Thank you, thank you, thank you for mentioning essentials classic. I have Illustrator 2022 and all the panels and tool bar have been super frustrating. That little mention helped so much.
Just had the rep who setup my Epson 40600 over for a second time and even they aren’t as helpful as this video was. This will answer all my questions regarding illustrator cutlines. Thanks for taking the time and if you’re ever in the Cave Creek AZ area lookup my store I’ll get ya setup with tee shirts!
OMG! Thank you so much! 2 years later and your video saved me hours of agony! I have watched so many videos on YT, scoured so many online articles. I had bits and piece of the process but nothing like this in its entirety from beginning to end and so well explained! I am starting my own online sticker shop and was having trouble with creating cut lines and offsets. My offsets were transparent and I couldn't figure out for the life of me how to get a white outline without going into Procreate or some other process with Design Space/Design Studio, etc. Using 'merge' was never mentioned in the content I reviewed, either! That was genius! Anyway, I wanted to keep my flow entirely on Adobe lllustrator. This was perfect! AND, as an added bonus, I searched up the IDPRT you mentioned and got it today on Amazon! It was $129 but they had it on sale for $89 and put a $20.00 coupon as well. I bought it for $69.00 and got 500 sheets of labels for $6.00. I just need to finish my products, print out a bunch and open my shop! Thanks again and have a great day! PS: Love your shop, too! 🙂
Thank you for this video! You explained it so well. You walked us through the steps multiple times and it was simply awesome. Because of this video, I was able to finally print and cut on my new printer (Roland BN-20).
This has been the best explanation of how to make the die cuts in illustrator and versaworks by far. I have got the hang of doing it but there was a few things you mentioned that helped with some designs. Thanks keep up the great work
This helped me so much!!! I am using what I learned here to create PNG images I want on my Etsy shop listings to show where my offset is for my stickers!! This will take my pictures to the next level! THANK YOU!! 🙏🏻😁
Absolutely! Have you joined our discord server, there currently is about 150 print people who do this for a living every day. Everyone is helping every with different things :) if you to my latest video it’s the second or 3rd link in the description:)
Thank you for this tutorial. The second example was super helpful. I usually just remove the background in photoshop, save as png, and then go from there in AI. Your steps were clear and gave me the practice I needed! Thanks alot my friend!!!
Followed all your steps and you definitely helped me, appreciate it i've got the trim line added to images I've been struggling with for many nights. Any tips on how/what to save the file as, or any other steps to save them open files in VersaWorks to have the cut line show up to print/cut on a vg3. Appreciate any help, very new at this. Cheers.
Thanks, very easy to understand process. I just wanted to ask what file types you would recommend saving out as? Im sending artwork for bicycle decals which im assuming is similar tot the sticker printer etc. Is an Ai file ok or should i be saving as: SVG/EPS/PDF? Any advice would be much appreciated.
Great video! Thank you for the info. I do have a question. If I'm printing my stickers on white paper, what's the point of the white layer around the image? Ideally wouldn't I only need the single cut line?
Great explanation thanks! I follow the steps perfectly and save as PDF but when i open in Versaworks it doesn’t recognise the CutContour? If i do the same with a jpeg or without the design at all and just the cut line it finds the special feature straight away?
is a kiss cut line a matter of adding a third outline? very cool that you shared this technique. I am trying this and was way over thinking the way it had to be completed...thanks again for sharing! You guys are awesome!
Just found this video and it has been very helpful. Is this the same process for an ai or svg image or should I export image to png and follow your instructions?
This was so helpful for stickers!! Would I be able to use these steps when converting pgn or jpg files for heat transfers? This process keeps the image perfect. When I try to convert and add Contour Cut lines and bleed for heat transfer, the image always needs lots of editing done.
Thank you for your time in this great tutorial but I am having a problem cutting my transfer paper on Graphtec 6000-60. How do you do your setting for cutting?
Hai, thank you for the great video. But I wanna ask somerthing, can this tutorial use for kiss cut sticker? Or there's the different on it? Thank you, sorry for my bad english
Is there a way to edit or smooth out the cut lines in AI or round out tight corners? This way the blade doesn't move so jagged due to the cut line shape and wouldn't come to a hard point in an inside corner that can cause tear out. I mainly use flexi to build my cut lines and they have several Arc and line smoothing tools that make this process pain less. I don't use AI much so not sure if they have similar tools to aid in this process. Always a pleasure to watch your videos
Yes it’s called smoothing tool, you need to stage it in your toolbar first then select the line and use it:) there is also macros that work even better.
Great ill look into that. Do you know if there are any label printer specific Facebook groups? I'm in plenty wide format groups but can't seem to find groups based on the smaller desk top versions or groups that may also list this kind of equipment for sale?
Hi, what are your image settings in Adobe Illustrator? When I drag and drop a png file onto the artboard, it becomes faded and looks washed out in comparison to what it should.
Please, I follow your instructions the same steps why I get from the print company this notification: The special color for the contour was not created in the CMYK color mode i do the same steps can you help me?
please, how can I check the cutline, because I make the same instruction and sent it to a printing company I see on my pc is good, but in the test file from a printing company is not good is there any way to check the cut line file?
Sorry for the way late reply, duplicate the design and invert the colors on one of them so the text is now black. Then you will have a black design and text :)
I’m sure I know why ;) check that it’s a single point stroke not a line or fill or check there is not a 2 pass mode turned on :) please let me know it’ll this fixed your issue. You can send me the file as well and I can take a look
I'm working with a png photo and since it isnt a vector, it doesn't cover all the silhouette, it leaves white spaces that doesn't give me the option to unite or anything. What should I do?
Is there a way to fill bleeds for pixel graphics for Die cut like in ruclips.net/video/x5lkRyjX00I/видео.html in Photoshop or Illustrator, with a plug-in probably? The gaussian blur does not suit well.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for mentioning essentials classic. I have Illustrator 2022 and all the panels and tool bar have been super frustrating. That little mention helped so much.
College assignment of making stickers in illustrator brought me here. Thank you so much!

