll have to save your file for it to run with the most recent changes.
