Set in a Puritan colony in the 1640’s, a nineteen-year-old Hester Prynne, whose older husband has been missing for three years, has an adulterous affair with the Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale. When Hester Prynne is discovered pregnant, she chooses not to reveal the father but rather bears the punishment herself. Yet, when her husband, Roger Chillingworth, returns from the wilderness to see her standing in shame before the town, he is determined to discover who the father is and psychologically torment him. Only by finding forgiveness from God can Arthur and Hester overcome the retribution and oppression that their sin and their society have cast upon them.
Directed by Elizabeth Berry. Produced by Stephen Berry.
Starring Molly Wilson, Kevin Wegner, John Risner, Michael Adragna, Olivia Jammer, and Mark Rios.
Soundtrack composed by Josué DeJesús.
The fact that everyone in this trailer is wearing trendy floppy hats is really throwing me off
I haven't seen the whole film, but 90% of the dialogue here is not found in the novel. And there is NO reason to re-write Nathaniel Hawthorne, other than maybe to change a "thee" to a "you."
I agree that pretty much all the sections between Hester and Arthur Dimmesdale (which make up maybe half of the trailer) are not in the book and Hester's comment about being just a 16yr old girl is also nowhere to be found, but the trailer did include some direct quotes, memorably "This child must take a heavenly father, she will never know an earthly one." and the exchange between Hester and Roger Chillingworth ("the man lives who has wronged us both etc")
Yeah they basically rewrote Hawthorne's book for a movie. Seriously the other films for "The Scarlet Letter" is better because they actually go by the book! I think it's an outrage that they decided to say death is the penalty.
It does look like a high school production
I’m pretty sure you aren’t supposed to get bored half way through a movie trailer
hahhhah agreed
So true!!
why can't this movie be released BEFORE I have my test on it?
+benbug11 IKR. My English class is reading it now and I'd love to see the movie as well.
yep same hope here :)
Buy a copy of the 1979 version. Absolutely wonderful, available on DVD.
@@lunad27 watch the 1934 version. Its free here on RUclips.
benbug11 can i get to you link of this movie
After spending the last six months studying this book in college, I can't wait to see this film adaption. The world needs it. The characters are well cast, and the script well delivered! Just watching the trailer gave me shivers. Will definitely be waiting for the full release!
wow eric, thats a REEL nice fact you got there . ;)
I studied this at University years ago, and I remembered it suddenly and come to see the film!
Good grief the book isn’t that long. LOL
Plus the 1995 movie Adaption w/ Gary Oldman & Demi Moore is an excellent film.
This one looks like a cheap high school production.
those brows tho... gotta look good in the eyes of the lord
Name one thing a teenage girl cannot get made fun of for
Hey, Jesus loves you and died for you!!
@@KaliN521 hey, Jesus Christ loves you and died for you!!
There are now three movies of The Scarlet Letter.
Congrats.
ignarius actually there are a lot more. check out Wikipedia's website and it'll give you more info.
My phone is on do not disturb. Do not contact ME.
Whenever I listen to her saying those lines, I can't feel the real passion of an actress, it just seems that she is reading the script as she is trying to imitate a bad english accent, love the book but this girl doesn't make me want to watch the movie... :( okay, it looks like a high school production...
An animated movie or series would be miles better than any live action film that’s been made for this book.
I’m dead lol her eyebrows and heavy mascara
Very faithful to Hawthorne's text, at any rate - as is my opera on the subject!
I think you can get those same hats at Rue 21 *questions how legit movie is*
This looks even worse than the 1995 version with Demi Moore. At least Gary Oldman was in that one and made it somewhat watchable.
yes but you can't show that one in a 10th grade class.
1979 WGBH 4 hour production, John Heard, Meg Foster, Kevin Conway is by far the best. Faultlessly faithful to the book and all the principals perfect.
Excuse me, but this is not about the original Scarlet Letter history, is about a something which have no critical sense. Read the book and you will understand what I talking about.

+Risen Light Films is it accurate to the book
We have attempted to keep it accurate both historically and in relation to Hawthorne's novel. Much of the dialogue comes straight from the book.
it strays a lot in that her husband is supposed to be MUCH older than her, which is quite important to the book. We had a lecture on the arranged marriage and his age in my college English lit class, so this is pretty off.
There is a significant age gap between Roger and Hester in the film. We cast actors whose ages matched with when Hester was caught, so when the story jumps forward seven years they naturally look younger than the story describes.
The "never know" scene takes place when Pearl is three months old, not at the end of the book, 7 years later. You got it wrong. The book also does not deal with Hester's being "caught."
Just finished reading the book in my english class can't wait to see the movie
Wow, I'm actually really excited for this.
Especially if it's going to be an accurate adaptation from the book . . .
I have high hopes for this film.
"My child must seek our Heavenly Father, she shall never know an earthly one"
anyone know where you can order the 1926 silent version? It's one of my favorites, next to the 1934 version.
This does not seem very historically accurate or even faithful to the book...
This looks ten million times better than the last movie. I will eagerly await for it to grace the local theaters.:)
Received my DVD from the USA yesterday - thank you Risen Light Films !!
I Love Taylor Swift who'd you order it through?
Looks like you guys got it right!! Unlike the Roland Joffe adaptation. Looking foward to this!!
Anyone who knows that which movie is parallel with its book , 1995 or 2015 ?

