The Reverend W Awdry was definitely a great author with great story sequences. Duck and his trucks were definitely an intense railway chase. The Duck and the Diesel Trilogy had other elements which was immense. But the chase was the most.
Oh wow! I went to university in Hull and lived therr for several years, often using Paragon Station and never once knew it was the inspiration of one of my favourite stories.
I have to agree with you that the trucks chasing Duck is a nail-biting experience, but I find the part where Duck narrowly avoids crashing at the back of the passenger train a bit more stressful, but it was thankfully avoided
To be fair, that line wasn't intended to be used for runaways. On your average day, it was probably just a siding. I also read a theory that the barber shop was a disused tool shed that had been purchased from the railway and converted into its new role.
This is what made the franchise a masterpiece: impeccable realism in works of fiction. Just hoping for the franchise to return to its glory days with the advent of the upcoming live action movie (which may or may not be released). BTW, I just so happen to be the 460th like, the same number as a PRR locomotive.
I’ve got requests if there were any real events for these RWS stories: * Saved from scrap * Old faithful * The Percy the small engine stories ex Percy’s promise * Gordon goes foreign * Sir Topham Hatt’s engines * Pop goes the diesel * Dirty work * Trucks * Note: for Home at last and Rock n roll, did Duncan’s basic’s actually ever derail and/or scrape through a bridge? * Hullo twins * The missing coach * The Branch line engines stories (ex Percy’s Predicament) * Special funnel * Passengers and polish * Bluebells of England * The Very old engines stories * The diseasel * Ballast * Useful railway * The Enterprising engines stories (ex Super rescue) * Donald’s Duck * Toad stands by * You can’t win * Ghost train * Woolly bear * Mavis
4:10 - 4:18 I actually agreed with you one the fact that the station terminus setting would make A Close Shave more interesting if Wilbert wanted to have it all accurate to the real incident, maybe that could be made in a remake
I don't see how the buffers hadn't stopped the tank engine from crashing into that barber shop at the station. After all I do recall, "That's What Buffers Are For. To Stop Engines From Crashing".
Very insightful, but at 3:42 it's pronounced "Trans pen-nine" just thought I'd clear that up, but I'm glad you used the correct pronunciation of "shire' 😉😅
I'm surprised the current location doesn't have a clipping and/or the illustration of the event as a selling point. Something like a placque stating "A true event that inspired the story "A Close Shave" by the Rev. W Awdry, author of the Railway Series and creator of Thomas the Tank Engine".
I’ve got requests for videos about some RWS stories’ real events along with for Thomas season 5’s episodes real events: Edward’s day out, Edward Gordon and Henry, Thomas and the trucks, James and the express, troublesome trucks, Thomas Terrance and the snow, Thomas and Bertie, trouble in the shed, coal, Gordon’s whistle, and the Toby the tram engine stories as well as Thomas’s Christmas party.
This just shows how much of a legend the Rev. Wilbert Awdry was.
❤️❤️♥️♥️
I miss him
3:25 Two of the people interviewed were named Percy and Gordon. Partial character name inspiration, perhaps?
legends never die
Agreed 👍

Someone should have told that engine “Engines don’t go for haircuts!” 😄
LOL! Very good one!
this is the most npc like interaction i've ever seen@@callum110597

It's good to see Percy and Gordon give their accounts of the event.
Yup
I like how pretty much all of the good reverend's stories are based in truth
Everyone is saying, "Why have a barber shop at the end of a line?" This explains why. And wow, what a story! 😲
To be fair, that line wasn't intended to be used for runaways. On your average day, it was probably just a siding. I also read a theory that the barber shop was a disused tool shed that had been purchased from the railway and converted into its new role.
On of my favourite episodes.

I use to watch the second video of Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends Series 2.
Screen Legends.
On the vhs was the episode of A Close Shave.
love the fact this story base in my home city off hull also sadly the barshop was torndown back in 2017 and now is a horrible waiting room sadly now 😥

When I saw the episode duck crashing into the barber it reminded me of the shining reference
Who agrees

"Don't worry, it's only an engine."
Lol Percy, Harold and Gordon were at the incident.
So apparently duck wasn't the original engine who crashed into the barbershop.
Authur was
Nope, it was Belle.
@@greenturtlgaming2554 Nope. Belle's a BR Standard Class 4mt Tank, not an LMS 4p.
A Close Shave for Arthur

Plowing through the platform was similar to a better view for Gordon
Same thing with the movie "Hugo" as both are based on a real life disaster in Paris around 1895.
Nice
Could you do the real story of Pop Goes the Diesel or Percy, James and the Fruitful Day, please?
I don't think there is a real-life version of 'Fruitful Day' because it wasn't written by Wilbert Awdry.
@@gregkiteos1936 Okay
@@gregkiteos1936who made it then?
@bernarda1247 Britt Allcroft and David Mitton, adapted from an Andrew Brenner magazine story.
If this book was published in 1958, that’s when my birth dad was born.
It would’ve been more exciting if there were 20 trucks on TV, too
good news no deaths