omgness this is the most thorough tutorial i;ve come across. Please do more for illustrator!
Followed this for a few minutes and was making cutlines in the background within minutes. Thank you!
Glad I can help

Hey! I see the 50 cal coffee sticker on the fridge, love it 😍
Finally, I found an easy way video how to do it. Thank you for your time.

I’ve bee using the shape builder tool all this time, but your way is so much simpler and faster. Thanks for the video!
Thanks a lot. Finally found someone who knows what to do exactly 💯
Thank you for this tutorial. The second example was super helpful. I usually just remove the background in photoshop, save as png, and then go from there in AI. Your steps were clear and gave me the practice I needed! Thanks alot my friend!!!
Thank you for demonstrating this process with us.
WOW, even after 2 years your video helped me. Thank you so much for your time making this video. ❤️ from London UK
Glad it helped!
I’ve been sooo lost with this, THANK YOU!!!
Best Video Ever❤
Thank you! Very informative video. I look forward to more. I would be interested in how you go from this to printing it on the Roland
We will add it to our list.
Followed your steps, it works! Thank you so much 😄👍
Glad I could help!

We save as pdf
This video is excellent. You explained everything ! Very helpful!
Thank you and glad it was helpful
Thank you. Great step by step tutorial.
Really good job. Thanks mate
Exactly what I needed. Thanks! 💪🏾
great video! My arts and comm teacher uses this video as a tutorial in his class lol
Glad I can help.
Brilliant - this was very very helpful! Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much this was very helpful! But once I do all this, how do I save the file so I can send it to a printing company?
Can I save each layer as pdf and send them separately?
Control +s and save it as a pdf
Best video, thank you! Great instructions and clear explanation.
Great video! Thank you for the info. I do have a question. If I'm printing my stickers on white paper, what's the point of the white layer around the image? Ideally wouldn't I only need the single cut line?
Yes but this allows us to show the customer the design more clearly and professionally.
Excellent
Thank you! Cheers!
Great video!! Had issues trying to get the bleed part done. But not anymore. Thanks so much
Great explanation thanks! I follow the steps perfectly and save as PDF but when i open in Versaworks it doesn’t recognise the CutContour? If i do the same with a jpeg or without the design at all and just the cut line it finds the special feature straight away?
Unfortunately we don’t use versa works for cut lines so I’m not sure on this topic. I know it can but not sure the exact process.
Great Job
Thank you!! This is so much easier than how I have been doing it. You are the BEST!! :)
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much❤.but i would like to know how to save print ready files.
Best way most use is PDF in CMYK is best.
very very helpful and nicely explained, thanks for the video!
is a kiss cut line a matter of adding a third outline? very cool that you shared this technique. I am trying this and was way over thinking the way it had to be completed...thanks again for sharing! You guys are awesome!
Yep just offset the line and put it on a layer called kiss cut :) we usually make it color blue
Thank you! Just one question. Why do you make your document 45 inches by 45 inches?
That was just what we hade our last sticker size to
Just found this video and it has been very helpful. Is this the same process for an ai or svg image or should I export image to png and follow your instructions?
Can you show how to do the script for the Graphtec. I want to learn more please thanks you.
You can get it from graphtech webpage :)
This was so helpful for stickers!! Would I be able to use these steps when converting pgn or jpg files for heat transfers? This process keeps the image perfect. When I try to convert and add Contour Cut lines and bleed for heat transfer, the image always needs lots of editing done.
Yes if you get a png it’s the best.
Thank you for your time in this great tutorial but I am having a problem cutting my transfer paper on Graphtec 6000-60. How do you do your setting for cutting?
Not sure for transfer paper but for vinyl it’s speed 70 force 30
Hai, thank you for the great video. But I wanna ask somerthing, can this tutorial use for kiss cut sticker? Or there's the different on it? Thank you, sorry for my bad english
Yes just change the line color and make the settings on the blade for kiss cut
how can I make the stickers pop out to individual stickers instead of staying on the sheer
When I click on stroke I do not see red to pick?
Thank you for this video. I learned alot from it :)
Great video, thanks however most of the functions on my Illustrator don't work as your does. driving me crazy.
Put the design mode in essincals classic mode at the top right
thank you for this video, i love u
Don't you reduce the nodes in the cut line to speed up the cut time? I do that very easely in Corel Draw.
yes if there is a lot of them but this amount the cutter still flys.
Hi
please where is your video about removing the background from the image in photoshop?
I don't see it on your channel !!
I will have to look honestly I’m so bad at captioning my videos I just kind of shoot as I go along