@@khoulodrezki1741 I found it on vimeo! It's super cheap to rent.
I ordered this on DVD just now ;-)
why is the music so godamn loud
I loved the book! Hope this is just as good! Trailer looks awesome.
Thanks. It is a wonderful book. We tried to stay true to the story, which was a great challenge with such extensive dialogue.
Awesome! Yeah Hawthorn definitely does MOT adhere to the minute-per-page rule!
so what I'm getting from the comments is that this movie won't help me write my Essay for English class. Because let's be honest, is there anyone here because they thought this book needed a movie because it was that good?
The PBS (WGBH Boston video) with Meg Foster and John Heard is so much better than either this one or the Demi Moore. It is faithful to the text--but the film is LONG (4 hours), and the film makers are serious about Hawthorne's motifs of light and dark, so if your room is not completely dark, it can be hard to watch. Also--thee producers and directors spent a lot of time researching for film so that this "feels" like a colonial Boston with individuals who wear the same clothes for months at a time.
Thank you- I will look for that.
Thank you for the description
Wow. Excited for this film!
Can't wait to see this!
The actress playing Hester looks a lot like Natalie Dromer! She's so beautiful!
Nice eyebrows. An example of very professional waxing and shaping there.
OMG! finally my dream will come true. Wait for release, btw who is her child?
Araya Ajchariyapagorn ...Pearl
her eyebrows though....really?
do you expect perfect eyebrows? especially with a film about something centuries ago?
I wanna watch this movie, for being the most recent. Where do I get?

Is not free pay for you can buy it 💰. one thing charity don't give free movies in the church only free food buy it like us
It´s a high school final play?
Hmm... I just finished the book last night and already I see that they cast a young man as Hester's husband, which is wrong. He was very old and deformed, which in the book, explains part of the reason for her affair. He also was never violent with her; he was an intelIect. I guess that's the director's way of showing his evilness for today's sensibilities. I am an avid reader and have seen very few movies that are truly faithful to the book it is based on. Directors tend to take too much artistic license in regards to literature.
Will this movie be released ever ?
Hi! The Scarlet Letter is available to purchase here: vimeo.com/ondemand/scarletletter
Where is the beautiful scarlet letter?
this looks awesome!
I'm very surprised of the fact that US directors are unable to render the content and form of the book. The classic by Hawthorne written middle of XIXth c. is often assessed to be tied to gothic novel and spirit. The movie should be shot in monochrome with special effects of colors : range of reds, green, gold, with very deep black background. The issue is persecution and stigma, loneliness and isolation. I think the style should have seen the one used by the Czech Otakar Vavra in the movie of 1969 about witch hunt called "Witchhammer". Failure of US cinema in this case is an enigma for me. It's not a love story, it's about excess of religious and ideological dogmatism and puritanism and the treatment of damnation, a typical trend at the roots of American worldview.

Risen Light Films oh thank you so much fo reply THANKXXX
This does not follow the book. Left out a lot of details. We choose to watch this over the Demi Moore version but now I'm thinking that might of been better.
i prefer reading the book...
Really dramatic but I feel like the acting can be much better
the 1995 version is better
Ew. 1979 version is wonderful
Why do the always stuff up a remaking of a perfectly good movie.
I thought this was fan made lol hahaha
Anyone come from the QR code

Looks OK...
Seems not earnest enough...
I just read the book and I don't feel inclined to watch the film post this trailer..
So Hester cheated on her husband with the father of the church, and had a kid... Is that what this melodrama is about -_- ?
Flat_foot, yeah that's what the story is basically.
I’m not here of my own volition
Thats my teacher :D
Ummm, fer real? You offer this up against Hardie Albright and Gary Oldman??
But why is it in a British accent...
puritans came from England
From the few scenes in the trailer showing Rev. Dimmesdale - he looks to be very miscast. Not at all attractive and Dimmesdale was blonde. Gary Oldman was very good in the role.
Is this legit?
wat

@@calebnunsant3719 dirty ahh funky ahh lil fade ahh😂
When I saw "Roger Chillingworth" looking normal and young I knew this was just a trailer project for some film student or hobbyist. Pity. This Hester is more in line with who I thought of than Demi Moore (no hate).
Hey! The actor who played Chillingworth is not only an amazing actor, but he’s also my uncle! Heck, he was asked to be an extra in Captain America: The Winter Soldier for crying out loud!
mojo brought me here
The actors just sound awkward using 17th century English...
People asking for where can they get free movies sorry pay for charity don't give free movies only free food, you like it pay for it fantacy life not free food free woman free wailfaire free housing free movies not free in the church in wailfaire office