Once I expand, merge, and unite there is still a small gap/space. How do I fill the small space?
Thank you 😊
You're welcome 😊
Hi, what are your image settings in Adobe Illustrator? When I drag and drop a png file onto the artboard, it becomes faded and looks washed out in comparison to what it should.
I match the settings to the embedded artwork
Please, I follow your instructions the same steps why I get from the print company this notification: The special color for the contour was not created in the CMYK color mode
i do the same steps
can you help me?
They probably ment your color profile under file and color mode settings
@@printshoptalk i have set color mode to cmyk under file
Thank you ‼️
Your welcome!
please, how can I check the cutline, because I make the same instruction and sent it to a printing company
I see on my pc is good, but in the test file from a printing company is not good
is there any way to check the cut line file?
Put it on it’s own layer
@@printshoptalk Thanks
Brother can you do a video how pack lots of stickers to cut vinyl
Ok see if I can shoot a video on it next week.
What paper do you use for stickers
we use Vinyl between 4-5mil and a lam that is 4-5mil thick. We also use the thicker poly liner to not only add strength but heat resistance.
How can I do it with white Type when I image trace it gets everything expect the White Type and so it doesn’t die cut it all the way
Sorry for the way late reply, duplicate the design and invert the colors on one of them so the text is now black. Then you will have a black design and text :)
Hi! How can I get a cut line without the white outline?
You will need to cut into your image or bleed the colors past the cut line.
Can you help make a few cuts , I'm super new to this I have Roland vg540
I don’t know how to cut on the vg2 I use a graphtec.
Isn't that a Roland in the far back with the blue ?
So could you possibly make my images or some . $$$
Yes it is but I have never used the cutter function I use a graphtec cutter. We only use the printer to print.
What scale are you using?
Inches
@@printshoptalk thank you
How do you multiply lol I know option and drag on my Mac but then on your screen more kept popping with the mouse moving
Nvm found it. Command D thank you for the video
Sorry to get to this late
Try shift control d to set the distance
I don't know why but I always have issues with my Graphtec cutting twice. It's a single stroke diecut line
I’m sure I know why ;) check that it’s a single point stroke not a line or fill or check there is not a 2 pass mode turned on :) please let me know it’ll this fixed your issue. You can send me the file as well and I can take a look
I have the same problem with graphtec, I don't know where to fix the problem?
@@printshoptalk for some strange reason when I save as EPS it cuts twice but when I save as PDF it cuts single. Weird.
I use ONYX RIP cut software.
We solved the problem. I've hidden the layer that contains the printed part of the design.
I'm working with a png photo and since it isnt a vector, it doesn't cover all the silhouette, it leaves white spaces that doesn't give me the option to unite or anything. What should I do?
You can image trace then silhouette it, and then offset the line
@@printshoptalk Ok thanks!
do you have an instagram where we can follow your work or even ask a quick question?
@sierracustomstickers
Is there a way to fill bleeds for pixel graphics for Die cut like in ruclips.net/video/x5lkRyjX00I/видео.html in Photoshop or Illustrator, with a plug-in probably? The gaussian blur does not suit well.
You will need to work in photoshop but not sure of the process.
Osam
Don't you have to name the die cut line "CutContour"
Not for graphtech and the plug-in for CM4
